GlenOak vs Solon

I hope the Eagles still have it in them after that heart braker against Perry. They've been killed by injuries all year and have fought back with the heart of champions. We will be playing another very good team but it wouldn't surprise me if the Eagles show up and play with a chip on their shoulder and make things interesting. GO EAGLES

I agree and think GlenOak wins a low scoring close one.

Glenoak will come to play and represent better than their 6-4 record, but Solon is just better. They will wear GO down in the second half on both sides of the ball. Solon is much improved since their loss to Stow.

Solon 31
Glenoak 17

GlenOak's 2016 schedule and results:

Woodside (VA) - W - 42-17
Massillon - L - 21-24
Buchtel - W - 13-12
Hoover - W - 28-0
Green - W - 49-20
Jackson - L - 10- 35
St. Ignatius - L - 17-34
McKinley - W - 19-2
Lake - W - 35-28
Perry - L - 24-30

Solon's 2016 schedule and results:

Aurora - W - 36-6
Twinsburg - W - 43-7
Stow - L - 10-13
Brunswick - W - 53-21
Euclid - W - 33-13
Mentor - W - 37-8
Strongsville - W - 30-0
Elyria - W - 46-28
Shaker Heights - W - 43-6
Medina - W - 51-43

For what it's worth, Drew Pasteur has Solon beating GlenOak by 18. CalPreps has the Comets winning, 31-17 on a neutral field. This one's at Solon's Stewart Field.

I know what you're thinking. CalPreps and Drew Pasteur aren't always right. I'm just laying the information out there. Make of it what you will.

He is probably also aware of the slew of injuries that GlenOak has dealt with this season.

I would agree that Solon is the team favored to win, but I wouldn't count GlenOak out. The Solon loss to Stow and their close game against Medina tells me that GlenOak can win this game.

I've seen both teams, and this is an interesting draw. Solon has ridiculous team speed, and their big play ability is something special. That being said, Glen Oak is a team that they won't simply outrun as a team. I believe this could be a very close game, if the Glen Oak of the McKinley or first 2 1/2 quarters of Perry game is the one we see. Two well coached teams going at it.

Solon pulls away late (could be last couple possessions decides it)

If you think that Medina isn't a formidable opponent for any team, then you are seriously misinformed.

I don't think her/his point was to criticize Medina. I think it was more to say that Solon is good, but still beatable.

I still say,

Solon 31
Glenoak 17

Meta, you seem just a little upset when someone has the opinion that GlenOak has a chance, if I'm reading this wrong I'm sorry. The main reason I give the Eagles a shot is the schedule they played. GlenOak has lost 5 or 6 starters because of injury but I still give them a punchers chance. Looking forward to a great night of football and maybe we can run into each other. GO EAGLES.

I saw Solon in week one and they were a well oiled machine from the opening kick off. That day I said they will have a deep playoff run this year.

Solon by at least two scores

Five turnovers and had the ball multiple times past midfield and could only put up 19 points. eerily similar to MCK's performance last week vs Jackson. MCK and GlenOak have anemic, vanilla offenses. They both rely too much on the big play. MCK staff needs to run the ball like they did in the beginning of the 3rd quarter and quit putting #18 in positions that don't work to his strengths. MCK has too many guys who could tote the rock like #9 does for GO. They both don't get out of the 1st round of playoffs, if they get in.
Both of these teams got in but don't deserve to be in the playoffs. As I said in a previous post they both have impotent offenses that rely on the big play. At playoff time disciplined, well coached teams take those away.

GlenOak - Had to win in last 40 seconds against Lake. Outscored by Perry 27 points in the 4th Quarter with a shared Fed Championship on the line? That's a hard emotional loss to recover from right before the playoffs and should have never happened. GlenOak historically does not put teams away, they play not to lose, tighten up and lose. Scored 10 points in the second half against a Perry team they should have put 40 on? Complain about your numbers when the two teams you struggled against are the smaller schools in your league? You still had 50 varsity players dressed. At the same time quoted in the paper saying we don't beg kids to come out for football. Maybe you should.

Mck - Should employ a 2 QB system and put Robinson at TE sometimes. Keep Corner with Lewis in the backfield. Both teams need to get out of running the primarily the spread, they don't throw or catch well enough to run it effectively. Run elements of the read option but line up in power I, run the ball, throw to TE and backs out of the backfield and WR but use the boundaries to protect the QB. Quit throwing to the flat and sideline to sideline. Pattern game after Nebraska when they had Tommy Frazier or Ohio State when they had Troy Smith. Injuries or not both these teams have more than enough talent to make deep runs in the playoffs year in and out. They just don't have the coaching talent to make deep runs.

As long as Reardon and Garcia are coaching any team they play has a chance to win the game.

I believe that this year's Solon team is about on a par with Mentor's 2014 team, which played GlenOak in the second round that year. I haven't seen GlenOak in person this year but I have seen four of their opponents live (St. Ignatius, Buchtel, McKinley and Jackson). I'm impressed by the score of their St. Ignatius game. I know that GlenOak hung around for about 2 1/2 quarters in that game. Buchtel didn't look real good when I saw them, so the fact that GlenOak only beat them by one suggests that they're probably inconsistent; very good one week, just average the next.

Iggy 34

GlenOak 17

It was 27-17 in the 4th quarter.

And GlenOak was with out there first string QB.

GlenOak is ALOT better with there first string QB who can both run and throw very good.

Well they got there 1st string QB back!

Our QB broke his collar bone the last play of the half against Massillon, we played 5 1/2 games with our 3rd stringer including the Iggy game. Our #1 QB has been back since the McK. game. Our line has been consistently good the whole year and that gives me hope that we will be very competitive Friday night.
