CHL Football 2017

It's getting close enough now to start talking about the 2017 season. As I look ahead it seems like a good chance to be repeat of 2016. Although Wyoming and Indian Hill both lost a ton of talent to graduation, I think they both have enough left to once again be the teams to beat. I think Madeira and Mariemont are clearly in the next tier trying to contend - maybe add Taylor into this mix as well. Then Reading, then Deer Park and Finneytown both fighting to stay out of the CHL cellar. Anyone see this unfolding any other way?

CHL has been very weak for years. But IH & Wyoming should role. Who do they play OOC this year?

Wyoming has NCH, Taft and CHCA. Indian Hill has New Richmond, CHCA and Roger Bacon

Curious to see CHCA pick up both of those teams this year. Regardless, they should be good games to watch. I heard NR loses a lot and we all know NCH and RB are not good football teams.

I think IH will still be really good. I think they lose to Wyoming and CHCA but roll through the rest. Wyoming and CHCA is a toss up. I think it could go either way but I'm going to say the Cowboys win.

1. Indian Hilll. 2. Wyoming. Tie Mariemont & Madeira. 5.Reading 6. Taylor then Deer Park and last Fineytown. It's interesting to note that Fineytown was the the #2 team in 7th and 8th grade when this years seniors where that age. It takes more than 1 good class to have good team, however what has happened to Fineytown is sad.

I believe those junior high teams were led by Kenny Mayberry who is now the starting quarterback at Winton Woods and will likely receive a scholarship to play at the next level.

Must be nice to be one the "haves" in the league and not worry about your best athletes being poached.

From what I hear, Taylor and Reading will start to comepete for last place with Funnytown and Deer Park. The CHL is a 2 team conference. Wyoming and Indian Hill better schedule out of conference games wisely!

What's changed? Finneytown's just seven years removed from having a player (Donavon Clark) who's now on an NFL roster...why wasn't he poached? Not that those teams were good (well, 2011 wasn't bad), but they weren't the tire fires we've seen the last three seasons. They've never been this bad in the history of the school.

Only Week 1 but some impressive individual performances this week.

Mark Manfredi - 242 rushing yards, 4 TDs
Pierson Rogers - 4 rushing TDs in a huge blowout against NCH
Cole Dein - 300 yards passing, 3 TDs
Wally Renie - 400 yards passing, 5 TDs (apparently through an injury)
Charlie Cowart - 150 yards receiving, 3 TDs

Interesting to see who stays consistent into conference play.

Going to be a Good one. Seeing how well Fenwick did against CHCA I'd say this game is a toss up.

Did you notice on the CHL website a kid from IH has TEN interceptions already?

Yeah, I noticed that too. Apparently the kid at 11 tackles and 10 interceptions. Not a bad day.

Wow. New Richmond should have learned to just keep the ball on the ground with that kind of pass defense!

IH and CHCA should be a great game.

I think CHCA will be more sophisticated on offense than New Richmond was and the defense for IH will need to be quick to the ball.

Just looking at the game summary it seemed like CHCA jumped out to a big lead and let it slip away against Fenwick. Don't know if the defense wore down but Fenwick had a pretty solid day on the ground getting over 200 rushing yards but I believe also they are a run-oriented team.

Saw a comment about the QB situation. Is there a key injury for one of the teams?

No. CHCA's QB Vanatsky started as a freshman at QB for Indian Hill then ended up at CHCA for his sophomore year. I would imagine he knows most of the kids on the Braves and they know him.

Gotcha. Is he the son or maybe relative of Jim Vanatsky? He was the coach at Loveland not too long ago and also has been an assistant several places.

They definitely seem to be. 53 run attempts and 18 pass attempts against CHCA.

Two pass oriented teams could be impacted by the weather on Friday. Which team runs the ball better? Looks like CHCA had trouble stopping the run last week.

Wyoming appears to be on a roll. Can they take down CHCA on the road this week? The Eagles knocked off the Braves 21-14 in the rain last week.

CHL needs a big week this week as it is their last chance to get second level points for the playoffs.

Shroder vs. Mariemont
New Miami vs Deer Park
Hughes vs Finneytown
Woodward vs Madeira
Roger Bacon vs Indian Hill
Taylor vs Norwood
Summit vs Reading
Wyoming vs CHCA

I think they can win all except for Taylor. My guess is Finneytown and Deer Park could win because Hughes and New Miami both aren't very good but you never know with those teams. Reading is probably another toss up and they could have a tough time stopping Johnson but it is a game they can win. Obviously, Wyoming and CHCA is the premier game of the week and should be a playoff type atmosphere. I believe the game is on Star 64.
