I would have liked to see Ed’s and Lakewood at Elyria and John Marshall and Berea-Midpark at Strongsville, but I’m sure a lot of people are happy to see Ed’s and Iggy in the same district.

Due to competitive balance there really is no easy District(s) in NEO. With a quick look it appears that 2016 teams that competed for District and Regional titles in Div II like CCC, Benedictine, East Tech, and Hoban get moved up with no notable 2016 Div I team moving down.

Hoban did not get moved up. They were DI last year.

Euclid added Benedictine and East Tech to a district that was already pretty deep. CCC and WGH are headed over to make Solon a more competitive district. I have to say that I am happy to see Ignatius/Eds remain in the same district.

Off the top of my head, the best NEO DI team that got moved down is Glenville.

And in one swoop Mentor's supposed easy road every year becomes a juggernaut district!

The interesting question is to which regions do the districts feed?

As I mentioned on another thread, the districts appear to be pretty balanced (on paper months before the games will be played). However NEDAB still puts its members at a big disadvantage in being the only board in the state that doesn't allow for seeding/slotting flexibility through super-districting.

Boardman has 3 starters returning and a good/deep class of sophs who only lost 1 game as freshmen last year and most were lopsided wins.

Boardmanís negatives will be lack of height and lack of experience at varsity level from the bench. Iíd anticipate a lot of Sophs on bench.

On paper they should be the top team from the Youngstown/warren area though. Boardman has a few good early tests on neutral courts with Mentor (@Poland) and Jackson (@Mount Union).

I'd rather St. Edward and St. Ignatius be in separate districts

NEO Division I Districts

I'm sure most Eds fans miss their cakewalk district which had little to no competition

no I don't mind a tough district. Just Wildcat free. Those games are special and having the stakes higher, in Regional or State rounds, makes it even better.

Why artificially gerrymander the districts when we already have (and have used in the past) a solution that creates balance?

The mini-super districting they did a couple of years ago? I was fine with that. They didn't combine the entire region, but it was a good move to combine two districts into one mega-draw.

Yes, and because there are more districts that are part of NEDAB than any other board, I can understand the argument against going to a fully-combined districting format. But I simply do not understand the idea of setting strict geographic-based districts in advance and hoping that they will be balanced from one season to the next. At the very least, and I know this has been said by many others, I think it should be as close to consistent statewide as possible.

I believe Lake will still be strong, no reason to think they wonít be on par with the past few Lake teams. McBride has something good going there.

Barberton District

I'd call Hoban the early favorite followed by the group of Copley, Ellet, Stow and Wadsworth.

The usual Mentor bye into regionals got tougher a few years ago and is even tougher this year. Brush and Solon should be tough and challenge Mentor and so will the newly added Benedictine. The Solon district is brutal. Euclid should be improved, Garfield is loaded, CCC is always tough as is Shaker and Harding.
