Let's be honest. The ranking order for this is bad. Harper and spear are kickers who while very good still missed 7 or more field goals. They should be 25 at best on this list if they make it

Mitch hewitt for chardon had over 100 tackles at LB and over 1400 yards as a fullback as a dual threat for chardon. How he is not higher and how he's behind kickers is a joke

Others who played before that in high school who would have been in were Desmond Howard (Heisman '91 - possibly for Super Bowl MVP), OJ McDuffie, and Joe Jurevicius (could get in from winning a Super Bowl).

If choosing a defensive player, Ben Pike could possibly sneak in outside the top ten. He was Ohio D-I Defensive Player of the Year.

Glad to see Mitch Trubisky signed his contract for over $29 million. I believe it was fully-guaranteed with a signing bonus over $19 million. Great kid and well-deserved. He will surely give back.

I would agree. But I guess that making the list is a great accomplishment. It is difficult to get the order exactly right. Many positions, and although it is individual, team success is sometimes counted in the equation. Overall, I think it was a great idea to do this to give the players recognition and to see where they are now.

I dont know, I think they earned that spot. Harper was a huge part for Mentor making it to the title game that year in 2007. If it wasnt for Harper, they lose to Glenville at Lakewood stadium. If Mentor had just an avg kicker they loose by a score or two instead of winning by one point. Ill never forget that game when Cordale Scott had two 95+ yard return TDs. Harper being able to get touchbacks on a majority of the kickoffs saved that Mentor defense. I want to say the two return TDs Scott had he caught the ball on the one really, with Harper just missing the touch back. If Scott was able to return every Kick he prolly would of had more return TDs or at least set up that Glenville offense up for even better field position. Also helps that Harper got a big D-I offer. Still surprised he didnt get any truly looks in the NFL he had a pretty good college career kicking in a very tough venue.

Harper had a strong enough leg, but to be a kicker in the NFL you have to be very consistent. With only one kicker per team, Harper was not quite consistent enough to make an NFL team. In college, he missed a chip-shot field goal in regulation vs. Notre Dame to win and lost in overtime, enabling Notre Dame to play for the national title that year.

Pretty much the most perfect schedule for us. I'd like to play Euclid or Solon in week 10 instead of Elyria. That's the only thing I'd change

Scrimmages are kenston and a few others at kenston. Away vs Massillon Jackson. Then home vs Erie cathedral prep

MG2002, hope you are right about the schedule. I am thinking that it will take at least 7 wins to make the playoffs. How does the rest of the league stack up against Mentor?

8-2 losses to Iggy and Solon. Playoffs yes, 2nd round out with loss to Eds or Iggy in 2nd round.

I like the way that you think. Hoping that Mentor gets some weapons on offense -- they like to score points. Without a top receiving core and a top RB, eight wins will be tough -- will they have playmakers at those positions? Or will this team's identity be on defense?

Glenville and Euclid will be the only other dogfights on the schedule. Of course we still don't have the official list of incoming Euclid transfers just yet. They still have 6 days to finish up before camp starts

Transfers? From VASJ? Don't they all live in Euclid?

I only know of one VASJ kid going to Euclid this year. I have heard of four others coming in from Cleveland and some Eastside suburbs.

Deal was never signed. It was talks. Then Glenville with 2 home games came along. A deal your school took too

We went over this already. Go away.

You just never know. Solon has won a few in a row over Mentor but they aren't a world beater. It depends on Mentor. They've beaten all these teams before

My God are you a piece of work. Go ask your AD the deal was signed. Mentor backed out to get the two easy wins over Glenville.

I know the AD. He's the one who told me nothing was signed.

You guys play Glenville too so apparently you like easy wins too.

Your are the piece of work trolling our thread. We went over this already earlier in this thread. Get a life and move on

Schedule this year is perfect. Play all the teams that the school prefers to play. I'd take one like this every year.

Hard to believe the first scrimmage is 2 weeks away Will be at kenston that morning

First not trolling just letting the public know how Mentor works. Second, your AD is a liar! Lastly, yes playing Glenville will give a lot of kids a chance to hit the field. I think our schedule speaks for itself.

Stop with the insults and grow up. If you present the facts then I wouldn't have to post.

I'm done now so you can continue to ramble on.

I did present the facts. We went over this earlier in the thread. You and your Eds guys trolled then. Now you are rehashing it

You are the one who came into our team thread starting stuff and calling me a piece of work. Then you are going to say for me to stop the insults? Please. What a joke

I'm not the one in another schools thread trolling. You are the one who needs to move on and grow up

Fact is there was never a signed contract. Saying mentor does that and it's how it works with them is another bogus joke. But nice try making things up

Bart Tanski, the No. 7 best individual season on the NH's 25 best over the past 25 years

http://www.news-herald.com/sports/20...rt-tanski-2007

The 2002/2003 teams (built on defense and a successful spread offense) took Mentor to a new level. The Tanski-era (2006/2007) took Mentor to the next level. After his senior season, I wasn't so sure that I would see a Mentor QB better than Tanski. It didn't take long as Mitch started his first varsity game a few years later. Tanski didn't have the physical tools of Trubisky, but he was a spectacular HS QB.

Tanski was a great one. That kid will be talked about for decades among Mentor football fans

You are right that he didn't have the physical tools of Trubisky. He made up for it by using his brains and one hundred percent of the talent he did have to be a true winner

With Desmond Howard at number 4, I think you may have left: Trubisky, Jurevicius, and the combo of Hauber/Washington of Kirtland's state title team.

Great assessment MG2002. After seeing Smith at 3, it's probably gonna be Hunt 2 and Trubisky 1.
