OHSAA pre-season

Any news from down at the meet? Looks to be a tad slow, granted it is still August. But it is a "racetrack"!

Tad slow!!! My head almost exploded.

Really looks like a nice meet from the results. How the sport has grown since I ran. Nice to see.

The hypocrisy of the OHSAA related to this meet continues to blow me away.

They say the competitive season can't begin until August 20th, but they have their invitational on August 18th.

1. The idea was to not take money away from meets that were established. Imagine the numbers of teams that would go there instead of the local events held this coming week.

2. The race season gets under way at NTR next week and would not be as available for this meet.

The Lakota East gals looked like they had a dominating performance today. Are they one of the favorites for the team title this year?

I'm pretty sure Lakota East's top runner Danielle Horter is Dustin's sister. I'll be surprised if LE can put an end to Centerville's run of four straight state titles.

The only team with half a chance to beat Centerville would be Brunswick

Alyssa Wolf State 3200 Champ 10:27

Emily Bardwell 3200 10:50 4:57 1600 18:23 State Cross

Felicia Pasadyn XC 17:53 4:49. 1600 3200 10:30. Swimming State Champion and record holder. Was hurt during XC and didn’t compete during track. A big question mark

Nichole Gatten 18:31 XC

I don’t see a fifth close to those four runners but who knows.....they have a good middle school feeder system

More than likely not. They should qualify out of the regional. But remember not only Centerville but Ursuline and Beavercreek return a lot and beat them last year. Mason is down but always improves tremendously from week 1 to state.

There was actually 12 races. The results in the link are missing the last race, Boys open small DII/DIII which had 167 racers.

I went to ohsaa.org home page and clicked on results and the twelfth race is there which shows Maplewood winning the team title and 166 finishers. That would get the total over 2,000 at 2.022. http://live.finishtiming.com/#/resul...-xc/results/12.

Anyone know why Turpin girls got to run in the DII race which they won. http://live.finishtiming.com/#/resul...d-xc/results/7. They may be DII in football, but they are listed on swdab.org as running in the DI cross country races at VOA this year. http://swdab.org/Cross%20Country/201...%208-16-18.pdf

100% same question.

Sam Bush, arguably one of the top seniors this year as a XC runner and track runner along with Olivia Howell, ran the D2 race.

I was thinking it was a 100% coaching move.
Young team, they just wanted to get a race in and not get crushed by some of the perennial powers.

A couple of other smaller D1 schools ran down in D2 also:
Vandalia Butler and Big Walnut.

It wasn't a true D2 race. It was listed as open D1/D2, they put some of the smaller schools down with D2. They also put some of the smaller D2 schools with D3. Probably to balance out the numbers in each race.

Just saw the results from Upper Sandusky yesterday.
Mt. Gilead had quite the day in the boys race
They placed I through 5 in 16:35 to 16:47 for 15 points.
D3 State championship must be a possibility for them if this was a 5000m race

Very impressive run for them. The course there is mostly flat but does have lots of turns and the ground was quite soft from all the rain so it is on the faster side but there are many other courses that are faster.

If they are not the favorite they are one of the favorites along with Mcdonald and East Canton.

Unsure about the course. But the weather yesterday in Ohio was near perfect for racing. With the high temperatures and then a drop in not only the temperature but also humidity, most kids should improve drastically.

No reason to think Mt. Gilead wouldn't be in the hunt in DIII. It's a traditionally strong program, 6th in DIII last season, and the entire top 5 returns from last postseason.

Here's what those 5 guys have done at that Upper Sandusky meet the past few years:

Shipman - 18:06 in 2017, 16:35 in 2018, currently a sophomore
C. White - 17:40 in 2015, 17:10 in 2016, 17:17 in 2017, 16:40 in 2018, currently a senior
Dennis - 18:25 in 2016, 17:23 in 2017, 16:47 in 2018, currently a junior
K. White - 19:53 in 2015, 18:43 in 2016, 17:47 in 2017, 16:47 in 2018, currently a senior
Supplee - 18:37 in 2017, 16:47 in 2018, currently a junior
