Went to take a look at it today, don't like it. Such a great natural setting deserves natural grass.

I get what D4 is saying. The turf does seem out of place in that park. That being said, you guys needed an upgrade and the field looks sharp. When will they start on new bleachers?

There are hopes they may be able to get enough money to get the bleachers put in before the season, but we willl see.

Roundhouse
The fireplace of the roundhouse was as close to indoor plumbing as we had back in the day.

Turf
I saw the new turf over the weekend. I have never seen the field without the huge crown needed to help drain rain. Running to sideline from the center of the field was like running down a hill.

Same at Butler for decades...once the turf was installed the crown was no more.

Looks nice. A little more seating and a bigger pressbox and you've got a nice playoff site.

This pic shows a good aerial before/after look of the field. It will definitely be nice for many students this year (football, soccer, band, etc.). As for the fans, they'll still be crammed onto the crappy bleachers Tipp has had for a long time until they get more donations.
One benefit to Tipp's facility will be the fans being closer to the field. At most high school stadiums, they have a track surrounding the field, which pushes the bleachers farther back. Once the new grandstand it built, fans should have a much closer/better view of the action compared to places like Piqua/Troy/Butler, simply because they will be closer.

I went to a playoff game a few years ago ( home field advantage) and thought I step back into 1959. Any improvements will help.

I just want to know what we are suppose to do with the cattle??? Where are they going to graze? Will eating turf hurt them?

Shame they had to remove the old oak tree that shows up pretty much dead center behind the north goal in the before picture. I gathered acorns from that tree a few years back and have some nice small oak trees started from it. Did not know at that time it was soon to be euthanized.

Now that Tipp installed it, Covington and Milton will follow suit. I think it's a good investment and actually saves money.

Is there any evidence of that happening, or is it just speculation on your part?
I do agree that turf can save money in the long run. Obviously the up front investment is large, so it takes quite some time to make up for that investment.

Maybe Milton. I seriously doubt Covington would.

The problem is that with 10-12 year life expectancies, turf fields don’t give a school the time to make up that investment.

I think the cost of re-surfacing is less money than the cost of prepping the ground then laying the surface. It is still expensive as heck to say the least.

No, I have no evidence. Resurfacing a field isn't much more than resurfacing a track.

No, the only thing installed was the turf, and the infrastructure around it, including a new fence. The hope is that with enough money raised the next phase can include bleachers, press box and lighting. The third phase would include new concessions, restrooms, entrances and locker rooms.

It looks amazing. Being a Bulldog alum, I'm jealous. Milton needs a major upgrade.
Congrats to Tipp
