Lancer,
Any truth to the rumor that the prelims will not be at LaSalle, but at Elder's PAC?

It will be tough for any team to beat the 2010 Lion's record win of 191.5 points out of a possible 274. That's a 69.9% batting average of the possible number of points they could've scored. That % is only exceeded by McAuley's 1984 win of 191 points out of a possible 264 at that time. The pole vault didn't exist then.

This is not a rumor. It is fact. Athletic Dept. at La Salle confirms it.

Elder is only hosting the prelims. The finals are still at UC. Elder didn't find out until a week ago that La Salle was double booked with other outdoor events going on the same day as the prelims and Elder graciously agreed to host the prelims.

The irony here is that Elder is hosting La Salle in a baseball game at the PAC on May 8,

Only one event for boys varsity will be conducted Wednesday, the 4 x 800 relay. Frosh and JV field will be Wednesday also, only varsity field is at UC Friday. Girls will have to run prelims because there are five teams, no prelims for any event in the boys because there are only four teams on all levels.

There is a rumor going around that Henry Young III , St. Xavier's top sprinter (10.90, 21.82, 49.38), has an injury, some say hamstring, others say quadriceps. Who knows if he runs this week?

Impressive, but there have been plenty of boys that have come along that could've broken that record. Ohio, for the most part, has trailed behind the rest of the US in numerous events over the years. I attribute that to too many schools vying for a very limited number of knowledgeable coaches that actually understand basic physiology, and particularly, applied track & field biomechanics. Also, changes in kids' home lives have vied for their attentions. Too many don't want to work hard enough in order to excel in their events. I just saw this video ( ) featuring interviews about what lead to Michael Carter's 81' 3 1/2" high school record in the shot put in 1979. 55 minute video, but the long-and-short of it is this: he worked damned hard. 80-100 puts a practice, followed by 60-80 discus throws. 3 times per week (Mon-Wed) before tapering for the weekend meet. Taught himself how to throw. Learn by massive repetitions. While I didn't do the same volume back in my day, I was regularly throwing 40-50 throws per session (discus) 4 times/week throughout much of the fall and spring. At 5-6, 154 lbs as a senior, I threw in the upper-140s, and had a warm-up at 157' at St. X my senior year summer. This was all without weight training. Mastering TECHNIQUE, acquired through shear repetition, is what technical events like the field events, is about. Same mastering of technique is required in the sprints and hurdles and relays. DRILL-DRILL-DRILL. There is NO substitute!

Pole Vault - 9' 6" Meet Record for Breana Devillier (Carroll)

Discus Throw - 121' 9" Meet Record for Julia Keller (Carroll)

400m Prelims - McNicholas' Jill Vogler (59.68) looks set to win her 2nd straight title and break the existing meet record of 59.22

300m Hurldes Prelims - C-J's Jazmyn Potts (46.32) looks to do the same with her prelim. She's close enough to give C-J alum Cierra Brown's 45.45 meet record a shot.

The meet you are referring to is now called the GCL COED. Trust me on this. They don't want any part of the GCLS or GGCL. They consider themselves a separate conference for any historical purposes. What you call Greater Catholic League Girls Small Schools doens't exist any more.

Thank you for the clarification. Should a separate document be created then?

Is there some hostility between them? From a historical perspective, the schools were all one until the early 90s. I remember them well when they held their league meet at Lockland HS back then.

It looks like the North South split took place beginning with the 1992 school year. When the Dayton schools came in (Carroll, Fenwich, Chamanide, Alter, there were three divisions (North, South, Central) until the Coed schools broke off into a separate conference (2014).

Yes. Just wondering if the document on the history of the league should be split now starting with the 2014 season? What do you think?

The GCL COED Girls' finals today saw several more records broken:

100mH - C-J's Jazmyn Potts ran a fast 14.60, breaking the previous best of 14.84. That is the fastest time ever time for both GCL-COED & GCLG schools.

100m - Freshman Jadyn Haywood (C-J) lowered Cat Humphries (McN) previous record (12.37) to 12.28.

4x200m - C-J's team of Jazymy Potts, Jayda Grant, Julia DiLoreto, and Meyah Haywood lowered the all-time best to 1:45.02. That's also the fastest time of a both COED & GCLG schools.

Look at how you do it for the district meets. Today there are two DI district meets where you list the records for the Mason district or the Ross district and everything they was called over the years. You don't list separate records for the Anderson district which is what the Mason district was called previously or how about the old Oxford district meet. You don't show separate records for them.

Just call the records now the Coed division records and what those team were called before like the GCL North or GCL Central shouldn't matter.

We were actually just talking about the GCL Coed records yesterday, and having this same discussion as to what the proper thing is to do. Do you know if the current COED records are from any current COED team dating back as far as they've competed in the GCL? Also, does anyone have a list of those records? Additionally, for the record, we (Carroll) would love it if all the GCL schools were still together for the League Meet. While we like the set up at Fenwick, and it has turned into a great atmosphere, we do miss having everyone together when it was at LaSalle. I still have former athletes talk about the old GCL meet and running under the lights on Friday night at LaSalle. It would be awesome to have something similar to the GWOC where they have Division Champions but also overall champions. It would give every school a chance to still win a Division Title but see how they stack up against the entire league.
