I know three meets where Ben Novak did not do his 15'2".
He won the district with a 14'6"then didn't get out of regional with a 13'0" for 5th place. Novak went on to valut 17'8" and was an all conference performer at UC. The last I heard he was coaching the vaulters at Wilmington College.

I have discovered something so utterly shocking about converting yard times to meters times, I am still shaking. I used to do it by proportion, but now there is a far simpler way. I took every metric distance in inches and divided it by every yard distance in inches and the result is exactly the same each time. I can't believe it. The magical answer is 0.9939. Every metric distance is 99.39% of its yards equivalent. Wow! I never knew it could be so simple. Seek Up was my inspiration when he mentioned a conversion factor in a prior post. I just never realized the same factor would work for all races. I thought there would be a different one for each distance. I'm going to have to go back throught and redo each conversion.

We need to wait a little while longer. Right now we're in the clean up stages. I want to change some of the conversions from yards to meters. Seek Up and I still want to find where some marks were done like Novak, Bird, Seitz, and Princeton's 4 X 200. If you want to email it, that's fine; but wait until we're satisfied with what we have. It shouldn't be too much longer.

im pretty sure novak was at the anderson classic, coach ray should be in, he should have the info form the invite for me today.

I also seem to recall Novak did his vault at the Anderson Invitational in 1994. I remember reading about it in the newspaper. I'm almost positive there was an article about the historic vault.

I'm not sure if the Anderson Inv. and the Anderson Classic are unique events, but I can tell you on 5-2-94 that Andreadis (sp?) of Anderson won the pole vault in a school and meet record 14' 7".

I know this doesn't mean a heck of a lot, but the 5-11-94 honor roll has Novak at 14' 7". The 5-18-94 honor roll has him at 15' 2". The District pole vault was on 5-16-94, but he only vaulted 14' 6". His league meet should have been on the 13th or so. What was his performance!?

Tuprin was in the Queen City American Conference in 1994.

It is well documented that Novak went 15'2" during 1994. Here is Turpin's school record online at this site:

There is also this mention of the record in the Vol. 2, No.5 (1995) issue of Tri-State Track & Field :

"Anderson's defending pole vault state champ, Jake Andreadis, highlighted the regional field events by clearing 15'3" (meet record) thus breaking the city record of 15'2" established last year by Turpin's Ben Novak."

I have now updated the open running events with conversions. Here are the changes.

100 - no changes because no yard times nor manual times

200 - Vic Cass goes to 21.84 from 21.81, Carl Ward goes from 21.91 to 21.94.

400 - Jim Schnur goes from 48.35 to 48.34, Carl Davis goes to 48.84, Thomas goes to 48.34, England goes to 49.04

800 - no changes

1600 - Reggie McAfee goes to 4:07.24

3200 - Dean Fulmer goes to 9:04.74, Denis Lunne goes to 9:12.04, Reggie MaAfee goes to 9:11.64, Dave Stanto goes to 9:15.44

Ben Novak's record vault of 15'2" was set on May 10, 1994, at the Queen City Conference meet hosted by Anderson. Jake Andreadis was 2nd at 14'6". This information comes courtesy of Andy Wolf, long time coach at Anderson.

We know that Eric Seitz didn't do his 6'9" in the state tournament.

District - 6'8" - 1st
Regional - 6'6" - 1st
State - 6'7" - 3rd

The honor roll of 5-22-98 shows him first at 6'10". I wonder if he did the " at the district meet and the Enquirer just didn't put it in, but his coach called it in for the honor roll with that ". He was also named DIII performer of the year by the Enquirer . I have added him to the high jump list at #6. All the ties for 6'9" now go to #7.

Based on the meet results I have, Lange jumped 6-10 at his district meet and Bostic jumped 24-2 at state. I have no problem including the higher/better marks found, but, at this point, we don't have meets for them. It would be incorrect to list District for Lange or State for Bostic for the "new" marks.

I thought you were getting your meet results out of The Cleveland Plain Dealer and The Enquirer . Do you have official district meet or state meet results from a source outside a newspaper? If not, why are you questioning putting in " or " . Remember how you made me do it for Quehl in the discus. Why the inconsistency here?

I wonder why he doesn't have a school for Calvin under the hurdles, but he does for the long jump. Is there an email address for him that we can ask him where he got it?

I noticed I didn't have the year down for Ian Fulton of Wyoming in the 300 hurdles on page ten. I have updated his tenth place position with the year 1992.

I'm not finding 1998 District results on Baum's page - I was looking at 2004 results and Lange holds the high jump record (which is listed above the event results).

I don't always rely on newspapers - I've learned they can be as incorrect as honor rolls. Lange holds the district record and they have fractions in some of the other events.
