Championship runs through Sylvania????

Some young teams who took some lumps could more up - Bowling Green and Springfield.

Agree, both Sylvania teams have a good point guard (in Southview's case point guards), good spot up shooter and very big "big" for the NLL (6'7"-6'8" range), who can score around the rim.

Anthony Wayne - They lost a whole lot and have a bunch young guys who need to step up
Bowling Green - Top returning scorer in the league at over 20 PPG
Maumee - Sadly can't seem to stay healthy. Will the coaching change help?
Napoleon - Lost 26 PPG from Lauf
Northview - Lost Jessing, but still have a lot back
Perrysburg - Lost a lot, but system seems to work with whoever they insert
Springfield - They were very young, fast and athletic
Southview - Have the most known talent coming back, with Northview a close 2nd

Not around often anymore but Maumee has Pacer back at sg, Hicks will be healthy for the first time since his freshman year and hopefully can have a good season as a wing or small forward along with Perez. Need to replace Graetz at point but expect them to replace him by committee. Should be a pretty athletic team with a couple (possibly 3 if Haney comes back out) posts that are 6’4+. If they can get enough shooting they should be as good if not better than last year under a new staff.

Without knowing a lot my predictions:
SV 12-2 returns a lot of shooting but coaching unknown concerns me
AW 11-3 a big school in the league reloading in all sports. They’ll have some shooters and a decent post I’m sure.
Perrysburg 9-5 sims at point and Boyce coaching the next 3 years could be scary
NV 8-6 lose their best player but west and company still good
Maumee 7-7 expect maumee to start hanging around upper tier in future
BG 4-10 return one stud but not sure their is much else.
Springfield 3-11 young and athletic last year but don’t think they have size or shooting
Napoleon 2-12 losing top player in the league and heart of their team hits hard

Sounds about right.

I was told Maumee looked improved over last year in their scrimmage with Tiffin Columbian and Findlay.

They handled Tiffin pretty easily and played multiple tight quarters vs Findlay after getting beat pretty bad the 1st quarter.

Not sure how good Findlay is this year, but they are never a bad team.

Maumee beat Swanton by 8, but led by 15 for much of the game. Maumee has a couple guys who can shoot the 3 at a pretty high percentage.

Swanton lost their 3 top guys from last year and appear to be rebuilding.

Blade - Coaches Picks;

1. Southview
2. Perrysburg
3. Anthony Wayne
4. Northview
5. Springfield
6. Maumee
7. Bowling Green
8. Napoleon

Southview with a nice win over St. Francis. Was that a real game or a foundation game?

Southview is looking good so far, handled Perrysburg with ease. Holiday tournament should be fun.

Southview is a lot deeper than I thought going into the year. I don't think they can beat St. Johns, but can beat anyone else in the district.

Blade poll for division 1.

St. Johns
Southview
Northview
Whitmer
St. Francis

This looks right to me based on current record, but I think Northview would lose to both Whitmer and St. Francis. Northview has been taking care of business, but the 8 teams they have played/beaten are a combined 18-46 so it is tough to judge just how good they are.

Start, Findlay or Anthony Wayne would be #6 if they went that deep.

AW would be predicted over Northview and PBurg, yes?

Both AW and Southview seemed to match up well with Wauseon, so how did Southview trounce AW?

Battle of Sylvania coming up on Friday. Southview has played the more difficult schedule. I think SV depth will be the difference. SV by 6-8.

Watched the replay of the Southview/Northview game. Very good game. Southview has a decent big and a couple shooters but nothing really sticks out about them that would make you think they are good but they are. Northview has not played Southview's schedule but they played with the Cougar's tit for tat. Rematch could be really good. Always pulling for the East Sider.

Can anyone tell me why Borchardt(spl?) left AW? Was/Is he a teacher?

This sounds a familiar discussion. I think someone said it was one of those more time with family things.

Good chance of being first or second in each league: H (TRAC), M(Northview), W(Start) and the Rossford guy at CS(TAAC).

In all honesty after watching the replay of Southview v. Northview as well as the top teams in the TRAC ,NWOAOL , TAAC, NBC. There are a lot of good team but not great. I believe there may be a total of 3 built for a possible deep tournament run.

St. Johns, Wauseon, Cardinal Stritch, the rest depends on matchups.

Amazing that Josh Arthur has Anthony Wayne (5-1; 9-3) in contention in the NLL yet he was run out as head coach at Maumee Valley at mid-season a couple of years ago by the athletic director and current head coach. He must have learned a lot in the season and a half he spent as an assistant at AW under Bryan Borcherdt.

He may have learned a thing or three from Jim Robinson Sr. while at MVCD as well. Probably for the better, although I donít think assistants at AW show their homemade videos to players.

AW was hardly an empty cupboard or without resources, as seen in football with the change. A very young coach did excellent. An experienced coach should be expected to do fine. Wasn't it generally considered that AW was under-performing in athletics? Economics wins.

Not commenting on the relative merits of the new versus the old at MVCD but I don't recall MVCD being all that before this "run out?" If a poor decision was made, I'd imagine those that did it to be soon "run off" themselves or who knows? Anyone know a school without internal politics?
