Waite D-3 District Rankings (Off-Season #4)

I love doing these rankings, but as it has been pointed out before, they are just for fun. To any wrestlers who read these and feel that they are ranked too low, you may be right.
I am bound to be wrong on many of the rankings, but fortunately they have absolutely no impact on how anyone will finish at any tournament this season or any other year.

I started moving wrestlers up and down from their previous yearís weights. The new weights are partially based off of where theyíve been wrestling in the off season, though a lot of it is pure guesswork at this time.
Please let me know if anyone has inside information about new weights, schools, or wrestlers that they think should be added.

Iíve tried shifting the wrestlers around from schools that changed divisions. Please let me know if any are wrong, or if Iím forgetting any schools/wrestlers.

* = unsure about participation

-The schools of the incoming freshmen are based off of the previous Yappi thread. Please let me know if any are wrong or have changed.

106-
1. Oscar Sanchez- Genoa (1st state)
2. Casey Barnett- (Milan) Edison (4th middle school state)
3. Zack Mattin- Delta (1st middle school state)
4. Kole Freeman Ė Hopewell-Loudon (6th middle school state)
5. Aidan McAlexander- Antwerp
6. Dylan Collins- Gibsonburg
7. Owen Karcher- Cory-Rawson
8. Will Blevins- St. Mary C.C.

I moved Sanchez down for the time being given the fact that heís registered for Super 32 at this weight. This could be a loaded weight-class if Sanchez does indeed stay put.

113-
1. Ray Adams- (Milan) Edison (7th state)
2. Zack Schaller Ė Swanton (6th district)
3. Antonio Lecki- (Millbury) Lake
4. Brandon Hahn Ė Eastwood (8th middle school state)
5. Devin DíEmilio- Genoa
6. Brett Sandwisch- Woodmore
7. Dawson Liechty- Archbold
8. Jorge Gabriel- South Central

DíEmilio made the round of 12 at the middle school state tournament last year. Iíve inserted him into this weight-class assuming that the rest of the Genoa lightweights are at the class that they are registered for Super 32.

120-
1. Julian Sanchez- Genoa (2nd, 6th state)
2. Dylan Burns- (Milan) Edison (4th, 5th state)
3. Cameron Dickman- Oak Harbor (7th state)
4. Jordan Bowers- Tinora (SQ)
5. Clayton Eagle- (Ashland) Crestview (6th district 2016)
6. Trevor Schaller- Swanton (5th district, SQ 2016)
7. Will Roth- St. Mary C.C. (5th district)
8. Tyler Sandwisch- Woodmore (6th district)

I moved Sanchez down here given his registration at Super 32. I thought that it may have been a mistake initially, but it hasnít been changed, and I canít imagine that heíd wrestle Super 32 at 120 if he is planning on going 132. He could have always gone 126 for the event even though DíEmilio is there.

126-
1. Dylan DíEmilio- Genoa (1st, 1st state)
2. Cole Mattin- Delta (6th, 4th state)
3. Dakota Blanton- (Ashland) Crestview (SQ)
4. Gabe Mina-Vasquez- (Milan) Edison (6th district)
5. Noah Saunders- Swanton
6. Matthew Dewitz- Oak Harbor
7. Ashton Varney- Montpelier*
8. David Garcia- Gibsonburg

Saunders could make some noise at this weight after wrestling up at 138 last season. With Cook and Pachlhofer at 126 and 132 respectively, Saunders was bumped up to 138 where he still posted a win over state qualifier Nick Schneider and qualified for the district tournament.

132
1. Dusty Morgillo- Genoa (SQ)
2. Dylan Cook- Swanton (6th district)
3. Tyler Ramage- Western Reserve
4. Trent Werner- (Milan) Edison
5. Trent Johnson- (Ashland) Crestview
6. Tad Jensen- Oak Harbor
7. Andy Hinojosa- Tinora
8. Colton Falk- Northwood

138-
1. Austin Eick- Rossford (SQ)
2. Gage Pachlhofer- Swanton (SQ 2015)
3. Jacob Hahn- Eastwood (6th district)
4. David Patterson- N. Baltimore
5. Daniel Price- Mohawk (SQ 2016)
6. Corey Loera- Elmwood
7. Darry Endicott- Lakota
8. Andrew Muir- Genoa

Iím glad to hear that Pachlhofer is expected to be back in the line-up for Swanton. Last year, he missed the post season after posting wins over Hahn, Patterson, Dylan Hammond, and Max Neiling during the year.

145-
1. Chase Moore- Swanton (7th state, 8th state 2015)
2. Gavin Grime- Archbold (8th state)
3. Nate Vasquez- Fremont St. Joseph C.C.
4. Gunnar Endicott Ė Elmwood (5th middle school state)
5. Sam Meyer- St. Paul (6th district)
6. Jacob Dillon- McComb
7. Tyler Kay- Liberty Center
8. Isaiah Colvin- Cory-Rawson

Grime has been wrestling around 145 and 152 over the off-season, though he may still find his way down to 138 at some point. He started last year at 138 and even wrestled a few duals at 145 before eventually making his way down to 132.

152-
1. James Limongi- Genoa (1st state)
2. Hugo Villarreal- Gibsonburg (6th, 8th state)
3. Collin Mancuso- (Milan) Edison (6th district 2015)
4. Ryan Marvin- Swanton
5. Wayne Frey- Riverdale (6th district)
6. Tanner Rauch- Liberty Center
7. Christian Alcado- Elmwood
8. D.J. Slone- Willard

Limongi is registered for Super 32 at 152. That is the weight that he started last season at before moving up to 160 later in the year. His greatest test at the state tournament would likely be Gavin Stika at 152 or Colt Yinger at 160.

160-
1. Kevin Contos- Genoa (6th state)
2. Garrett Mapes- Oak Harbor (6th district)
3. Ty Hussar- Rossford (6th district 2016)
4. Tyler Ludwig- Van Buren (5th district)
5. Zach Leahey- Swanton
6. Trevor Franks- Lakota
7. Rico Lopez- Mohawk
8. Brody Degryse- Edgerton

Contos is a huge get here for Genoa. Itíll further cement their place as the state title favorites heading into the season.

170-
1. Connor Kwiat- Calvert (SQ)
2. Parker Brown- Mohawk (5th district, SQ 2016)
3. Xavier Beach- Genoa (5th district)
4. Brady Jaso- Gibsonburg
5. Austin Grubb- Montpelier
6. Jackson Hart- Fairview
7. Tim Meyer- Tinora
8. John-Mason Neer (Milan) Edison

Kwiat and Brown wrestled 3 times last season (as far as I could find) with Brown winning the first match-up 5-3. Kwiat posting the second 5-1, and Kwait claiming the third 2-1 in their go-to-state consolation semifinal at the district tournament.

182-
1. Sam Stoll- (Milan) Edison (7th, 4th state)
2. Bailey Mendoza- Gibsonburg (5th state)
3. Tanner May- Carey (6th state)
4. Crew Oberheim- Swanton (SQ)
5. Juan Castillo- Tinora
6. Jacob Laplante- Rossford
7. Seth Welch- Eastwood
8. Hunter Wymer- N. Baltimore*

I was surprised to see that Oberheim is expected to wrestle at 182 after qualifying for state at 195 last year. This weight looks to be the deeper of the two weight-classes at this district with the potential for 3 state placers returning. Although, it is possible that Stoll and May end up at 195.

195-
1. Dylan Hinton- Elmwood (SQ)
2. Dylan Rogers- Delta (6th district)
3. Jacob Sage- Oak Harbor (5th district)
4. Colton Campbell- (Ashland) Crestview
5. Joseph Shirley- Calvert (6th district)
6. Aiden Loveridge- Riverdale
7. Brock Martin- Seneca E.
8. Gabe Scott- Genoa

220-
1. Noah Price- (Fremont) St. Joseph C.C. (SQ)
2. Chris Kuhn- St. Maryís C.C. (SQ)
3. Caleb Carpenter- Liberty Center (SQ)
4. Seth Bailey- Plymouth
5. Trevor Short- Archbold
6. Greg Wilson- Swanton
7. Spencer Martin- Tinora
8. Zerich Magnall- Cory-Rawson

This weight looks like it could have 3 state qualifiers at the top, but after that it is fairly wide open. There are always wrestlers who make great strides in the off-season, especially upper-weights. If Wilson can reach the state tournament with a top 4 finish, he can play a huge part in Swantonís chances at a district title.

285-
1. Tommy Lytle- Swanton (SQ)
2. Lane Fry- (Ashland) Crestview
3. C.J. McCrimmon- St. Maryís C.C.
4. Noah Koch- Genoa
5. Dakota Klotz- Lakota
6. Nick Maury- Calvert
7. John Hill- Arcadia
8. Ethan Schlack- Carey

Teams:
1. Genoa
2. Swanton
3. (Milan) Edison
4. Oak Harbor
5. Gibsonburg
6. (Ashland) Crestview
7. Elmwood
8. Delta/Rossford

Swanton looks like it should have a very strong line-up from top to bottom, and I think having Moore back at 145 could be huge because it lets everyone from 152-170 wrestle at their preferred weight rather than bumping up.

Itís possible that Genoa could stay at the lighter weights until Ironman and then bump up from Oscar Sanchez through Morgillo. Dylan DíEmilio and Oscar Sanchez would be favorites at 113 and 132 respectively, and Julian Sanchez would become the title favorite at 126. It would also work Corey Welsh into the line-up at 106, if he can make the weight. This would help the team at the district level, and it should strengthen the teamís state title aspirations in Columbus. Of course, there is a distinct possibility that they do none of those things and win the team title regardless.

A special thanks to Boro Fan for all the insight into the weights of the wrestlers, Baumís Page and Jakeís Wrestling for all of the results that they provide, and to any of the other wrestling nerds that actually read these things.

I would add Carlton Roberts to list at 145/152 for Rossford.

Round of 12 in both styles at Fargo this summer. Was dealing with injuries last season. Dudes tough.

I heard a rumor that this district has moved to Defiance. Anyone else know if this is true or not?

High school I believe, but it could be the Smart Center at the high school.

Not sure I would understand that logic...a DII school hosting a DIII District while the host school of the DIII District's team travels somewhere else for the DII District?

Why would they not just host the DII District?

Coach R
The reason for Defiance hosting the D3 district is a combination of the size of their facility and their willingness to host. Defiance, did in fact want the D2 district, as did Norwalk. In fact, all the options the NWDAB were looking at for the D3 district were D2 schools. The NWDAB has not been able to secure a D3 school large enough and willing to host the D3 district, hence the reason the D3 district has most recently been held at Toledo Waite.

Parking aside Waite is an awesome venue. Defiance was pretty cramped for their holiday tournament 3 seasons ago. The Stroh Center in BG was great as well.
