Since the long running topic about the Hall of Fame Village construction got shut down, I'll post this here.

"Developers acquire another $2.2 million in property for HOF Village"

Somewhere someone said that OHSAA is not worried or do they care much about the maybe 1000 fans that buy tickets to all 7 games. You do realize that is like 7,000 people going to the games. After looking up in the gold seats on Sat I really doubt there were 1000 all game people. Years ago when I bought and went to all the games I can tell you without a doubt there were much more than a thousand.

Such small crowds does not warrant such a large stadium for these games. Some has gone as far as say, it takes away from the game.

So construction has slowed or stopped, and the hotel is behind schedule. Forget about the 2019/20 NFL Draft, I guess. I'm not surprised though. Stuart Lichter, head of IRG and the master developer of the HOF Village, has quite a few red flags around him.

In Louisiana, he got millions in public funding to start a car company:

https://www.crowdfundinsider.com/201...investigation/

Quote:
That was back in 2013. Today, not a single Elio vehicle has been produced falling far short of producing the much needed, and promised, jobs. Hiring was supposed to begin in early 2014 with the first vehicles rolling off the assembly line in June of that year.
Closer to home, his loan originator has accused him of fraud. Exact progress on the Hoover Project is under court seal:

https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/d...LigkncZUqI0%3D

Quote:
This case involves a massive fradulent scheme in which a number of parties systemically plotted together to divert $36 million raised from foreign investors through the U.S. Citizenship and Immigrant Service's ("USCIS") EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program ("EB-5 Program").

...

The $36,000,000 in EB-5 Loan Proceeds were earmarked by law and by contract solely for use on the Hoover Project yet none of it ever reached an MSI (Maple Street Investors) bank account. Nor is there any evidence to corroborate that the Loan Proceeds were used on the Hoover Project.
Was supposed to clean up and repurpose an old plant in California, much like at Hoover. After it was done, workers started getting seriously ill, with some believing the plant was never really cleaned up. Lichter sued them for libel and then lost because he refused to provide a deposition:

http://articles.latimes.com/2009/aug.../fi-ct-downey2

Quote:
Test results confirmed the presence of hexavalent chromium in the soils, the "Erin Brokovich" chemical that sickened people in the California town of Hinkley -- the presence of the chemical resulted in the lawsuit featured in that movie against Pacific Gas and Electric.
I'm not saying the HOF project will go like the above. Obviously IRG has completed projects successfully (well, at least a couple of them I guess). But a charitable interpretation of the company's practices would be that they buy slum properties with public funds, put in minimal effort at redevelopment and continually fall far behind, and aren't exactly top notch with their books. You can find less charitable interpretations elsewhere.

Bumping this thread since the other one got closed?

The Repository put out this today: http://www.cantonrep.com/news/201801...at-hof-village

$5.7 million in liens were filed against the HOF Village company, for unpaid construction bills. I guess we know the reason for the work stoppage.

Quote:
“Hall of Fame Village LLC is aware of the action taken due to outstanding compensation owed to some of the dedicated contractors. We continue to work diligently to finalize identified financing and remain confident that any issues will be resolved as soon as possible. We appreciate the patience of our partners as we navigate the unique challenges and complications that come with a project of this size. We also continue to focus on the exciting future that will change the landscape of this region for decades to come."

...

[Attorney] Hager said the filing of a mechanics’ lien isn’t uncommon for a multimillion-dollar development. It means there’s either an issue with money not flowing the way it should or with the quality of the work local subcontractors have performed.

“It’s a sign that there are some problems,” he said.
The Village is essentially admitting they can't pay the bills. There is an ongoing civil fraud case over the Hoover Project, with the allegation that $36 million is missing and never went towards renovating the old Hoover plant. That is the same developer and master company as at the HOF: Stuart Lichter of the Industrial Realty Group. Lichter/IRG bought the Hoover building 10 full years ago as of this month. It still is not done. Now there are unpaid bills at the HOF. They are also under investigation in Louisiana for similar failure to complete (or apparently even start) a project.

At this point I think it's fair to call into question whether or not the Village will ever be completed. This is supposedly a billion-dollar project and IRG's track record is abysmal...

I really hate to disagree with you, there are plenty of H.S. footballs to be seen there if that's what you meant. You were picking on another's grammar and then forgetting a word in your post? You're not good at this game, it's a foolish game anyway it's the internet and people do it any way they choose.

I closed the other thread just to get a response from the Massiloons, which of course worked. #clickbait

If Egret were being honest he would agree that on a project of this magnitude, such liens are not uncommon in these big money developments. I'm sure some of the projects he has worked on have at some time seen a lien attached some time during the development.

In today's Rep, these words of wisdom: "..such circumstances are often part of conducting business, especially when the time frame for completing a project is compressed so tightly."

And this" "A construction attorney with 30 years of experience - and zero invested interest in the massive Hall project - told Repository reporter Alison Matas that such liens are not uncommon in big dollar developments."

But for the Canton haters, I can translate: this is then end of the project. It will never happen. No more work will be done and nothing will ever be finished. This is a horrible mistake that will never be fixed. McKinley will have to cancel football, David Baker will resign and the HOF will move to Massillon."

The fact remains that Benson is the best HS stadium in Ohio and one of the best in the country. It is one of only two stadiums being considered to host the state finals and will host many other attractions in the years to come. Events will draw thousands of people to our area and the rising tide will lift other boats. It will be the largest income generator in Stark surpassing Aultman or Hoover in their prime.

Just an FYI - Don Taylor and Welty Construction are leading work on the stuff in question. But it doesn't matter since nothing will ever be finished

No, you closed it because that's what you do. You run off at the mouth like some kind of big shot and when you're outed....and you're ALWAYS outed, you either run to the mods, close a thread or disappear for a week or so.

Oh, and Egret and myself are the only two who mentioned you closing that thread....yeah, that's real "clickbait" there. Lol.
