2017 GWOC - NATIONAL EAST Thoughts

OK all, July will be here shortly. We have had some coaches leave, adjustments in players due to Grad. and transfers....

-How will this Conference do this year?
-Schedules (Strengths, Weakness, Open Games, etc)
-Who will make the playoffs?
-What Players to watch on each team?
- What does each team need to correct from last year?
- Normal Hopes and Dreams for your Favorite Team

Just wanted to start throwing the ball around!

Its just around the corner all.....

Hawk

I'm thinking
Wayne
Springfield
Centerville
Beavercreek
Fairmont
Although last 3 could finish in any order. Cville could be in trouble. We'll see.

I would think Centerville would be the top of the last 3 as I am thinking they have the most depth, but not sure they have any special kids. Fairmont will be much improved being in the system for second year but not sure if they have enough special talent to get wins. I don't know much about Creek but they seem to be going in the right direction. So basically the order of these 3 is a toss up to me. Anyone have any more indepth insight on these teams?

Centerville could go 4-6 with that schedule and enter GWOC play at 1-2. Fairmont is lucky to have WC and Milford. Guaranteed to double their wins from last year lol.

Hawk, Wayne has has the toughest schedule.

Not only do they have to play one of the top teams in PA in Pine Richland (in case you did not know they defeated Archbishop Wood last season), but one of the up and coming Columbus schools in Olentangy Liberty. That Canadian team is an all star academy team that only lost by a TD to Pickerington Central last year. They should be loaded. Then, in crossover games they have playoff teams from a year ago in Miamisburg and Trotwood as well as Northmont who should be much improved.

YES.... the week 3 game will cost Wayne. Football North plays an all US schedule and typically plays top teams. They are not an automatic win like all of the other Canadian teams but generally will not develop many Harbin points either. I am sure Wayne was desperate to get this game as many teams went running when Wayne came a knocking...

Pine Richland is a HUGE harbin point potential. They will likely win 8 games assuming Wayne can beat them.... my initial thinking is that Wayne will not win this game but of course I am hoping I am wrong. Olentangy Liberty is also a HUGE harbin game, they went 13-0 last season before losing to Iggy in the state semi's. Wayne will have to find a way to beat 1 of these teams. Region 3 is going to be tough as just about all the teams this year are capable of making the playoffs.

It is still way too early to know what Wayne will have this year or what other teams will bring....

Thanks Vamp. You hit the same things I was thinking based on looking at past schedules of the teams on Wayne's schedule. We at the Station (WSWO) plan at this point to go to the Pine-Richland game and broadcast from there if they let us. And of course we will cover all the rest of the games until its over.

I am trying to start generating as much information on ALL the teams I can so our Broadcast has some meat on the bone. Not just the Wayne schedule. BUT with that said... every year with High School it's a Reset in my book. Last year schedules and results can give an indication of where a team will go, but it is only 1 of many factors. That is what makes High School sports so interesting to me. Seeing how the teams re-create themselves and adjust during a season. Wayne has always seemed to be able to reset to a level of play and more important, player impact and commitment that is not the normal. This has to be credited with the Coaching staff and their work with the players on and off the field. I am always impressed with what the majority of the team leaders (SR.s and others) and how they seem to drive the team dynamics to be focused on each other and the team.

We are where we are every year at this point. What will Wayne, and its the same for most teams, look like with key players graduating, transferring or other issues that adjust the dynamics of a High School football team.

I see in Conference, Springfield as a tough game (as always). New players being added to the mix that bring even more talent.

Centerville will be tough because its Centerville. Not sure what the change in coaching will do there. Back to Run Left, Run Right, Run Center? Curious as to where their talent is going to influence the new coach and how the mix will generate their game plan. Will he adjust based on talent or come in with a locked down mind set?

Its just around the corner...As always will be an interesting year?

probably start off 3-0 again thanks to a cupcake opening schedule and then go 1-5 in the last six games like last year. I heard a couple of incoming sophomores transferred to Alter including a QB

I don't think it is unreasonable for Springfield to be undefeated going into the Wayne game. They have a lot of talent coming back and moving in. I think Wayne rolls this division.

The stadium at the Highschool has new turf too, the issue with moving the games to the high school has been discussed over an over , an the locals particularly on the south side of town overwhelming wants to keep it at Evans . I think playing at the high school would be more cost efficient and better overall, however I don't see that happening anytime in the near future.

Last year Creek could of been 8-2 or 7-3 if they didn't not shoot themselves in the foot with turnovers. If Creek can hold on to the ball they should be alright. They return several key offensive players including their fullback and QB. They maybe a sleeper this year.

Should have lost to Fairmont lol... had to win in OT. However, they did lose 3-4 games by 6 points or less. Not sure how they only beat Carroll 14-0. Carroll was awful last year.

I see a two horse race between Springfield and Wayne this year.

Centerville will be getting traction with a new coach.
Creek could have a solid year if they can hang on to the ball more.
Fairmont, que sera sera

The Wildcats have the POTENTIAL to be 8-0 before heading West on I-70 over to Huber Heights. Wayne may be too much again for them again this year, especially on the road.

It looks like it was a tight close game at halftime last year and then the Warriors put on the gas in the second half. Golden opportunity for Springfield to make a statement on the field as I would say this is the marquee opponent on their schedule.

It was a game all the way into the 4th quarter. Springfield was in redzone 3 or 4 times and got 0 points out of it. I think Wayne is still team to beat and look for Blue to have a big year.

What kind of Offense will Centerville run under the new coach? Did he bring his dad back in?

That is why it is called a rivalry. You never know how a team will show up in these games.

Carroll is gonna put down at least 55 on Creek. Its gonna be a good day for Will Severt if Jordan Williams is on em'. Also Fred Butts Will destroy Kaden W mentally and physically. Not a carroll homer but anyone with common sense knows its gonna be a sad night for creek

Lol. If you can only put 27 on stebbins I see you struggling to put 55 on Creek.

Creek had a better week 1 opponent and a much more convincing win.

Not the same City. Carroll is Technically Dayton although it is surrounded by Riverside.

Carroll will be lucky to come away with a win, but it is possible. Like HipToss said and I said before, anything can happen in a rivalry.

right about different city but on the same road a mile or 2 apart. Not gonna win by 55 but will be a very high scoring game on both sides. Those young men have a lot to prove and each team has friends on opposite teams and they want nothing more than to brag to their friends that they won on friday night

HipToss, I'm sure the Carroll kids will play hard. This will not be a high scoring game. Please refer to last years box score... Carroll rushed for -14 yards last year and had 49 yards of Total Offense.
Beavercreek will be fine

From what I heard they have a much different offensive plan. With Evan Howard coming out of the shadows finally, they will have a very good run game. And with some very strong young wide outs they have a wide array of options. I believe it will be a very good game

I am glad they renewed the rivalry. It was such a big game back in the 80's that we had Beat Carroll Jerseys and I played against a lot of my former friends and class mates. I expect a Creek win but in this rivalry you never know. My sophomore year we trounced them at their place 28-7. The next year we got beat at our place 13-7 by a fired up Patriot team led by Mark Norbut who had transferred to Carroll from Creek to play QB his senior year and the next year we beat them soundly at their place 24-7. The following year I think Creek pulled out a come from behind win at their place after being down by about 20 at the half. It is a great rivalry. Glad to see it still going.
