Cogan Invitational - Carrollton Fri April 28

If you are looking for a track meet to come and watch some elite athletes Friday night, venture down to Carrollton. This is the 3rd running of the meet and has grown from 4 team in year 1 - 8 teams in year 2 - and 14 teams this year.

Current STATE LEADERS include: STA Kalee Soehnlen in the 800,1600 and 3200 and the STA girls 4x8. Carrollton's Micah Donley in the 400, Maddie Dunlap in the 1600 and Alivia Bentley in the shot. The Indian Creek girls 4x8 and 4x4 are also leading the state. The top 3 girls 4x8 teams from the indoor state meet (STA, IC and Carrollton) will battle. Salem boys 4x4, Louisville boys 4x8 and the state indoor champion Carrollton 4x8 will lead the way as well. Andrew George just ran 10.99 at Stark County in the 100 and Cole Lovett has run 416 this year and both Chaplicks from Louisville have run 417.

There could be some fireworks Friday! 3rd place in the 1600 under 415? 2 girls under 5 in 1600 or 11 in the 3200? 3rd place in the girls 4x8 under 935? Star studded meet for D2/3 (Louisville is the only D1 school attending)

All I ask is for warmer weather than last year.

So far looks like low 70's and a very slim chance of rain on Friday. Serious rain shouldn't move in until after 10 or 11 pm according to Weather Underground. Should be a great meet! Salem's top 800 runner has the ability to crack 2:00, but that still may not be enough to get into the top three places or so. They have been running him in the open 400, 4x8, 4x4 and 4x2, so he may not be in the open 800. Caitlyn Marx and Helene Shontz from Salem have been putting up good marks in the shot and disc and should be among the top throwers.

Quick poll since Warrior CC mentioned food. What meets have the best food? My team likes to chase good food as well as competition.

Results just posted to Baumspage a few minutes ago. Highlight of the meet was St. Thomas' Kalee Soehnlen breaking the Stark County 3200m record with a 10:24.57. She broke ex-teammate Athena Welsh's record of 10:38.xx that was set last year.

The fast heat of the boys 3200 and the 4x400s were not completed before the meet was called due to lightning.

Kalee also broke the all time d3 record as well! Besting Oldings 1032. She went 518-506.. the rain sure didn't bother her! What an impressive run!!

I thought the DIII state record was a faster time, but you are absolutely correct. I only knew the Stark County record from Welsh having broken it the past 2 years (it was 10:50 before Welsh came along).
