Watterson misses 51 yd FG as time expires. OT. Watterson had to rush FG kicker on field w 20 seconds left. QB took sack on 3rd down with no time outs left.

CVCA is moving in the right direction shown by early wins this year

Walsh going to the backup QB last night not only saved the game, it may save the season. Kid was a spark. It looked like Walsh was going to get running clocked at one point.

Kudos to the coaches for making the move. Not always easy benching a Senior QB Captain for an unproven Sophomore.

Congratulations, Warriors! It must be tough to motivate an 0-2 team to stay focused and stay in the game, but Beigie pulled it off. Sounds like maybe the backup QB was the answer.

Is it Cameron Mays? If so he is not from a traditional Walsh feeder.

Where is he from?

If he takes over now, that bodes well for next two year with a veteran QB.

He is from Garretsville. Thought he was going to go to Bennie's but ended up at Walsh.

It's unfortunate they did not start the kid sooner, they might have been able to pull one out against Mayfield.

Although it's looking slim, I will say after browsing through D2/R5, a strong 6-4 resume could qualify for the 8 seed this year. This leaves little room for error with a very tough schedule ahead. But the door is still open.

Thanks. If the coach sticks with hm, he'll be a fun one to watch develop.

How did he get away from Benedictine?

Really was an awesome game.

Watching the tides turn was interesting. It went from Walsh potentially being down 21-3 with no end in sight to a close game at halftime.

Wait Garrettsville? Who would make that drive daily? Did the coach have lunch with him? Is a booster paying his tuition? did the coach make him a promise about playing time. Why wouldn't he go to Garfield? Did a walsh coach retweet about him in junior high? is football driving the school?

Be careful walsh. you keep getting wins you might have to start answering these absurd questions.

One of those games with elation if you win, agony in defeat. After the fact you can enjoy it all, because you won!

Great win for Walsh, no doubt about it.

I have no clue how good St. Francis (NY) is; however, it just became sort of a must win for Walsh if they want to have thoughts of the playoffs.

After St. Francis (NY):

Perry (3-0)
Padua (3-0)
NDCL (3-0)
Hoban (2-1)
Bene (3-0)
Lake Catholic (2-1)

6-4 could get you win with wins over the right teams.

Wowzers! We went from a projected winless or 1 win season to 6-4 and making the playoffs, all based on a QB switch and one win.

To be fair, the QB change did change the whole dynamic of that 1 game. It was like watching two different football teams.

With Cameron Mayes the offense went from 1 dimensional to fully functioning.

I compare it to switching from Brock Osweiler (Veteran QB, slow, minimal accuracy, big arm) to Russell Wilson (Athletic, can run read option, can escape pocket, can throw on the run)

Obviously neither of these HS QB's compare in talent to those I name above - that is just the skill sets they posses. They are totally different in how they play the game.

As we have seen in the past with Walsh - being 1 dimensional (specifically only being able to run the football) has killed them. Opponents stack the box and force Walsh to throw, which they have not been able to do.

I am not saying they are a playoff team. Heck - they may not win more than 3 games, that schedule is brutal. But there is a path. Do I think they get there? No. But I do think they manage to win a few more games that I initially thought if this kid stays healthy and learns quickly. He got a nice dose of Varsity football last Friday. This isn't Junior Varsity anymore though.
