Also to point out, the VASJ Football account on twitter posted this picture last night teasing of what looks like a new football helmet design which will be interesting to see changing it up from what we are all used to the traditional white helmets.

Thought to share this, pretty cool to see the football team's twitter account post their helmet timeline. The Kill helmet wouldn't of went well with people in today's age lol. I posted the image as well. https://twitter.com/VASJFootball/sta...81707885150217

How did the Kill helmet even make it on to the field in 1965?

Pretty sure it was Gutbrod's idea when they played St.Ed's that year. There is a good pic in the Storming the Erie Shores book of the helmet in action.

So the players just wrote it out on their helmets? Not trying to be a hater but that looks like something a prison team would do. Maybe a little early then his time but maybe CatAlum can shed some light on this subject?

There is nothing wrong with questioning it. Definitely one of the most controversial helmets in the programs history but it was a time where PC was basically non existent.

Are the Vikings still using Euclid's home field? Wasn't there talk about a new, on-campus stadium?

As of right now, we are assuming we will still be calling DiBiasio Stadium home. We won't know for sure until the Athletic Department officially announces when the ground breaking happens

DiBiasio has one thing going for it: the world's best hot dogs. I had one last night at the girls' basketball districts.

That is true. The one thing I have to get when I'm over at Euclid.

Surprisingly the field was in good condition at season's end where the whole area in side the hashmarks would be dirt was still grass and at the Euclid playoff game vs Fitch I was stunned on how the field looked.

The 2016 Schedule is posted as of 2/25 via the OHSAA schedule website.
Week's 1 and 3 are yet to be filled but it is believed VASJ will face Kirtland for the 3rd straight year in Week 3 (not confirmed) as the Vikes will also likely begin the season with a home game as I'm sure Storey won't want his team to play back to back road games to start the year and the fact there are already 5 road games on the schedule.

The Vikes will have a pretty tough schedule this year by going out to Elyria to face an old NCL rival against Elyria Catholic in Week 2, face Shaw who beat us last year 7-0 (a game we should of won), take on Gilmour week 5 then start NCL play against an always tough Aquinas team at home, then going out to Bedford to play Trinity, then Valley Christian, then to travel out to Warren to take on defending NCL White Champs and Regional Finalist Warren JFk at Mollenkopf, then close out the year against rival Central Catholic at home.

It appears all of our listed home games are on Friday night's so far. I'll keep everyone posted when the entire schedule is filled.

The schedule is officially filled out. There are a few date changes but here it is

VASJ will open up at home against the University School Preppers in Week 1 and FINALLY we'll get to host the defending D-VI State Champion Kirtland Hornets in week 3. The Aquinas and CCC game's will be played on Saturday's instead of the Friday's they were originally posted for in Weeks 6 and 10.

With basketball season finally over, football season will be here before we know it. I'll add a poll on how the Vikes will finish this season. I believe this year they will return to the playoffs and build off of last season's 6-4 record and hope to keep everyone healthy. There are a quite a couple key losses due to graduation which is the loss of TE Jacob Stauffer and LB Kevin Mullin but I think the +1 year experience can make a difference, the only thing that killed them last year were the youthful mistakes they made in games against Shaw and Warren JFK. It should be a good year and it would be HUGE on a playoff perspective to knock off US, Elyria Catholic, and Kirtland in the 1st three games which 2-3 are at the friendly confines of Sparky DiBiasio Stadium.

Anyone been to the 2 scrimmages between Rhodes and Chagrin Falls last week? If so, how did the team look?

Wow- quite a tough schedule! I think the Vikes will finish 3rd. in the NCL White this year, behind JFK and STA. Best of luck this year (except against STA, LOL)!

I missed the scrimmage, but heard they did well. The question is are the Vikings good or is Harvey bad ? I was surprised to see some of the size of the offensive line. They should have a few pretty good skill players - but there is even less depth this year than in years past. The Vikings cannot afford ANY injuries or they will be in serious trouble. They need to win the games they are supposed to win (unlike last year) and try to steal a game from Elyria Catholic or Kirtland. I personally do not see them hanging with Kirtland this year either. The last two years were a massacre and this year may not be much better. The new uniforms look nice as does the blue helmets. I will be there to see things get kicked off this weekend - Good Luck and Go Vikings !!!!!

It's going to be a very long season for VASJ. The Vikings might not win an out of conference game this season as even the Shaw game looks in doubt. The defense is not good. There is no other way to decribe it. University just ran and passed at will. It's scary to think what EC and Kirtland will do to this squad. University is the weakest if the first three games. As of now Jerry Higgins is a one man team. I know it's only week one but I was not the least bit encouraged with what I saw. The Vikings have even less depth than they have had the last few years. I sure hope I'm wrong and this team surprises me, but I just don't see it. Dropping Euclid this year was a very smart move. Unfortunately VASJ just does not have the bodies depth or the talent to field a contending team year in and year out. The school may be growing enrollment wise but it's not transferring over to any sports except for basketball.

The enrollment gains are great but out of the 140 incoming freshman, in each of the last 2 years, only 50 or 60 are boys. We need to keep getting those girls but really reach out to boys to let them know the opportunities both academically and athletically. In the mean time, we have to be careful to schedule teams that are appropriate and not 450+ boys schools like US that have the depth we just don't have yet.
