Stuart Scott, ESPN Anchor, dies at age of 49

Quote:
Stuart Scott, a longtime anchor at ESPN, died Sunday morning at the age of 49.

Among the features of the new ESPN studio in Bristol is a wall of catchphrases made famous by on-air talent over the years. An amazing nine of them belong to one man -- from his signature "Boo-Yah!" to "As cool as the other side of the pillow" to "He must be the bus driver cuz he was takin' him to school."

That man is Stuart Scott, and his contributions to the sports lexicon are writ large. But they are only one aspect of his legacy. When he passed away, he left behind so much more. He inspired his colleagues with his sheer talent, his work ethic and his devotion to his daughters, Taelor, 19, and Sydni, 15. He defied convention and criticism to help bring this network into a new century. He spoke to the very athletes he was talking about with a flair and a style that ESPN president John Skipper says, "changed everything."

"He didn't just push the envelope," says sports radio host and former ESPN anchor Dan Patrick. "He bulldozed the envelope."

Scott was remembered through an outpouring of tributes by athletes, colleagues and fans on Twitter and statements from his alma mater, the University of North Carolina, which said that "his legacy will live on in many ways -- as a friend, a son, a father, a professional and forever, a Tar Heel," and President Barack Obama.

Not my favorite announcer. I found him annoying. Non the less a sad sad loss. Prayers to his family.

I agree with you. He tried to be more important than what he was reporting, so he was not one of my favorites either. Prayers to his family as well. Always a shame when anyone dies at an early age and leaves young ones behind

I enjoyed what he did and the way that he did it. I thought he was fun. His commentary reflected the braggadocio of his typical subject matter.

He seemed a little < once the glasses showed up. I now assume that corresponded with the onset of his illness, since his left eye looked a little odd behind them.

BOOYAH!!! and RIP Stewart Scott

I disagree with the sentiment on here. He made SC interesting and was pretty much solely responsible for making it popular with the younger generations.

Loved watching Sportscenter with Stuart Scott. Funny. Awesome catch phrases. Brought a youthful energy to the show. Made it different and made it his own. RIP. F*** cancer

+1, never liked SC when he was on and usually changed the channel when he was on on a certain night.

This is also true, but that's partly what I hate about SC and why I like the 11 or 2am version, because it's on when kids are not awake and is more geared towards adults.

RIP though

I wouldn't say I was a fan, but he was a comfortable voice to hear on the tv. I'll miss hearing him. Best wishes to his family.

Loved watching sportscenter in the 90s with Stuart, Dan Patrick, Kenny Mayne, Rich Eisen, and company.

Stuart Scott for me will forever be linked to Ken Griffey Jr. highlights.
