Jackson Twilight

Does anyone have any insight into why the Jackson Twilight meet was called after the 400 last night?

The weather was cold, but it wasn't threatening - it was actually even the case that the rain had finally stopped when they announced that the rest of the races wouldn't be run. The meet was running slowly - but it was only 9:30ish when the word started to spread that they were calling it. Other meets in the area and state seem to have run the full program.

There must have been a very good reason that kids who waited hours in the rain & cold for their chance to compete were sent home instead... Does anyone know what it was?

An official indicated they were having trouble with the timing system and the weather.

We won't be back next year. It should be called the Jackson "Midnight Meet."

The meet always seems to be plagued by bad weather. If it's not cold, it's windy, and if it's neither of those, it's wet, and half the time, that wetness is accompanied by a storm delay.

Also, I think they have too many teams for a Friday night meet. Even if that meet is run efficiently, it's not going to end before 11pm if there are 20 teams or more.

Our 20-team county meet is run quite well, and it still lasts about 7 to 8 hours from the beginning of the field events to the end of the 4x4 just due to to the sheer number of kids who are competing. That includes scratch lines for the throws (1st legal throw gets measured regardless), separate HJ and LJ pits for each gender, and the fact that 1/3 of the teams in our county don't pole vault.
