Drew Mattin

Just curious here. He won the wrestle off but they forfeited the weight against ASU. Anyone have any inside info on the wolverines plans at 125? Donít really follow them much but would love to see Mattin have big time success.

Assad was forced to forfeit due to injury while trailing 2-0 in the 1st period in the 3rd and deciding match of their wrestle off. So while he technically did win the wrestle off, given the circumstances I'm sure they'll wrestle again. Michigan forfeited 125 to ASU because their other 2 125 guys are true freshman. I imagine they didn't want to burn a redshirt if Assad's injury is a short term one, they'd at least wait a bit longer to decide if they want Assad or Mattin as the starter this season. Awful nice couple of wins for Mattin this weekend, especially over Sean Russell, after a disappointing MSU Open.

How was it disappointing or why do you think it was disappointing?

Would love to see him RS and gain that year of competition. He can be special at the collegiate level but this year isn’t the year for him on the podium imo.

Went 1-2, with losses to two guys who didn't qualify for NCAAs last year. And that win over Russell is better than many realize- he didn't lose to anyone who wasn't an AA last year.

If Assad isnt healthy, I think Mcfarland is going to be happy with the results he gets out of his true freshman. I wish he was a buckeye.

I'm sure he will have great success, and that UofM degree will be an added bonus!!
