55 teams remain.

That number will be down to 40 later tonight.

Of the 32 teams, breakdown by conference:

Ohio Capital Conference: 7 teams
Greater Cleveland Conference: 5 teams
Independent: 3
Federal League: 3
GWOC: 3
Greater Miami Conference: 2
Greater Catholic League: 2
Lake Erie League: 1
North Coast League: 1
All-American Conference: 1
Central Catholic League: 1
Toledo City League: 1
Three Rivers Athletic Conference: 1
Eastern Cincinnati Conference: 1

The OCC is a 31 team super-league, so while it is still impressive to see them all over the Columbus district finals - some of that is because those teams make up a big percentage of the total pool of teams...and certainly make up the majority of the good basketball programs. In NEO, the GCC has 5 of their 8 teams in a district final. Two of them are playing each other and the rest are in different districts.

Excellent observation. Thanks for breaking that down.

I live downstate and unfamiliar with the neo leagues/conferences, who are the better Greater Cleveland Conference teams year in and year out?

Mentor is probably the most recognizable name. Shaker Heights, Solon, Medina, and Elyria are also GCC teams in district finals.

They clear the arena after each game. ODU seats only about 2500 people. They used to have the districts and regionals at the Fairgrounds Coliseum which sat about 5000 people but the Arnold festival took it over and their fees got too expensive. There are no mid-size arenas in Columbus.

Fizz,
Very Good job on the records of the teams in the Districts, but I feel there are a couple that are incorrect. I have been researching the last couple of weeks on this looking at websites in all areas of the state. The following are the few that I think need tweeked:
  • Avon - I have (18-5) at the beginning of the districts, and they had only one tournament game up to this point the most games that they could have played would have been 23. You have them at (19-5), which is 24 games, one over the amount they should have played at this point.
  • Massillon - I have them at (15-9). I follow this team and can guarantee you that this is correct. I live with in a mile of the high school.
  • Clayton Northmont - I have them at (19-4) at the beginning of the districts and at that point they only had one tournament game for a total of 23 games. You have them at (20-4) again one over the limit that they could have played.
  • Springfield - I have them at (21-3) at the beginning of the districts and at that point they had played two tournament games for a total of 24 games which they could have played. You have them at (20-3) I believe you are missing a win somewhere.
  • Xenia - I have them at (17-7) at the beginning of the districts and they had played two tournament games up to this point for a total of 24 possible games played. You have them at (17-6)
