Playoff traditions

Does any school or team have any kind of special traditions they do for playoff games? I know in Wauseon for every home playoff game, they end the National Anthem with a firework show. I am curious if any schools do something similar or something different... it's kinda interesting to hear some of this!

Bishop Ready used to be lead onto the field by a bagpipe player. Eerie and cool when you suddenly hear them start.

Deep into the playoffs many teams have a Thanksgiving day practice tradition with alumni coming back.

At Mentor, Coach Triv likes to point to county maps after losses AND wins.

Reno at Steubenville likes to dress the JV only kids in slightly different uniforms to let you know when you've been thoroughly thumped.

Chip Otten at Coldwater likes to sandbag his team's vast superiority over the rest of the field by instructing his QB to watch for the back judge's hand countdown before snapping as soon as the second quarter starts. He recently started a new tradition of coaching the freshmen punters about when to not fake and throw to the uncovered gunner.

a new tradition starting in Massillon, the head coach watches the 1st playoff game from the press box and some other coach "acts" as head coach

St. X has a tradition of tailgating HARD for the playoffs....at least a 3-kegger. Complete with a quarters tourney, keg stands, and beer pong.......

Come on now

At least he forgot to instruct the CB how to correctly defend an out route the following year

Tradition?? Mechanicsburg is built on tradition, and the playoffs are no different. The great Mechanicsburg teams of the past used to have a team dinner the night before the first playoff game and have a dinner.

Massillon does a similar thing, but they do it about 3 weeks earlier when they exit the playoffs....and they gorge themselves on week old Halloween candy instead of turkey and stuffing.

That being said, any team fortunate enough to be still practicing Thanksgiving week, is fortunate enough, period. A special time.

half of the Massillon alumni team is already wearing orange, its an all-orange jumpsuit but it makes picking the teams easier nonetheless

Hartley has a tradition of not getting a student pit until at least three or four weeks in, especially if volleyball is still playing or it's far away or it's really cold outside. We didn't even have one at all in the state title games in 2010 and 2013.

Colerain is usually good every year at turning the ball over at a few inopportune times to end up losing to a GCL school, especially in games when they were heavily favored.

1998-lost to St. X
2001-lost to Elder
2002-lost to Elder-Elder won state
2003-lost to Elder-Elder won state
2005-lost to St. X-X won state
2007-lost to St. X-X won state
2008-lost to Elder
2010-lost to St. X
2011-lost to St. X
2012-lost to Moeller-Moeller won state
2013-lost to Moeller-Moeller won state
2014-lost to St. X
2016-lost to St. X-X won state

Love the Cards but it is a disappointing end that normally happens every season. Many times they lost to an eventual state champ but that doesn't take the sting away much.

Coldwater sometimes paints the shield logo in the middle of the field if we host a playoff game. One year we painted checkerboard endzones like Tennessee. And someone is still salty from 3 years ago. As for the out route. There was a 2 year gap between the two plays and replay showed he stepped out of bounds.

Playoff traditions

Loveland is reviving their old tradition of picking an ECC team to cheer for in the playoffs. This takes place several weeks before the end of the season when they are mathematically eliminated.

Not for playoffs but Moeller has underclassman paint the seniors cleats for the last game of the regular season. You'll see all kinds of colors and designs, anything goes for the most part.
