Mason 2 Moeller 0

First game of the year for Moeller. I think the nerves will get them.

Anderson 1 St. X 1

Pretty even match up. Expect the score line to indicate it.

St. I 0 St. X 1

Need a shocker. St. I is young. This may be a great opportunity for X at home to shock the state.

Summit 0 Cov Cath 2

Cov Cath is a perennial D1 power. Summit is not as deep as years past. Cov Cath is.

Beavercreek 2 Sycamore 2

This could be the game of the week. Two offensive powers up against each other.

Went to Moeller Mason game came away pretty impressed with Moeller and disappointed in Mason.
Moeller just outplayed Mason had more fire and just wanted it more. Mason had no one going to the ball just a lot of standing around watching. Lot of bad passes, and the middle of the field for Mason is a problem that they need to fix.
Refs were not very good they did miss a foul in the box and a hand ball in the box that would of gave Mason 2 more scoring opportunities.

Good win for Moeller.

Not the result expected. Makes Saturday's Anderson vs. Moeller game interesting.

Pretty accurate synopsis!
Moeller looks hungry. Has a good supporting cast to their starting XI. Fun to watch fellow CUP teammates go head to head. Yes, they wanted it more & Mason's playmakers were everywhere on the field trying to pick up the slack. They played a great first half & had chances. Frustrating to watch the front 4 run ragged because the mids are flatfooted & the back four look like they're on tape delay. They will have a growing pains all season.
...But can we all just take a moment to discuss the OFFICIATING?
The 2nd half of this match got VERY physical, frenetic and the refs were floundering. WHY is this the case EVERY YEAR? You got guys out there that can't even keep up with the pace of play, missing obvious calls & kids operating in 6th gear! Those old dogs are a HUUUUGE LIABILITY!

If Moe has anything left in the tank for Saturday night, watch out. Possibly ONLY, competitive non-conference match AHS bothered to schedule.
Definitely going to check it out!!

I have a slightly different take -- Mason controlled much of the first half with better possession, passing and crosses into the box (particularly from the right) They created some great opportunities. (including a point blank put back off the cross bar) Second half Moeller came out with more energy and fire and had the ball on their end much more. Mason looked disorganized and impatient. Mason did hit the post twice including a rip that hit the inside and bounced all the way to sideline in 2H. Still not sure how that one did not go in. Plus as you mention a potential foul and a definite handball in the box could have also been a game changer. Moeller GK made a couple of great saves as well.

Moeller has a good team with good depth and IMO is the favorite for the GCL. Plus have a key player coming back from injury. Mason just needs to get on the same page up front and get the midfield more involved in the offense. The pieces are there. Going to be a lot of tight games between the top 5 or 6 teams in Cincy. Nail bitters.

Good luck this weekend! Maybe we meet again in October.

I worry the officials react poorly to the student section jeers. (Ref u Suck probably not helpful) As the game goes on we seem to get the short end at home. Moellers second goal would not have happened if the Ref did not get in the way to give them the counter.

My frustration revolves around the ABILITY of these officials to do what the job demands. (yes, the crowds are animated & unfiltered) When a game begins to get chippy & they aren't PHYSICALLY keeping up with the action, the kids will continue to push the envelope. (Especially in tight matches) Crowds go ballistic, parents included. This is the best the OHSAA can give us?

As a Mason fan, I was definitely impressed with Moeller. Mason was the better team the first 15-20 minutes, but then Moeller became much more aggressive, and Mason seemed to flinch - they were slow to come to the ball, and lost a lot of 50/50 opportunities. By the 2nd half, Mason looked tired, which was surprising given the amount of substituting Reedy was doing. Moeller, on the other hand, seemed more energetic, even though they substituted less - I think at least 4-5 Moeller players played most, if not the entire game. The two Moeller goals were incredible - 20-30 yards out, perfectly placed in the upper 90.

Bottom line though - Mason had two shots off the woodwork, and should have had at least one PK. It was also a nice break for Moeller when the ref deflected the Mason pass in their end, which led to the Moeller counter and winning goal.

Reedy needs to light a fire under these guys, or they're going to lose more games. They don't have a Clark or Curran up front this year - goals might be hard to come by, especially against good teams.

Officiating was a mess they looked completely confused most of the game.
Game did get really physical almost dirty and officials did nothing to control it.

Mason did have control of the game until Moeller scored to tie the game and Mason seemed to get rattled.

I was at that game and i have a question as well. The Moeller coach was up and down those sidelines screaming at his kids and at times on the field of play and nothing from the refs.
What are the rules? If it was football he would have been flagged.
I appreciate his excitement but that did not seem right.
Plus the Moeller students behind the goalie harassing him was not very sportsmanlike.
Especially for a GCL school.

It was definitely getting chippy - from both sides. In the 2nd half, the Moeller fans were getting louder, the Moeller players more aggressive, and the Mason side getting more desperate.

Did you catch the play in the 2nd half, on the Mason sideline, where the Mason player was leaning/tugging on the Moeller player, who got frustrated, spun around, and swung on the Mason player? Don't know how the AR missed that. It's a good thing he didn't connect, or Moeller would have been down a man.
