Bubba is a fine catcher, but hopefully someone else can catch and Bubba can DH for a while if rest is needed.

Cuyahoga Falls

Man, what has happened to Cuyahoga Falls baseball, and their sports programs in general? Doesn't seem that long ago when the Black Tigers were a baseball power. Maybe I'm showing my age, but seems like the program has drastically fallen on hard times recently. If any team from the SLN should be moved out, its them. I seriously doubt they could even compete in the SLA's smaller division.

Not real sure as it's early but it looks to be a good looking team. Ellet should win the Akron City Series and really wasn't a threat during the game. I believe they had two hits and Tallmadge subbed in the 5th inning to get almost everyone an at-bat.

Lake also looks to be decent. They were 13-11 last year from the tough Federal League and knocked off Hoover in the playoffs. They have at least a few starters back this season. Obviously a much closer game that could have gone either way.

I remember that as well, but give this new coaching staff time. I think Falls has been picked by Walsh and/or Woodridge of some of their local talent. Change won't happen over night, but I talked to a dad whose son is a freshman there, and he said several kids chose CF instead of Woodridge this class. He also said the game vs Revere was good until the 7th. Said the kids just haven't learned how to finish games.

I think most of their staff is from Hoban's old staff, that wasn't asked back by their new coach. If that's true, the Falls will learn how to stay with teams pretty quickly. The old Hoban staff was an excellent group.

So that means Kent Roosevelt has allowed about 45 runs in their first two losses, to Woodridge and Aurora? Sounds like a very long season for the Rough Riders.

Copley beat Barberton 5-0 on 3/30.....rained out the remainder of the week. Hayes was dominant as usual. Struck out 13, gave up 1 hit and walked 1 in 6 innings. Copley scored all 5 runs in 1 inning. Left a lot of runners on base (as they did in scrimmages). Something that will need to improve before they play Tallmadge and Aurora.

Definitely the weakest team Tallmadge played in Myrtle Beach. Most of us saw it in warmups and knew that it would be a run-rule game. Unfortunately when teams are paired up without any prior knowledge about their skill, games like that will happen.

With that said, Tallmadge could have beaten anyone down there. They finished 3-1 and the only loss was against a solid Peters Township team out of PA. It was the last game and the team played without much spark. Still alot of season to be played but I expect the Blue Devils to be competing for the league title in the Suburban League and being very competitive in the DII playoffs.

As Yappi said, most of these games in Myrtle are random draws, teams with varying levels of talent, and usually just a great way to get in some good baseball down south while the balance of the teams in N.E. Ohio sit and watch the rain fall. I really don't think the results should be used as any type of measuring stick simply due to the competitive skill levels of every team participating.

Hearing that the Tallmadge/ Kent game might be moved to Monday to avoid potential bad weather on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Some of these coaches seem so inflexible regarding their schedules. All you have to do is check the weekly weather forecast, and plan accordingly. Going on a week without a game, plus nothing scheduled tonight. Rain pretty much balance of the week, plus snow on Friday! Had opportunity to play Sunday, but coach didn't want to overwork his pitchers, huh? Kids are going to rust out before they wear out. Always thought league games to be made up were a priority. Doesnt seem to be much of a priority for some, wasting the few nice days we do get this time of year. Very frustrating.

Sunday games are a little tricky. Just depends on the school system and the parents whether you can get away with it, especially when it's an unscheduled game.

Should be playing today though at least. The rest of the week does not look good for baseball. I agree...March and April, look at forecast for the week and move league games if possible to get them in.

Apparently it takes two to tango. I know that some schools are very good at adjusting their schedules quickly. Maybe some other schools have logistical issues that make it hard to make those adjustments.

Agreed, all good points. But the excuse that you didn't want to overwork your pitchers, because of potential makeups throughout the week is pretty lame. Heck, let a kid throw an inning a piece similar to the scrimmage routine. An opponent and field was already secured, but coach elected not to play.

Doesn't look like there were any Suburban League American games. Kind of disappointing. Hoping the weather doesn't get as bad as some expect this weekend.

Kent Roosevelt 4, Tallmadge 3

A little surprised by this one. Tallmadge outhit Kent 6-5. Kent just made all the plays at the right time. A half swing Texas Leaguer that was a foot fair down the right field line scored two runs for Kent.

I talked to one of the parents about the Aurora/Kent game (21-0). Basically, alot of errors and a tight strike zone led to a big outburst by Aurora. Kent didn't make those same errors tonight. It will be interesting to see how tomorrow's game plays out.

Yappi, seems like this game must have been a big let down, considering the positive results Tallmadge experienced in Myrtle, and the lofty expectations the team has created as a result of the trip. Additionally, Kent Roosevelt has been to put it mildly, hammered in consecutive losses to Woodridge and Aurora, being outscored by 40 plus runs. Hard to explain away a 21-0 loss to Aurora due to a to a tight strike zone and a few fortunate seeing eye hits. I can only assume Kent threw their left hander, Gray, today. Kid is a crafty thrower, who has won alot of summer travel tournament games for the Longhorns. Can't explain the two big Kent loses other than what they appear, simply being outclassed and over powered. Hope for a different result for the Blue Devils tomorrow.

It's also possible that Woodridge and Aurora are better than the teams Tallmadge played down South.

Gray is supposed to pitch today. They threw James Rubish, he's their ace. He pitched in the 11-1 loss against Aurora. Apparently that game was close while he pitched.

I just chalk up the game to Kent playing really well and Tallmadge just struggling a little too much. Kent pitchers threw strikes and their defense made every play. Even when they booted the ball, it still went right to them for an out. Tallmadge also had three baserunning outs that really hurt them. At least one would have been a run.

Today's game should be very interesting.
