The JV lose to Elder 31-23 and fall to 3-2-1 on the year.
The team could not overcome 4 turnovers (3 INTs and 1 fumble) and multiple pass interference calls (the pass defense was atrocious)

1st Quarter
E: 27 yard TD run, XP good, E 7-0
E: 90 yard INT return, XP good, E 14-0

2nd Quarter
E: 5 yard TD pass, XP good, E 21-0
E: 13 yard TD pass, XP good, E 28-0
X: 9 yard TD pass Hudepohl to Lang, XP good, E 28-7

4th Quarter
E: 36 yard FG, E 31-7
X: 1 yard TD run by Rueve, 2 pt conversion run good, E 31-15
X: 3 yard TD run by Rueve, 2 pt conversion good, E 31-23

Good thing is the other 3 are very athletic and will be on the field somewhere at WR or DB. Also heard Kirby is best baseball player in the class.

FWIW: I believe Hudepohl was involved in both late scores. The first on a 1 yard run after a long pass play to Jack Cook (nice 50 yd catch and run, dove for the pylon, but ruled short). The second a pass to the flat for a 10 yard score by Luke Ireton who was untouched as the two defenders focused on Lang in the end zone.

St X also recovered (Jake Anding) a nicely executed squib kick at the 50 to set up one of the scores.

Hudepohl and Ben Bracken ran in the 2 pt conversions.

Interceptions and Special Teams killed the Bomber Frosh
Poor punts caused poor field position and punts not fielded cost over 50 yards.
Both pinned the offense inside the 5 yard line twice which led to both Lancer scores.

With Clifford sidelined a talented group of receivers (Jordan, Patterson, Cates, Vogelsang and McGinnis) are being underutilized

You're a week early, Reload. Varsity plays this Friday at Ballaban against Football North (Canada) while JV had a late add to the schedule against Springboro (at Springboro) at 10 am on Saturday. Varsity and JV play St Ig's on the 21st.

Let's keep the winning going! The young men are looking dominant at the Varsity level and the JV looks like they'll help "reload" for next year with the talent that they have! Some really good catch and runs evidenced by your statistics above, looks like some good chemistry developing between Hudepohl, Rueve and company. Defense is tightening up as well.

I'm ignoring the varsity game vs Canada this weekend
Thanks for the update on the JV schedule for the away game vs Springboro this Saturday.

I've heard that Kiessling (teammates - take it for what it's worth) will move to DE next season. As good as he is right now I'll think he'll be a game changer at either spot next season.
I've also heard that Gormley is leaving at the end of this week. Which is a shame. He's a really great kid.

Right now it would be hard to say as he didnt take any reps in pads or in a game situation as a 9th grader. Based on what i have seen he defintely has arm talent. His 8th grade footage looks good, but it wouldnt be fair to assess him based on that. Only time will tell, but he looks good in "Cleats and t-shirt" gotta see what he does when the ole "click clack" starts happening though to make a true assessment.

Any other freshmen play in the JV game?

Sophomores that did not play in the JV game were Wyatt Hudepohl, Kellen Newman, Jack Kirby, Garren Carter and Paris Johnson.

Gio Albanese got in on the D-Line, think he had sack. By far best freshman D-linemen. DuBois and I think little Kiessling were there but didn't play. Little Whitrock took most of the QB snaps for the injured Rueve. Joe Kirby is varsity starting safety Grant Kirby's brother.

As a late season recap, the JV beat Springboro, lost to St I's, and beat Highlands, all of which had Varsity players playing down (allegedly).

Overall, for the season (and I'd like to hear others' input), the players who most easily showed well were:

1) Hudepohl (QB) who has a gun for an arm, but could use some touch, he throws SO damn hard! Can easily use his legs to get out of bad situations. Rueve (hurt arm/sholder) as the back-up - good command, good touch.
2) WR's: Lang and Dolle as the primary big-body deep threats in coverage, able to get separation and wrestle the ball against CB's. Smith also had some nice long catches/TDs.
3) Slot: Ireton - gets open underneath and in the flat, and has some elusive moves, also main punt returner who scored several return TDs.
4) TE: Cook, another big body who was a dependable weapon who had some huge plays this year.
5) RB: Newman, Anding, and Bracken, bruising runners who kept the chains and clock moving.

On the defensive side, notables were:
Taylor, LB, who was called up for Varsity (along with Hudepohl, Johnson, Kirby, and Lang), had some HUGE hits for the D.
O'Malley played a great, disrupting DB
Janka with several INT's and Klas with some game saving tackles and defensive punt returns. As usual, it's harder to recognize the successes of the OL's and DL's, but they were certainly big in doing what they do in the trenches. Let me know what "F.O.O.L.S" did well.

I'd like to hear others' recollections on the players I surely missed...

Congratulations to your 2017 success, get ready for Varsity!

I think the future is bright, young men are being developed and readied for next year which is definitely a good thing. There is a lot of talent at the reserve and freshman level. Here is what I saw over the course of the year.

QB Hudepohl shows a lot of promise, has a big arm but has to learn to control it and when to take something off. He will need to work on his touch and decision making in the off season if he wants to be the starter next year. Too many interceptions this year and that will not bode well with Coach Specht. The perfect situation for next year would be for Hudepohl to develop and improve over the summer enough to assume the starting role, allowing Kreimer to stay at receiver. Giving Hudepohl an experienced and talented #1 Receiver.

RB Newman and Payne will be the front runners for next year, Both are getting a lot of meaningful reps this year and Newman has started the last two games on varsity, getting invaluable experience for next year. Bracken and Anding will fight it out for the 3rd spot but may also be candidates to try a new position if they can contribute elsewhere.

LB. Noah Taylor is a monster in the making, Has the height and talent just needs to put on a few pounds, he will definitely be in the LB mix next year, and has gotten a little playing time on varsity this year, again invaluable experience for next year.

D-Line Carter and Bailey both have the body, just need to stay healthy, work hard and stay focused in order to be a contributor next year There is another long tall kid that played DE on JV this year, I don’t know his name but he has potential also. I hated to see Gormley leave.

WR//Slot/TE Lang and Dolle are the front runners from jv to come in and compete for playing time next year. Both are talented and long. Patterson from the freshman team will probably be in the mix somewhere. He has a good combination of speed and hands just needs to mature a little and hit the weights to be ready for the next level.

The missing Link: Tucker Hunley, will he return? My guess is yes based on the rumor mill. If he does he will probably go into the safety mix on Defense as that is where he really wants to play. The kid can definitely play and I would love to see him return.

Weaknesses on JV were DB/CB play, the good news is the Freshman Corners showed some promise and there are several DBs that are juniors that can play (remember the 3 DBs that came down for the Moeller game).

The following Sophomores have started a varsity game: Newman, Johnson and Kirby. These guys have all had varsity reps in a game this year: Hudepohl, Lang, Carter, Taylor. Experience is the best teacher and that gives us 7 sophomores with at least some varsity experience going into next year.

That is all
