Not surprising. You'd probably have half the crowd kneeling considering the average soccer fan is an unwashed Bernie Sanders supporter.

Get back to me after it's happened.

BTW, not playing the anthem before a sporting contest is in no way disrespecting the country. Try to keep up please.

Talk about making stuff up! You might be surprised at the demographic make-up of soccer supporters in general and MLS supporters in particular.

The die hards at FC Cincinnati games are the reason I don't go to many games. I don't really care to be associated with those people.

I like soccer but I can't stand the hipster beard wearing, IPA drinking, lame American soccer chanting crowd.

In the sections where I sit you don't see to many "hipsters". Mostly just regular folks watching the game from the "40 yard line" at Nippert. And I wouldn't characterize the crazies in the Baily, who add a lot of atmosphere & fun to the game experience, as hipsters - crazy barbarians would be a better description.

Why? And who says the "core" fans are "hipsters" - you guys. What happened to the soccer moms & dads? You guys are simply regurgitating a myth.

Apparently Sig has attended FC Cincinnati games and noticed the same thing. Seems like you're just in denial.

Well then I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. They're definitely hipsters.

It's the conservatives in Portland and Seattle and Toronto and etc that are showing up to the games.

The hardcore supporters groups definitely draw particular collectivist/tribal types but they make up a fraction of the overall crowd at any given game.

Anyone who reads the FCC subreddit knows that the diehards are a bunch of insufferable puzzies. A collection of absolutely pretentious twats.

No doubt, the Netherlands and Italy absences are the two biggest shockers, with USA and Chile (#9 FIFA ranking) the next biggest surprises.

Also a bit surprising: the African nations will look a lot different this Cup without Cameroon, Algeria, Ghana or Ivory Coast.

Will probably be one of the lowest rated World Cups ever. Bad year for Fox.

I'll be rooting for Germany. As of now, Iceland and England look like my secondary teams to root for (maybe Iran...just kidding!). When the World Cup begins, I'm sure I'll find a few other teams and players that I like.

Iceland was a blast watching in the 2016 UEFA Euro when they reached the quarterfinals. A nation of 330,000 people (about the size of Cincinnati). Iceland!

I'm glad Italy's out because that means Germany can't lose to them in the semifinals again

Should be a cakewalk for Germany honestly. I think they're well ahead of the next best team

I've only been to one match. The Bailey group is a bit odd but they are just haven't fun and not really bothering anyone. 95% are families or local soccer teams/player.

I watched the first half of the Italy/Sweden match. Italy was dominating I'm surprised they lost.

Ireland is out. Lost to Denmark 5-1 agg.

Looks like US Soccer is looking to host Italy, Netherlands, and Chile prior to the WC.

Sweden was knocked out in the playoff four years ago by Ronaldo's insane hat-trick, so you can't fault them for rubbing it in a little. God bless these Portuguese commentators

They probably weren't going to be great anyway since the majority of games will be start at 7am and 10am.

If this "World Cup NIT" tournament thing actually comes to life, I don't see why they'd have to play it prior to the World Cup given the time differences.

Yeah I shouldn't have said "probably". It's going to be a total disaster for Fox

Can't see the NIT thing working either. There just won't be much interest there at all

FCC offers to pay for a stadium in Oakley themselves in return for not paying any taxes. I still like the Newport site the best but this deal seems most likely and the county needs to accept it. Kudos to Hamilton County for playing harball and not giving them $100M. This is the model other cities should follow when it comes to stadium deals, assuming it goes thru of course.

So far, I've seen USA, Canada, Italy, Netherlands, Wales, N. Ireland, Ireland, Chile, Ghana, Cameroon, and Ivory Coast mentioned. I think it would be interesting. A lot of younger players would be used.

None of the stars are going to want to play in glorified friendlies while the WC is going on. They can do it but nobody's going to watch

Can't imagine the complete cluster f*** if they build the FC Stadium in Oakley. The infrastructure cannot handle it.
