Boys D2 poll. I'm assuming that #3 team is supposed to be Unioto?

Odd

Not ranking worthington kilbourne boys after a 6th place finish at preseason meet is an oversight. Ashland way too low as well. Time will tell

Remember:

Polls are fun, fun, fun!!!

They are made to be judged and complained over.

Without the NCAA footballs polls every week, ESPN would be out of business.

Have fun with the polls and no hard feelings. Judging and complaining is part of the reason why, just why, just why...

I, quickly reviewed the top 5 teams in all divisions. And I have to tip my cap to the fine early job done by the pollsters. There is a good chance Last weekend’s results may not have been available to influence the coaches picks. But, just a heads up. In girl’s D2 #1 Hawken’s #3-4 runner has transferred to Beaumont’s (NR) Beaculate Program. This gives the Blue Streaks a very very good top four, and puts Hawken in a similar position that Beaumont has been in the last two seasons (lack of depth at 4 and 5).,,, Both teams have great coaching experience and will find a way to get their squads to Hebron in November.

Completely agree on Ashland. Maybe under radar a little because there #1 and #2 are track standouts that just ran their first CC race.

Daniel Arimi is a SR and went 16:25 and Kaden Mendenhall is a JR and went 16:53.

The runner for Ashland I wonder about is Blade Estle he went in the 16:30's as both a So and JR ran track as a FR and SO but didn't run this past spring and also didn't run in the preseason meet. Is he hurt, move or just stop running?

A quick google search came up with this:

"Six-Semester Graduate
Approve the following as a six-semester graduate of Ashland High School, having met all credit requirements:
Blade Estle"

Transferring to take advantage of another school's International Baccalaureate program is Exception 8 in the list of transfer exceptions, so the runner from Hawken should be eligible at Beaumont for the entire season as long as she remains enrolled in the IB program. That's definitely a bit of a hit for Hawken.

D2 boys should be.

1 Sheridan
2 Shelby
3 Woodridge

Those 3 are the clear top tier with $V$M a close 4

5 Lexington
6 Heath
7 Bay

Are Tier 2

No Idea why Unioto or Rocky River would be anywhere in this group. They would fall in the mash up at 8-20

I think you can drop Lexington down if not out of the top 20. They didn't have much depth last year and it doesn't look like they found replacements to graduates. Kyle Johnston still a stud and ran a 16:06 today #2 went 17:53 #5 18:37. With 4 of top 5 being Sr. it looks like there time at top of D2 is going to take a break.

Lexington should have back 4 from last years state team. 2,4,6,7 Their 6,7 were about as good as any other teams 6 and 7. 7 was a freshman, so they really only need one or two. They have to get that #5, but I would imagine they will develop someone. Too strong not to.

Woodridge and $V$M both looked strong today.

Shelby looked equally good. 1:40 gap 1-5 or 1:20 2-5 might have to tighten, but impressive day.

Here is some depth. Woodridge's 15th man finished before any other teams 7th. That included McDonald, Maplewood and Chardon. Not sure if they all ran their top 7, but who ever knows. Woodridge had 5 scorers in top 9. Not a bad start.

Right now my top 3 would be Shelby, NDCL(check out Berkshire results) and Woodridge. Lexington far back. Did not see Sheridan yet.

I know it's early , but the debate is the fun part.

I have no proof as I didn't measure the course, but when most of the top runners are setting big PRs in the first meet of the season, I'm having my doubts about the accuracy of the course. Why here and at no other meets?

Berkshire has never been a particularly fast course. Anyone at the meet have any insights? Was there a course change from past years?

There have been years when the middle school course was 200+ meters short and they didn't say anything about it being short until after the race was over.

It wouldn't surprise me if the course was only 3 miles this morning.

At Berkshire, the lead pack took a wrong turn and did not follow the 4 wheeler, the rest of the field followed the lead pack. So everyone ran a short course. I had my top 2 rerun the parts later and figured they cut 40 seconds. The Berkshire coach later emailed saying he measured the distance and calculated they ran 186 meters short.

By the way, that was in the boys race. They put a person out there after so the girls race was fine.

Well that changes my opinion some, although NDCL did still win.

Assuming this is correct and that the boys would have run the other 186 meters at the same pace as they averaged for 4814 meters (), the attached file shows adjusted times for the boys 5k at Berkshire.

Wasn't there something similar last season? Or, maybe it was just that NDCL came out gang busters then too. I do know that early on last year they had great pack running. I would think that Bay, NDCL, $V$M and Woodridge have got to be the early favorites to capture 4 spots to the state meet. The number of teams that can grab those 2 spots is amazing. Probably 10 teams. and if one or two of my top 4 have issues, the Regional will be really exciting.

D2 Team Championships should be fun this year. Unioto has a chance shock some people. I think Shelby is #1 with NDCL #2 and Woodridge and Sheridan following. I think Heath could be a team to watch as long with their Central District foes Jonathan Alder, another team to watch. Akron SVSM is another team to throw into the discussion.

If I had a vote, a rough draft would look a little like this.

1. Shelby
2. NDCL
3. Woodridge
4. Sheridan
5. Akron SVSM
6. Rocky River
7. Bay
8. Heath
9. Lexington
10. Jonathan Alder

Here is a breakdown of the D2 Boy’s

Returnees

1,2,3,6,7,8, Shelby they have a great front, they now have to bridge the gap with the back of the pack...

1,2,3,4,5,6,7, NDCL. They have to continue treading upward all season

2,3,3,4,5,6,7,8, Woodridge they have to continue to be coached by Jeff Howard

2,,4,5,6,,8 Sheridan not to worried about them..they have tradition

1,3,4,5,9,11. SVSM I thought they had some rebuilding to do but I was mistaken

3,6,8,10 Rocky River the pirates have the most rebuilding to do out of this crowd

Bay 2,3,5,6,7, I like it when they have to rebuild, it gives us some kinda chance to run with them

Heath 3,4,5,6,8, the jury is still out on them but they got a lot to start out with

Lexington 2,4, 6, this great team is going to have to work hard to continue the tradition

I, learned one thing Milesplit is a great tool to start off with....but it’s only as accurate as the information it receives...

Are these rankings for before meets on 8/25? I know that they were released today, but the way these look suggest that the only prior knowledge the voters had was the OHSAA Preseason meet.

St. Xavier beat Mason head to head at the Moeller Primetime meet last Friday, yet their spots didn't change from the pre-season poll with Mason 2nd and Xavier 4th.

The Olentangy Orange girls won at Pick North, beating Liberty, Thomas and Gahanna who are all still ranked ahead. Maybe only a few remembered to vote and most votes stayed the same.

This is how I understand it. Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong. Each division has 12 coaches within that division who volunteer to vote on the poll. They vote for a top 20. Hence is Division I boys you see Hudson with 240 points since each of the 12 coaches voted them them first. First place gets 20 points down to 1 point for twentieth place, therefore Hudson is shown with 240 points and a #12 in parenthesis. They get 12 x 20 = 240.

D1 boys breakdown:
(1)St. X should be in front of Mason. Voters 100% missed this one.

(2)Hot summer bash- Davidson, Liberty, Centerville will all be racing each other.

(3) After Tiffin/Mason/Watkins is usually the first accurate poll because of like opponents.

(4) Pick Central is too high. They finished 11th at pre-state behind a bevy of schools including: Kings, Worthington K, Thomas Worthington, St. Eds and UA.

(5) Lancermania- historically for the last 20+ Fairmont has not been the best team in Dayton- I'd go with Centerville almost every year. Centerville almost won the Finishtiming race without their top 2 runners. I'd expect them to be a solid #3 at the Troy Regional behind St. X and Mason. After those 3 schools you have Turpin and Kings that look decent.

(6) Ashland was a close #2 at the prestate meet to Hilliard. Looking at the results they were only 8 seconds from beating them. HD LeClair did not run well, but Ashland needs to be ranked 3-6 not #9.
