Regardless of if they are Kenston or Chagrin Falls, Kenston, they will not be last and certainly not below Mentor or St. Eds. Why is Jackson so High on the list?

Here's another prediction for the Boys DI Team Race:

My gut says Whitmer is too high.

Virtual meets are cool.

I like Jackson's depth, but they had a poor showing at regionals. They didn't have any individuals place in the top 28 last weekend. They've run close to Hudson, Medina, and St. Ignatius at earlier points in the season, but my fear is they might concede too many points up front that they won't take back with their 3-5 runners on Saturday.

I agree Whitmer is most likely too high. Their top 3 can run with any team but even though their 4 and 5 have stepped up big time from earlier in the year they will still give up a lot of points to lots of other teams. Plus they lack depth so if one runner has a bad day will hurt them badly.

Defiance may also little high if they had stayed at D2 they may have had a shot to win state title but D1 is a whole different level of competition.

Mason wins the team race.

Horter wins the boys title in record time.

I will be quite surprised if Hudson doesn't win the team race.

1. Hudson -- 68 points
2. Mason --148 points
3. Medina -- 170 points
4. Hilliard Davidson -- 185 points
5. St. X -- 207 points

Does Mason have a runner or two that have not run and will at the state meet?

Hudson has the better team based off of the runners that ran at the Regional.

I don't think Mason's 2-5 ran very well at Troy. Troy wasn't as fast as usual Saturday (regardless of what anyone else says. Lower level was very soft in large portions, which makes Horter's time more impressive to me.) VOA and State times I think will line up better. We'll see, that's why they race.

I think it will come down to Hudson's 1 and 2. Their PR times are much faster than their normal times. If their 1,2 light it up they win and its not close. If they run a typical race, Mason will win I think.

Individual predictions:

1. Dustin Horter
2. Matt Scrape
3. Arjun Jha
4. Conant Smith
5. Lucas Bons
6. Nate Kawalec
7. Ryan Adkins
8. Zach Applegate
9. Justin Iler
10. Andy Payne

Last year seemed to be deeper from like 5th to 30th. Too bad Kreft and Johnson aren't DI! I could see Scrape upsetting Horter but it will be really really really tough.

Hudson will score under 80 and that is unbeatable. Mason's 5 alone will be that high or higher.

Good picks, overall. I do believe that Horter will win but 2nd will be between Scrape & Conant Smith and either could take the top spot if Horter has an off day. Jha will be around 4th. Applegate and Payne will both place better than you have them.

Where do you think Hudson will start their scoring? They are better than they where last year. They still only have a 25 second 1-5 gap. Look where their guys finished at the Regional compared to guys on other teams that placed at the state last year and you can see they are improved.

They should start scoring around 7-12 and end about 25th ish.

Guy I would put in top ten is Nathan Cousino He soundly beat Applegate at district but Applegate did the same to him at Tiffin last week. If I had to pick between the two I say Cousino get him this week (having team running will help him) but good chance both are top ten

Fun fact - based on the top 10 individuals picked by claynation, Jha and Payne will score a total of 3 team points for Thomas Worthington.

Yeah, That's more of a sad fact than fun. Consider that they won't win the team title going 1,2 in the scoring. Ouch.

If you simply pick the teams in the state final meet using milesplit best times you get:
Hudson 110 6,17,19,33,35
Mason 171 8,27,40,48,51

I went through the first few teams and looked over the times and locations, hurt kids ... and corrected the numbers according to a unique algo to get:
Mason 137 6,14,37,39,41
Hudson 174 15,30,36,45,48

We'll know in a few days. Mason always closes well.

TWHS first two runners got 1,3 Love

I am impressed with the team and their improvement this year. They lost 4 seniors off of last year's team that went to the state meet, and they ended up second at a pretty tough regional. Excellent job by the kids on that team and the coaches.

This is going to be a high scoring year I think.

You have quite a few really fast kids on teams that made it to state, but have slower 4,5 ish runners. Worthington goes 1,3 overall. Pick North 4,5,12 overall. Whitmer 2,9,13 overall.

They are pushing up the scores even though their teams probably will not win.

Toledo St. John's went 1-2-3 in the DI boys team scoring in '06 (Lemon bros. plus Joe Miller), scored a total of 89 pts, and still lost to LaSalle. Their 5th guy wasn't even that bad at 16:59 which was 54th in the team scoring. If he runs 6 seconds faster, they win.

Yep, I remember that year. Woodridge had a pretty good team as well.

My comments aren't meant to be a put down, it's just more sad than fun to have that good a top 2 and not win. 1,2,3 would be even less fun.

That is crazy. I wasn't following CC very close then.

What is also amazing is that 15:43 took 5th place just a little over ten years ago. I don't know what the weather was that day and it was a different course but it would take a monsoon for 5th place to be that slow tomorrow.
