Winless Teams in 2017

Here's the cast of the poor teams that went the entire season without a win.
Surprised by some of them as I recognize them from having some recent success, while I am not surprised by others (e.g. Akron North) that have been down for some time. God bless the kids who kept showing up and playing hard.

Groveport Madison
Cincinnati Oak Hills
Cuyahoga Falls
Tiffin Columbian
Westlake
Akron North
Cleveland Lincoln West
Mansfield Madison Comprehensive
Toledo Rogers

Ditto. Hard to stick it out for an entire season when things aren't going well.

Fisher Catholic of course had to forfeit all 4 of its victories

The most shocking ones on the list to me are Westlake who made the 2nd round of the playoffs last year (must've graduated EVERYTHING) and Bexley who is one of the larger schools in its division of the MSL. At least Westlake had a few close calls (lost by 3 in week 8, lost in OT in week 9), but Bexley's closest loss was 16 pts.

2 years ago we were 0-10, followed that up with a 1-9 season. This year 7-3 with a lot of talent coming back for next year. These teams can turn it around with the right coach and kids that will work hard.

Previous popular Bexley coach resigned unexpectedly to spend time with family and lots of good players graduated. Sometimes it takes the new guy some time to click.

You are obviously correct on Akron North.

Akron North, Buckeye Local, River View, West Muskingum, Finneytown, Toledo Christian, Federal Hocking, and Jefferson Township went 0-10 in 2016.

Akron North, Buckeye Local, Minerva, Finneytown (0-9 in 2015), and Federal Hocking also finished winless in 2015.

Current losing streaks:
Finneytown: 33
Akron North and Buckeye Local: 32
Federal Hocking: 31
Minerva: 30

Minerva probably would've gotten a win this year if they had renewed with St. Thomas Aquinas. Even so, Minerva had opportunities to win this year. They lost by 7 in week 1, lost in 3 OTs in week 2, and lost in OT in week 10.

While not winless in a row, leetonia went 1-9 each year from 14-16. So the seniors on this years 0-10 squad had a 3-37 high school career. The 3 wins were over 0-9 Lowellville, 1-9 Collinwood, and 0-7 Ashtabula St John.

Dad to say Akron North May never win another game as they now exist. Thinking Akron City Schools will either close the school or do away with sports programs. Maybe keep soccer.

Field's closest game was indeed 22 points. Unfortunately, in the last 7 weeks their closest loss was 40 points. This is the kind of thing that happens with a very young lineup and playing under the 3rd head coach in 3 years.
They've got a nice sophomore class so hopefully the Falcons will get some wins next year.

I feel sorry for the kids. I wonder how many of these coaches are retired in place just waiting to collect their pension.

Loudonville's fall off is pretty remarkable. In 2014 they were a top 5 team in D6 and walloped everyone until falling in a hard fought game to Kirtland in week 13. 2015 they fell to 5-5, then 1-9 and 0-10 in 2016 and 17.

Loudonville was a state semifinalist in 1983 and 1988. The '83 team lost to Orrville. I don't know much more about that team other than Canton CC played them in week 7 and lost 11-10. The '88 Loudonville team employed the "run and shoot" offense but encountered a defensive buzzsaw in Canton CC. CCC won 46-0 and beat Versailles the following week to win their 1st state title.

I saw Loudonville play from 2014-2016 and am not terribly surprised to see Loudonville struggle right now. Their 2014 team was senior laden. The 2015 team suffered some key injuries to a couple seniors who were starters on the 2014 team. The 2016 team was very young, undersized, and unathletic. I can only assume that 2017 is an extension of that season. They joined the PAC for football only and are the smallest school in that league by a fair margin.

The head coach left for Mount Vernon HS after the 2014 season (rumor has it he was originally offered the Hoover job but turned it down) and then left Mount Vernon after 1 year to take the Wadsworth job.

As you likely know well from being in Tuscarawas County, Newcomerstown has been battling low numbers this year. I would wager that many of the DVI and DVII teams on the winless list are plagued by low numbers. Additionally, Newcomerstown's desire to play in the larger division (in order to play all the adjacent schools) might all but ensure that the Trojans do not produce many winning seasons going forward.

There might be a link there. Are the baseball players focusing solely on baseball, i.e. playing "Fall Ball?"

I remember Mingo Junction had a good year with a stud running back. Problem was, the coach spent the entire year running up scores and never playing the underclassmen. Next year, 0-10. Year 3 of this cycle, he was putting out pre-game pep letters about how the opponents ran up the scores the previous year. Lol. Feast or famine, always.

At least Ohio schools aren't anywhere close to this: Diamond Hill-Jarvis is at 75 straight.

http://www.star-telegram.com/sports/...181117016.html

75 games and counting after this past Friday. Only 7 more to tie the national record. PF-PA is currently 47-401, which explains the 8 straight losses to open the season. They have 4-4 Mineral Wells and 3-5 Springtown to finish out this season.

Bexley actually dropped from 3 to 4 this year, had a new coach, graduated a boatload of talented seniors and had a total of 44 kids, 9th-12th, on the roster. Not much in the cupboard the next few years.

How can you have that many kids to pull from and keep putting horrible teams on the football field year after year?
