My 2017 All-Ohio NFL Team

About 215 out of 100,000 high school seniors who play football every year make it to the NFL (roughly 0.2%). The national ratio of NFL players to US citizens is 1 out of 184,546. As of September of 2017, Ohio ranked 5th in the country for active NFL players with 82 behind Florida (212), California (191), Texas (179), and Georgia (120). As a diehard supporter of Warren G. Harding High School, I'm glad to say that I've seen many great athletes take their talents to the highest level and many of you can say the same about not only your fellow alumni, but your opposition as well.

Nice list Worm.

I think Ohio could go about 3 deep on the OL. I'd swap Ryan Kelly for Taylor Decker to get a Tackle in the lineup - plus I think he's better at this point in career.

Wide Receiver is shockingly thin, but I think you could bump Latimer for Roger Lewis.

Defensive line is another soft spot. Your picks are as good as any, but probably interchangeable with some guys like Tank Carradine, Taco Charlton, Whitney Mercilus, Willie Henry, Adolphus Washington.

Worm, no love for the Hudson Explorers? Brian Winters OG with Jets and Ben Gedeon, LB Vikings. You still sore over that 2016 Regional Final?

You want him to list a part time starter with 37 tackles over a Pro Bowler (Kuechly)? Or, a guy with 144 tackles for a playoff team (Brown)? Or, a guy with 94 tackles, 3 sacks, and 2 FF (Lee)?

But, yeah, it's because of that 2016 Regional Final.

1. Ohio has some nice guys at OL. I've been a fan of Decker's since he was at Vandalia Butler, but I leaned more towards the guys with the most experience. I could be off, but Decker is definitely on his way.

2. Yeah we're thin at WR. A few years back, that wasn't the case.

3. Whitney Mercilus spent most of the season injured (only played 5 games), which is the main reason why I left him off. Sadly, that seemed to be a trend in Houston this season. Same goes for John Simon in Indianapolis (also a former Texan), but linebacker was crowded with guys with 80+ tackles. I tried to base this off of this year instead of their career. Hence, no James Harrison.

HA! Cats here in Warren often try to say that "Harding doesn't play anybody anymore." When that happens, one of the examples that I use the most is that just a few years ago, Hudson knocked both Mentor & St. Ignatius out of the D1 playoffs. Far from a "nobody." I show Hudson more "love" to my own people than you'll ever know and if you remember back to last year's draft, I was one of the main ones on here reporting when Ohio guys were getting drafted. Gedeon is on his way, especially with a surging Vikings squad, but he has to continue building his resume to be on the list with my selections. Winters would've been a solid choice though, though he may have fallen just short of my selections experience wise. It's hard to judge OL, so consistency is where I drew the line.

How about Steelers’ FB Rosie Nix from Reynoldsburg? He’s having a pretty good season.

He certainly is, but Juszczyk made the Pro Bowl at fullback!

A couple other OL's, both from Kettering Alter:

At the beginning of his career...
Joe Thuney, OG, starting left guard for the New England Patriots, All-Rookie team last year. Played the highest number of snaps for any Patriot last year. Super Bowl champion.

At the end of his career...
Nick Mangold, 7-time All-Pro at Center (currently a free agent?).

Mangold was a beast! Was shocked when the Jets let him go.

If this was an "All Century/Decade team," Mangold would be one of my top choices.

Boone is a monster! Been it from day 1 and easily one of the best players that I've ever seen WGH play against. After a solid 6 year run in San Francisco to start his career, he's played for two other teams the last two seasons. Again, it's hard to judge linemen from a distance, but the "instability" made me look elsewhere. It was close between him, Decker, and Norwell.

Lots of quality guys for sure.

From Worm's list in post 1, who is your Offensive POY, Defensive POY and Rookie of the year?

I'll say Bell for Offense POY
Kuechly for Def POY
Lattimore for ROY

Great thread Worm!

I'd say bump Latimer for Braxton Miller. Pretty similar numbers. Braxton was only healthy in 8 games though.
