He's a really good DC. As mediocre as West has always been, the defense was always pretty stout under his tutelage.

I don't remember exactly how many years ago it was that he stepped down, but it was when Amber was going through her health problems...2010/11 maybe?

If Gray being the DC means Larry doesn't have his hand in it then it is an upgrade. The Lakota's are usually disappointing. West has talented players all over the field and they win more than they lose but they lack the discipline to win big. The guy at East lacks the ability to adjust to his talent and they only beat the bottom of GMC plus the weak non conference schedule. At least West schedules quality non league opponents, of course they always lose to Elder, Moeller, Centerville, Wayne, etc. East will get the huge victory over Walnut Hills in week #1!!

Sycamore should actually be pretty good. They return 3 first team GMC players on defense and 2 on offense (both receivers), and a 2nd team GMC player on both sides of the ball as well. They return 7 starters on defense, including Tate Goodyear (Yale commit, but had power conference offers) at nose guard. They ought to be able to stop most non-Colerain teams from consistently moving the ball.

On offense, receiver Jonathan Malek will move to quarterback to run Sycamore's spread option attack. He has game breaking speed and was 6/7 throwing the ball in relief of Borman last year. The offense also returns 3 OL and receiver Myron Williams. They obviously lost Bonner at RB, but they have 2 JV kids from last year that will get the first shot at RB as well as DBs Christian Kelly and Khalis Hicks.

Sycamore certainly won't be deep, but they never are. Obviously, the Colerain game should be a loss, but I think the Mason and Fairfield games are toss-ups because they're at home. Outside of these games, they miss Lakota West and play Loveland and Mt Healthy in the non-conference. I think 6-4 is the floor for this team, and I can see 8-2 and another shot to win a playoff game this year as a realistic possibility.

Gray being the DC means West will be significantly better than 2-8.

H&G - any other information than that? Scores don't mean anything in glorified practices. Moeller their typical size? Colerain their typical speed? Anybody toss a clipboard?

What else can you share?

I thought Moe's o line was smaller than what I am used to seeing. Their QB was directly responsible for their TD's by avoiding certain sacks and showing great athletic ability to make big plays with his legs.
As a Cardinal fan I was very happy to see Colerain's lines hold their own. Obviously neither team schemed for the other so it's line up and play. In that regard it was nice to see them play physical and not be pushed around. D line was better than expectations. Gotta stay healthy but the questions about the d line appear to be non worries. Gunnar looked good throwing the ball and Hick's TD catch was the stuff of ESPN.

On a side note Hawkins from Moeller was as good as advertised.

Moe line was missing Carpenter who is the biggest and most experienced lineman- out for a couple of weeks.

I'm more concerned with replacing Riep, Jones, Beavers, Hyde and Kendricks in the defensive backfield than the defensive line. That includes 3 D1 backs and another that is pretty close to D1 caliber. They were also the key contributors to special teams.

21-14 was the score after the starters went out. McBride had a run at the end of the first half to take it down to the Colerain 2 yard line where they scored on a jump pass to end the half. His run was just as good as the one handed TD catch the Colerain receiver made. Colerain had a TD on a punt snap over the punters head that the Moeller punter recovered on the 2 yard line. One play later TD Cards. I thought both teams were pretty equal. Colerain had more size and speed. I hope they continue this each year as a game style scrimmage.

I came away very happy with what I saw from Colerain. The offense looked very crisp, and Gunner looked like he could be light years better than last season. Looked faster and way stronger. Passes looked crisp. All of the rb's looked good. Shouldn't miss a beat after losing Caldwell. At wr Hicks is a freak. His td catch was incredible! The entire group of wr's should be outstanding. Especially now that Goodie has returned to coaching them.

I agree. I've always enjoyed the Colerain and Moeller scrimmage. Hard hitting and well played and it gives both teams and honest look at what each has before week 1.
Love the play making ability of Moe's QB. Both of their scores came on his ability to escape pressure and make things happen.

In this regard I worry about game experience not talent. The safeties will be especially good. Will they be lock down in week 1? Who knows? I trust their talent and the coaching. X will provide more of a challenge in the passing game than LaSalle but both will sharpen the team. I'd rather them be on point in week 11 or 12 than 1 and 2.
The key for this team is stay healthy. If they do, they will be in the conversation at the end of the season.

Correct.

From the 2000 season forward, Colerain is 118-1 in the GMC.

118 wins...1 loss.

Who won't beat Colerain:
Hamilton
Oak Hills
Middletown
Who could beat Colerain:
Fairfield
Mason
West (with new HC)
East (with new HC)
Sycamore-would require good timing
Let's see what happens:
Princeton under Coach Daniels, the Vikings made some progress, will it continue or head back the other direction.
Not saying this year, more like in the next 4-6 years.
