"All-Ohio"

I just saw a track and field picture with "All-Ohio" below the individual's image.

Is that an official designation? If it is, what is the standard? Top 8 at the State Meet?

I've never paid much attention, but in XC it seems like there was All-Ohio and All-State designations depending on whether it was the state of Ohio or the coaches association providing the recognition.

I've got a lot of fuzzy thinking on this and am looking for some clarity.

I think the term "fuzzy" is very applicable. It all depends on who's doing the selecting and the qualifications for those selections.

I don't know if any official body designates it in Ohio, but as far as I'm concerned you make the podium(in T&F) you're All-Ohio. I think that's the way collegiate All-Americans are designated as well.

In track All-Ohio honors are earned by placing in the top 8 at the state meet.
In cross country to earn All-Ohio honors a runner must finish in the top 30 at the state meet. This past fall was the first time for the top 30 cut-off for cross country. It used to be that a runner had to be in the top 25 at the state meet to earn All-Ohio honors. I am not sure what year the OATCCC started awarding All-Ohio honors in track and cross country

On a side note, I find it appalling that some many of the lacrosse players have received All-American honors at the school where I coach. I counted six names on their wall for this honor. The strange thing is that the vast majority of them when they tried other sports did not excel at those other sports. Hmmm?

Did they go to Stanford or Ivy?
