Mac 2017

I like Toledo in the West and Ohio in the East.

Miami should be improved. They play Marshall tonight. Akron and Kent both losing right now against PSU and Clemson. Hope they can put up a fight but not optimistic.

Kent State playing a bizarre game. They have not attempted a single pass in the first half, and the acting head coach claims it was intentional. Their third series featured two delays of game and two false starts, all in a row. They've already swapped one QB for another, just to have him simply hand off the ball as well. So many instances of 12 men on the field you'd think they were doing it on purpose.

Once they settled in they actually didn't do half bad considering they're a bottom barrel MAC team playing the national champion, but what a strange series of choices. Trying to run plays that won't get anyone injured and just collect their payday from Clemson? Kent did lose their starting QB last year against Penn State. Deny the rest of the MAC game film to scout them since they know they're gonna lose the opener anyway?

I don't know why Kent is in the FBS. Surely they'd be better off playing in YSU's conference.

Ohio will probably win the East with a 9-3 record. We will lose to Toledo in the MAC title game

or maybe WMU isn't done yet.

Toledo didn't look particulary sharp against Elon. Elon., ugh. O-Line is porous.

Basketball. The basketball team would never let them leave the MAC, since they've had a lot more success and dropping down would hurt them. Kent already spends the least amount of money on football in the MAC out of all teams. I think Kent just doesn't care that they only have a good football team once every 25 years.

Horizon league would let them keep their b-ball team and deemphasize football. My preference they stay. Too many "jump ship" types in the MAC. NIU and WMU both showed, the MAC can get enough 3 star, the rare 4 star and coach up the unrealized to compete with the P5.

There's plenty of talent available. The P5 is lazy. They're not looking for the local kid that maybe didn't have the coaching talent available. They're looking for their talent at the football factories, the state competitors.... and if an unknown shows up at a camp and performs well enough to get recognized... they might recommend that kid to a former assistant, now head coach at a mid-major. I see not the rare kid coming to Toledo out of certain places and realize, it's Saban or Pinkel or someone like that, who made the initial connection at a camp. A couple recent recruits were on Iowa St's radar, somehow ended up at Toledo. Again, that's Campbell, who left not on popular terms but apparently loyalties remain to people still in Toledo.

They might have more high profile pros than any MAC team, and they were on the cusp of an Orange Bowl berth just a few years ago, but lost to NIU. Again, that's more than most of the MAC teams can say.

Odd how a coach can so work at one place and completely face plant at another, even given more resources. At Kent, he would have beaten some of those teams he lost to at Purdue.

This has been a pretty interesting MAC season IMO.

Toledo and NIU are tied at 3-0 in the MAC West. WMU is right behind them at 3-1 after losing at home to Akron last Sunday (there were pictures on Twitter, WMU's field flooded Saturday, game was played concurrent with NFL 1PM on Sunday which was interesting)

Ohio and Akron are tied at 3-1 in the East.

...

Outside that Akron/WMU game last Sunday, none of the teams I've mentioned above have played each other yet.
Toledo, NIU and WMU all play each other still in the West. Ohio and Akron play each other in the East. Toledo also has a cross-division roadtrip to Ohio in a couple weeks.

As far as Tuesday/Wednesday night MAC football goes, this is best case scenario. #MACtion

Toledo looks like a hospital ward. Highest penalty rate in the conference. Lost their biletnikoff candidate to a broken leg and several off a line that had already been decimated by graduation. Freshmen playing all over the field.

Ohio game going to be real interesting.

Wow, that was possibly Ohio's most impressive win under Solich. Dominant on both sides of the ball.

Typical Frank Solich team... Both offensive and defensive lines are playing really well. Ohio has been hit particularly hard by injuries the past few years and thankfully we've avoided that so far. Also, Ohio looks like they've finally got their QB settled. Rourke can run and throw. Perfect fit for this offense.

Ohio can clinch the East next week @Akron.

Speaking of Ohio's offensive line, ESPN announcer commented they look like a B-10 offensive line...

6-7, 321
6-4, 280
6-2, 300
6-6, 330
6-6, 313

Frank Solich football! (and 4 of 5 return next year )

Toledo didn't put up much of a fight. Probably didn't help that there was a apparently a Lear jet from Lincoln, Nebraska come through here the week leading up to the game. Same thing that happened with the last coach before a game that could put Toledo over the top.

Ohio has a good thing in Solich, who seems to have found a home more valuable than money. Hopefully Toledo doesn't fall completely apart as they did when the last coach left, make the MACC and put up a better fight.

Ohio's offense is really good. Huge line and a very good running QB. Only been able to go to two games but was impressed. OU should be loaded next year
