I'm guessing 640AM will pick up either the Hoban game or the St V game.

They announced today that the game will be Hoban vs Avon and that due to a scheduling conflict with Kent State basketball, the game will be carried on WARF Fox Sports 1350-AM.

Does anyone know why the OHSAA cut such a poor media deal, with Spectrum Sports, and not STO, or most preferably Fox Sports Ohio?

It gives all championship events for all sports, and more specifically Football State Playoffs such a small stage to play on. Just seems like they are leaving $$$, in exposure & media buys on the table.

Not shocking that the OHSAA falls short, in a business sense.....

FoxSports owns STO. STO only wanted to do Cleveland area games primarily. FoxSports Ohio just is not all that interested. So TWC/Spectrum was next best, though some don't believe that. Ohio media is not stuctured for a perfect answer to the problem.

You know it would be nice if these games were available for viewing OUTSIDE of the state of Ohio. Not every fan of every team remains in the state and they could make more money if they did offer it.

An ESPN3 Concept would be very interesting. I don't know if the viewership is strong enough to support a deal like that with a national entity though. It's unfortunate that this is apparently the best option available.

thanx for the explanation eagle.

In this day and age of fast Internet I would think that an online media company could do the streaming of these playoff games. It wouldn't have to be one of the big conglomerates like ESPN but a smaller upstart company could not only provide this but also save money.

I have Spectrum so I love this....

With Spectrum there is no BS TV timeouts like Fox Sports and ESPN would have....

I understand that Spectrum is not available to everyone and maybe that could change by working a deal with other cable companies in areas where Spectrum is not available.

With Spectrum I get to watch over 10 games a week that they show including all but 1 semi final games this weekend.....

Thanks, I figured they'd pick up one of them. It should be streaming on IHeartRadio too.

Heck, even a deal with YouTube or something similar would work.

OHSAA wanted a media partner, not a video streaming website. The deal includes coverage of other sports. In order to sign up that kind of partner, that would require exclusive content, hence why it's not offered on pay-per-view currently.

Spectrum's coverage map shown pretty wide coverage across state. A deal with a network that spans providers would have been better, but absent that option (with acceptable terms), they got the deal they got.

My guide has not updated yet it still has TBA.... I have the Indiana and Michigan state title games being recorded at that time so if I am home in time (I will be at the Wayne b-ball scrimmage at 6 PM) I will watch one game on my other TV (Colerain game) and stream another game (Mentor) at the same time....

I like watching HS games from other states. I recently saw playoff games from New Hampshire and Delaware... as well as seeing the big school state final from Wisconsin as Kimberly won their 70th straight game. Honestly, Kimberly would be middle of the pack in D1 in Ohio. We have amazing football here but then when I check out some playoff games from the southern section in California I am thinking these schools would smoke Ohio......

That's the neat part about Spectrum, if you have Spectrum, you can stream these games no matter what state you have Spectrum in. I'm in FL and here's the link I use:

http://www.myspectrumsports.com/oh/northeastohio

Once on page, I pick the game I want to watch, it will ask for my Spectrum login, put it in and you have access. Real easy to do.

IF you have Spectrum that's the key of course. I don't have it here and frankly it's not even an option so my point stands.

I see other games being streamed on the Internet if you are a larger school with a long winning history but for those smaller schools in a much smaller area that's not even an option.

If you have Time Warner Cable, they are affiliated with Spectrum and I'm pretty sure you can login using your TWC acct.

Nope don't have it. My choices down in these parts are AT&T or Comcast.

I suggest you complain, both are far inferior, that's just sad, kind of like the "Middle Ages" of cable tv. If you have Comcast, you might be able to login thru that, I'm not sure but I believe they are also an affiliate of Spectrum and TWC, I know for sure that AT&T isn't.
