Stark County Banter 2018 (2)

So here is the Top 5

1. Massillon - 106 game is history all need to move on
2. McKinley - charging into Massillon showdown
3. Hoover - surprise team of year
4. Perry - second surprise team of year
5. Marlington - new to the top 5

Unfortunately my Crusaders took it on chin at Jackson and that may have been final blow to our playoff hopes - but we still got 2 games to go!

And #1 game now IS McKinley - Perry GAME!

Massillon is waiting in the wings and we may get one of those Great McKinley/Massillon Showdowns like the olden days

Just not sure that I am ready to put Marlington into the top 5 in the entire county.
Shadow, are you putting them there because of their record, or do you really feel that they could beat Jackson, Lake or Central Catholic in a head to head match up?

Yea, I saw those scores also. Still not sure that comparing scores is the best way to determine who wins a head to head match-up.

My opinion yes Marlington could beat Jackson/Lake/ and I hate to say it CC.

Now- anybody could beat anybody but by hard facts Marlington is better than these 3 teams - in my opinion!

My Crusaders are up against it for 2018

And... Believe it our not, Louisville is NOT going to play dead for Massillon at Louisville!

Louisville will bring there lunch - we all know that!

And McK/Perry is going to be a sloberknocker!

Going back to Lake Win at Perry - that did not surprise me or anybody - Lake always has a dangerous team - always!

and... Perry lack of passing will kill them vs Pups

You have to be able to pass against swarming Pups team - they are too fast and yes I have watched them this year front and center

Pups will play man coverage on the 1 maybe 2 Perry receiver(s) - and play 8/9 in the box whole game - gets to 3rd and 7 Panthers are toast

Fair enough Shadow. I have not seen Marlington this year, so I was just curious why you ranked them in your top 5.

Sometimes teams get ranked by people/voters just because of their record.

I totally agree with you about how to defend Perry. I would have a corner on as many receivers as they have, and everyone else is in the box. If they are going to beat me, it will have to be 4-6 long pass plays, NOT 4-5 long, clock eating drives. Besides, the quicker they score, the quicker my offense gets the ball back, and we all know that Wakefield wants to limit how many possessions teams like Massillon, McKinley and Hoover get during the course of a game.

Is this a must win game for McKinley? Not in a playoff sense, but look at how the last several years have ended. They need to get some momentum going, to finish strong. A loss Friday would lead down the same path they've been on. They've been stuck in a rut, almost like Perry/Massillon is their achilles heel.

Sounds good on paper. Past performance says otherwise.

Perry has beaten McKinley 4 times in a row. The Panthers have thrown an average of only 6 passes per game and only gained 30 yards per game in the air in those games.

2017 6 of 10 54 yards
2016 4 of 5 41 yards
2015 2 of 4 27 yards
2014 1 of 5 8 yards

Agreed Mack, but this Pups team is better than those previous Pups teams, and this Perry team is not as good as those previous Perry teams. Would you agree?

With all due respect Shadow, this is Stark County thread #3.
#2 got shut down very quickly

As I see it right now top ten..........
Massillon
McKinley
Hoover
Perry
Jackson/Louisville
Lake/Marlington
Alliance
CCC

Big games for Marlington coming up with West Branch & Alliance.
They could host, be in the bottom tier, or completely out of the playoff picture depending on the outcome of these next two games.

Absolutely Marlington, but it is high school football. I'm sure the Warriors will come to play.

Absolutely - great win over Panthers - had to have a thread to give proper Props to Blue Streaks!

To my Tiger Friends who think they are going to eat Leopard for lunch - just make sure to buckle up your chin-straps! (but I do give Massillon props also for their sausage sandwich at concession stand - and pizza oven pizza)

While we are at it...

I highlighted McKinley QB from beginning of year - that young man is everything I thought he was - passing and running!

Perry vs McKinley still game of season - so far!

Mass
McK
Hoover

Not much else matters in the bigger divisions. In the lower divisions:

Marlington/Louisville
Sandy Valley
East Canton

Curious - can Perry make playoffs if they win last 2 games - or am I missing something?

Yes. And Massillon can miss the playoffs if they lose last 2. I'm sure some brainiac can list the % probability of either scenario.

If Massillon loses out, they are 100% in with a 99% chance of a home game.

If Perry wins out, they have a 4% chance to make it.

Wow - I am not debating your info - but if Perry goes 8-2 they only have a 4% chance to make playoffs?

Must be that new math stuff
