Pretty much concur, except the Trinity in CA is the best conference in the US. The GCL could probably make a case for #2.

GCL will come down to one game, LaSalle at St.X. I do believe the Bombers have more depth, better QB, and a size advantage, but LaSalle has more speed and a better overall defense. I think the Bombers probably win the game on their way to a second straight State Title, but LaSalle is probably going to win another D2 State Title this season.

Moeller has some players, but they do not have enough to compete with St.X or LaSalle.

Elder will give LaSalle a tough game and with a little luck might even be able to win. I also give Elder the advantage over Moeller.

I disagree 100% regarding your statement that they weren't even the best team on North Bend Row last year. They were when it mattered. They played a brutal schedule that got them post season prepared, missed their starting Qb for some games, and then peaked when it mattered. They were not only the best team in your area, they were the best team in the State of Ohio. And they have the trophy to prove it. That is a fact, not an opinion. And I have no skin in the game, but they proved it on the field weeks 11-15.

Ignatius at the Pit will be a tough game. I was at the Elder vs. Eds game, and Elder was totally outmatched. And (I think) Ignatius vs St. Eds will be a pretty close game. Tough call because Ed's played Elder near home, and Ignatius is playing at the Pit. Based on what I saw, I'll pick Ignatius to beat Elder. But not by a huge margin. I also saw an Eds team that has a lot of team speed compared to Elder. Not sure Ignatius has the same type of speed as St. Eds. Those are my thoughts!

Moeller rides the McBride tide against X. He is clearly the best in the GCL right now. Sixteen TDs in 4 games in a part time role. Big wide outs and tight ends. No disrespect to Wolfe.

Moeller takes care of business against LaSalle at home.

Moeller puts a beat down on Elder at the Pit.

So we will agree to disagree. Though I'm an X fan, LaSalle ran the table in the GCL (including a 55-14 beatdown of Moe), beat X head to head, then went on to win the D2 state title. LaSalle and X were very evenly matched, but LaSalle won the game and the GCL........ advantage LaSalle!

Put down the crack pipe, it is not a healthy habit. Moeller has been playing a bunch of cream puffs. But they are going 1-3 or 0-4 in conference play. They just aren't that good.

So are you predicting they win or lose when they play themselves?

LaSalle was better in the regular season last year but X got better later as they defeated Fairfield, Colerain, Sycamore, Pick Central, and Ignatius in the playoffs. I do not think that LaSalle would have beaten all 5 of those teams in a row as St. X did in the playoffs last year. I think St. X was better than LaSalle in the post season last year as X would have defeated LaSalle in the post season if they would have played. Of course, they could not play since LaSalle is in Div. II but St. X faced a tougher road to the state title and I am not sure that LaSalle could have beaten those 5 tough teams in a row. Both LaSalle and X deserve praise for their state titles and their accomplishments.

You make some very good points. Not sure what week the head to head game was, or who the home team was. But could be factors. But I will say that the path to winning the D1 State title is a tougher path than a D2 State title. I know St. X was peaking for sure, and I know LaSalle had a very tough game with Massillon Perry. And Perrycould not stack up with St. X. And for all I mentioned, I give St. X the edge.

You don't "really" know any of these things. If you say La Salle was anything less than #1 in the GCLS last year it's a blatant homer pick. They won the league by beating the other three teams and then won a state championship. X's ability to claim #1 in the GCL went away when they lost to La Salle week 7.

A much more interesting year would be something like 2012, where Moeller had two league losses but won state, X went 6-5 but went 3-0 in league (and their losses were to Colerain, Trinity, Eds, Ignatius, and Colerain again). That's an interesting year to debate to me.

No doubt X played out their @$$ on their playoff run to a state title last year.
Consider they played 5 games in the playoffs. And all of their last 4 playoff wins (including state championship game) required come from behind wins. And 3 of the last 4 games went into OT.

2016 D1 playoff run by X

Week 1 - beat Fairfield 35-14 (yawn)
Week 2 - down 23-7 to Colerain late 3rd quarter, blocked punt returned for TD ignites furious comeback, X wins in OT
Week 3 - down 28-14 to Sycamore late 4th quarter, score 2 TD's in final 3 minutes (thanks to an onside kick) to tie game and win in OT
Week 4 - down 27-26 late to Pick Central and kick game winning FG w 2 min left
Week 5 - down 10-0 at half to Iggy in state title game, win in OT

You can't make this stuff up!!!

So you noticed that also? Well done CardinalsFan!
And while I love to poke fun at your Cards, they're clearly one of the top 10 programs in the state over the past 25 years.

Also, I'd beg to differ with his "Moeller has been playing a bunch of cream puffs".
Louisville Trinity is ranked #1 in KY and Scott County is ranked #6 in KY. Not exactly cream puffs!

Except it was 2016 playoff run, but right PF if it was a season of Friday night lights the writers would be drug tested, down 16 ? How bout a blocked punt ? Yeah that's the ticket, FG with 2 left ? Blood and guts .

Locker room scene down 10 ? Clear eyes full heart can't lose ? OK gentleman can I take a sample of your hair please? ST X has exceeded the "living right" allotment

Thanks for the heads up on 2017/2016.

Friday Night Lights... "And let's have 'em down 14 with 3 minutes left vs Sycamore. Then score 2 TD's in final 3 minutes with an onside kick to send game into OT. Sure, that's believable!!!"

Team A beats Team B head to head
Team A wins conference undefeated
Team B finishes 2nd in conference.
Team A wins D2 state title
Team B wins D1 state title

Team B was better??? Really?
And I'm arguing against my own school. I'm simply trying to be objective.

Cincinnati ST. X will do fine in the running game. In the game against Indianapolis Cathedral I would guess the game plan coming into that game was to turn to the passing game quite often because (a.) Cathedral's secondary is the weakest part of their defense this year (b.) Cathedral's 3-5 defense is built to stop the run and they have a very good front 6. It was a smart game plan to attack the young secondary of the Cathedral Fighting Irish.

As for the Sophomore RB (Newman I believe was his name) for St. X getting blown up when he tried to block, he was trying to block some really good LB's for Cathedral. At 5'-7" 178 lbs he had a big task in front of him when called upon to try and block the very good Cathedral LB's. #11 Hugh Davis 6'-1" 215 lbs Senior is committed to Boston College, #7 Jackson Barrow 6'-1" 215 lbs Senior is committed to Toledo. #50 Richie Hagerty 6'-3" 213 lbs Junior and #46 Will Chapman 6'-0" 200 lbs Junior are starting to have interest from D-1 colleges. Newman will be fine, and I give total respect to any Sophomore who goes out there and does their best.

Random thoughts by the Pope........

1) St X Mothers Club will gather together before the X-Moe game for a group manicure/pedicure to be followed by a quick botox session prior to tailgating Friday.

2) Moeller football fans & parents will begin concealed-carry classes for all those attending games at Lockland Stadium.

3) LaSalle will be holding a ceremony to hang their first-ever GCL title banner at their stadium. The next GCL football title ceremony at LaSalle is slated for 2067.

4) A fundraiser has been set up by the homeless in Haiti to benefit Elder fans living in Price Hill. While the Haitians realize they are living in abject poverty with very little food, shelter, clothing or clean water, Haiti resident Chico summed it up best..... "of course living in Haiti sucks, but it sure beats the hell out of living in Price Hill"

5) GCL fundraiser has been established to benefit Colerain Mothers Club. Upon reaching our stated goal of $10,000 we will be gifting the Colerain Mothers Club a dozen new, heavy duty treadmills.

Moeller has some players, but they do not have enough to compete with St.X or LaSalle.

Elder will give LaSalle a tough game and with a little luck might even be able to win. I also give Elder the advantage over Moeller.
I'll be surprised if Elder ends up better than 5-5 this season. Maybe 4-6. They are not good at all. And their QB play has been awful. It's hard to believe they haven't made a change there. There is no way they can match up with X or LaSalle. Moeller is probably their best shot at winning another game outside of the Florida team they play who is apparently terrible.
