And they have a competitive balance number over 120 and it is all because they are giving some inner city Akron kids a better education.

You can be as sarcastic as you want.....but there is no question a student and/or athlete attending high school at St V is getting better education than someone attending an Akron Public School (and I am a graduate of a public school....and a supporter of public high schools).

The % of seniors graduating from St. V who continue on to college (many with academic and athletic scholarships) have averaged in the 97-98% range over the past 10 years.

I would hope that 100% of the people sending their kids to private school paying $10,000 per year were sending those kids to continue on to college.

Nobody on this basketball forum cares about the school stats. Relate those same numbers to only the kids on the basketball roster. In the last 10 years, how many St.V hs basketball players attended Akron city schools and what % on the HS roster have gone on to get an academic or athletic scholarship.

SVSM would have had trouble this year in D1 with two of their losses coming from teams most likely in their same district. I can’t say the same for next year. SVSM is loaded with returning talent and deep all the way to Lebron’s son’s class. It will be fun to watch how mad people get when they win in the big boy division too. Their best years just might be the next ten.

Will Joyce follow former girls coach Pat Dulius' past history and pack his team up and move to a D3 school?

SVSM may not need to. That team just might win D1 next year.

Yes! SVSM to division 1! A couple years overdue, Coventry's window to capitalize on this opportunity is probably shut, but I can imagine Louisville, Tallmadge, Buchtel, Norton, etc are all salivating over this opportunity. Heck, maybe Woodridge moves to this district to replace SVSM. Its nothing against SVSM of course, but it is nice to shake things up in our district.

For the first time in a long time, the DII Canton district won't be a contest to see who gets to lose to St. V. by 30+ in the district final.

Yes, I expect a lot more heart in these teams come district time. No team with a chance is gonna want to squander their opportunity. I think it will make for some really great games, as teams will suddenly have a ton more motivation to advance.

Looking at NE Ohio DII Districts from last year, I can see the following changes for 2018-19:
Boardman: adds Canfield (down from DI) and one school (maybe West Branch?) is moved to the Canton district.
Canton: SVSM moves to DI and is replaced by Manchester (moving up from DIII) and one school from the Boardman district is moved here (again maybe West Branch).
Lakeside: Ash. Edgewood moves to DIII
Stow: Warrensville Hts moves to DI and is replaced by Benedictine (down from DI, who was at Stow prior to the 17-18 season). Cleveland Central Catholic which was also moved down from DI is moved back to Stow.

That would the leave:
Boardman -13 teams
Canton - 13 teams
Lakeside - 12 teams
Stow - 13 teams

Just my opinion, but makes sense, but then again, when did the OHSAA ever make sense.

Dulius never coached at St V so this comparison makes no sense.

Dulius did win 9 state championships as a coach.....pretty impressive.

The answer to your question is "h**l no". St V has always played the best and will welcome the challenge of trying to be the best in Division 1 in 2018-19.

The Lakeside district does not stay the same. Ashtabula Edgewood was moved to Division 3. Ravenna from Boardman district seems most likely to be moved into where St V. left their district. Canfield takes their place in Boardman.

That's because DP is a closed district, so all the kids live in the district. Their number will always be 0 unless the go to open enrollment.

That is not true, their are other schools that are closed enrollment and do not have a 0 CB no.

Interesting point about West Branch, if my memory serves. They were in the Canton District when the Summit County teams were in the Barberton District. When the latter was eliminated resulting in the reassignments, they were moved out. Now here is the interesting part, at the time, a member of the NEODAB was an administrator from West Branch. Was he being "gracious" or "getting out of Dodge?" 🤔

This would make no sense. Joyce gets a huge paycheck from being at StV with his connection to Lebron, his camps, his AAU and his celebrity status. If he were to leave that would all go away.

No reason not to use that "I helped last time, now you pay it forward" card now that SVSM has moved up.

yes its 0 because all the kids claimed to move to Deer Park. Its a loophole in the CB clause. They could move 50 kids in there and their number would be 0

All you haters out there, enjoy the one year SVSM moves up to DI, because next year they will be right back in DII.

All they have to do for the 2018-19 school years is keep 36-38 players on the three levels (frosh, JV and varsity) instead of the traditional 45 (15 on each level) and for 2019-20 they are right back in DII.

I can't wait FOR that announcement.
