Alliance D-2 District Rankings (Regular Season #1)

I love doing these rankings, but as it has been pointed out before, they are just for fun. To any wrestlers who read these and feel that they are ranked too low, you may be right.
I am bound to be wrong on many of the rankings, but fortunately they have absolutely no impact on how anyone will finish at any tournament this season or any other year.

I started moving wrestlers up and down from their previous yearís weights. The new weights are partially based off of where theyíve been wrestling in the off season, though a lot of it is pure guesswork at this time.
Please let me know if anyone has inside information about new weights, schools, or wrestlers that they think should be added.

Iíve tried shifting the wrestlers around from schools that changed divisions. Please let me know if any are wrong, or if Iím forgetting any schools/wrestlers.

* = unsure about participation

-The schools of the incoming freshmen are based off of the previous Yappi thread. Please let me know if any are wrong or have changed.

106-
1. Jacob Decatur- CVCA (1st, 6th state)
2. Garrett Lautzenheiser- Louisville (7th middle school state)
3. Kyle Rowan- Perry (5th district)
4. Jason Mayes- Jefferson
5. Ethan Fletcher Ė Canfield (8th middle school state)
6. Dierre Clayton- SVSM (8th middle school state 2016)
7. Hunter Miller- Canton S.
8. Jordan Najdusak- Hubbard

113-
1. Christian Wayt- West Branch (5th state)
2. Kyle Petersen- Aurora (SQ)
3. Jake Hamulak- Chardon
4. Ryan Jakubiak- Louisville
5. Tommy Frazier- Lake Catholic
6. Nick Began- Orange (6th district 2016)
7. Caden Scarbrough (6th middle school state)/Matthew Williams- CVCA
8. Sean Neff- Streetsboro (6th district)

Petersenís alpha is listed at 126, so itíll be worth keeping an eye on to see which weight he wrestles to start the season.

Another name to keep an eye on around this weight is former middle school state placer Jayden Morr who will be wrestling for Norton this season.

120-
1. Matt Cardello- CVCA (3rd, 7th, 8th state)
2. Dominic Carone- Streetsboro (2nd, 5th state)
3. Hunter Ryan- Lake Catholic (4th, 6th state)
4. Ed Suber- SVSM (7th state)
5. Luke Hewitt- Hoban (SQ)
6. Ron Angelilli- Canfield
7. Gaige Harrison- (Akron) Springfield
8. Isaac Beal- Coventry

126-
1. Jordan Decatur- CVCA (1st state)
2. Connor McCrone- Lake Catholic (5th, 4th state)
3. David Massey- Woodridge (6th state)
4. Joe Wright- Coventry (8th state)
5. Davin Rhoads- Louisville (2nd middle school state)
6. Hunter Olson- SVSM (SQ)
7. Alex DelGarbino- Girard (5th district)
8. Isaiah Smith- Field

Decatur and Massey have their alpha weights listed at 126, so Iíve dropped them down to this weight.
This could potentially produce and exciting state championship bout between defending state champions Decatur and Jordan Crace.

132-
1. Jack Gorman- Aurora (SQ, 8th state 2016)
2. Josh Baitt- Jefferson (5th district)
3. Miles Knuckles- Coventry
4. Brandon Reeves- Woodridge (6th district)
5. Kaleb Kiss- Norton (6th district)
6. Carter Mickley- Louisville
7. McCoy Watkins- Canfield
8. Sam Van Sickle- SVSM (7th middle school state)

It looks like former middle school state placer Joe Pennington will be wrestling for Alliance this season, and he could be at this weight-class.

138-
1. Luke Wymer- SVSM (4th state)
2. Andy Garr- Aurora (SQ 2016)
3. Parker Utley- Alliance (SQ)
4. Cole Bailey- Southeast (5th district 2016)
5. Justin West- CVCA (6th district, 6th district 2016)
6. Derek Cain- (Akron) Springfield
7. Mike Hamski- Jefferson
8. Jacob Peteritis- Perry

Westís alpha is listed at 145 while teammates (and former middle school state placers Pownall and Duvall are listed at 138, so itíll be worth keeping an eye on to see if either of the freshmen end up at 132.

145-
1. Bret Baker- Norton (7th state)
2. Jake Potok- SVSM (SQ)
3. Austin Pownall- CVCA (1st middle school state)
4. Skyler Curry- Alliance
5. Jeff Dunfee- Ravenna
6. Caiden Rodgers- Streetsboro
7. Dakota Ryan- Lake Cath.
8. Eric El-Hayek- Canfield

Curry is listed among the alphas for Alliance, so Iím assuming that heíll be wrestling again this season. He should further strengthen an already deep Alliance team.

152-
1. Jax Leonard- Louisville (8th state)
2. Isaac Yoho- Woodridge (SQ 2016)
3. Luke McKeon- Lake Catholic (SQ)
4. Dylan Miller- West Branch (SQ)
5. Jared Musci- SVSM (SQ)
6. Will McGhee- Aurora (5th district)
7. Ethan Ducca- Chardon (6th district)
8. Braylin Lightner- Alliance

I wasnít sure if Yoho would return to the mat this season, but heís listed at 152 among Woodridgeís alpha weights. Heíll add even more depth to what should be a quality weight class.

160-
1. Kevon Freeman - Lake Catholic (1st, 1st, 6th state)
2. David Johnson- SVSM
3. Quinton Kelley- Hoban (3rd state)
4. Anthony DíAlesio- Canfield (4th state)
5. Kaleb Dohse- Southeast (5th district)
6. Jamil Bannister- Girard (5th district)
7. Stefan Farian- Revere (6th district)
8. Trevor Mitch- Aurora

170-
1. Hank Carey- Streetsboro (SQ)
2. Peter Biery- West Branch
3. Zak Crissman- SVSM
4. Nick Crawford- Canfield
5. Cole Hivnor Ė Lake Catholic (1st middle school state)
6. Jack Rogan- (Akron) Springfield
7. Marcus Davis- Alliance
8. Austin Hinzman- Coventry

182-
1. David Crawford- Canfield (1st, 4th, 6th state)
2. Duce Johnson- Alliance (3rd state)
3. David Heath- SVSM (3rd state)
4. Spencer Robinson- Woodridge (SQ)
5. Kenny Marra Ė West Branch (1st middle school state)
6. Brent Paulus- Louisville
7. Clay Smock- Jefferson
8. Michael Belcik- Girard

195-
1. Dominic Cooper- Canfield (5th, 6th state)*
2. C.J. Williams- Norton (6th district)
3. Colin McNamara- Aurora
4. Anthony Ward- SVSM
5. Sam Eldridge- Chardon
6. Thomas McGee- Benedictine
7. Beckett Fant- Revere
8. Carlos Bach- Girard

Cooper is not listed among the alphas for Canfieldís team. However, there are a number of wrestlers who were on the football team that made the playoffs who were listed by name but not by certification weight.

220-
1. Brandon Matlock- Howland (4th state)
2. Tyler Stein- Canfield (SQ)
3. Breslin Walker- CVCA (SQ)
4. Nick Mason- Perry (5th district)
5. Ben Hornacek- Norton (6th district)
6. Chavion Young- Alliance
7. Louie Stecz- SVSM
8. Lucas Woolf- West Branch

Matlock moves down from heavyweight where he was 4th in the state last season. Heíll be the district favorite heading into the season.

285-
1. Jack DelGarbino- Girard (4th state)
2. Alex Leasure- Alliance (SQ)
3. Matthew Holman- CVCA (5th district)
4. Alan Christine- Conneaut
5. Austin Hindley- Woodridge (6th district)
6. Connor Franks- Tallmadge
7. Chris Julian- Howland
8. Mehki Reid- Canton S.

I bumped Julian up here with Matlock dropping to 220, but itís possible that he ends up at 195 where I would probably have him at #5 or 6 in the rankings.

Team:
1. SVSM
2. CVCA
3. Canfield
4. Lake Catholic
5. Aurora
6. Louisville
7. Alliance
8. West Branch/Woodridge

Some of the light and middle weights at this district look like they will be absolutely loaded, as they are currently constituted.
120 has 4 state placers and a state qualifier.
126 has 4 state placers, a state qualifier, a state alternate, and a middle school state finalist.
152 has a state placer, 4 state qualifiers, and 2 district placers.
160 has 3 state placers and 3 district placers.
182 has 3 top 3 finishers, a state qualifier, and a middle school state champ.

Boro has DíAlesio at 170, Nick Crawford at 195, and 2x state placer Cooper off of the squad for Canfield. If thatís the case, then it will drop their team score, though not enough for them to fall out of the #3 spot.

A special thanks to Boro Fan for all the insight into the weights of the wrestlers, Baumís Page and Jakeís Wrestling for all of the results that they provide, and to any of the other wrestling nerds that actually read these things.

Not to disrespect, but this district will be much tougher than the past 2 yrs. Just my humble opinion.

The addition of 2 former D1 teams makes this a much deeper district this year.

MUCH tougher than the last two years.

Canfield, Akron SVSM, Lake Catholic, and CVCA remain the anchor tenants
Alliance is senior laden this year
Aurora and Louisville are significant injections into the tournament (Just kid specific, I think Louisville benefits more from dropping to DII than Aurora does)
Woodridge is a very solid team caught in this cannibalistic district tournament
Chardon moving down adds two state level kids to the mix here, though at this DII district that might not be enough (it would be at the other three more than likely)

FYI, Benedictine and Cleveland Central Catholic moved to the Bay sectional and therefore to the NW District.

Alliance District

Can anyone confirm that Cloverleaf will now be feeding into the Alliance district? It looks like they will be at Canal Fulton Northwest HS sectional rather than at Bay/Brookside as in the past.

In the next 4 years Aurora will be just fine...with the 8th graders that have either already lived there or just moved in recently...Aurora will be really stacked and make this district even tougher.
