Have to agree with you on this one.
This won't be the "gimme" game of the past few years.
Liberty has plenty of team speed and is playing at home.
Definitely cannot take this one for granted.
Actually any of them.
Any idea on what Liberty has back this year?

They return their QB who is a good athlete but a smaller kid. A few good hits and he will be done. Like last season. Liberty actually chirped up at the end of the game last season vs the freshmen team though it was amusing.

All you younger guys are really lucky to have all the technology that we have these days.
If we wanted to view anything from those dinosaur days, we'd have to find someone out there with access to the 8mm films. Then have them converted.
I have an MP3 of a broadcast of the regional final in girls basketball from 78.
Really poor quality. (Was at the game in Canton, Jim Campbell was the announcer)
To have this MP3, I had to take an old 8-track (going way back), then have it converted to CD. 8-track had to be fixed first because of damage and 20+ years sitting in a garage.
Was then able to take from CD and convert to MP3.
Long story short. I can sit in my den and listen to Struthers football or follow Twitter for pretty up-to-date scores. Can also text people who are actually at the game.
Can watch game highlights on the internet shortly after the game.
We're just very lucky to live in the world now as it is and what it allows us to do.
There still is stuff out there from the past.
Would just need to find out who has it and how to convert it.
Anyway, Go Cats!

Can you believe Fitch brought 28 buses to Struthers in 68?
Cats won that 28-0.
Mooney game week two at South was 7-6.
Best game of the year.
14,000 at the game.
Won't see those crowds again.
Two of the best Struthers teams ever, IMHO.

I did.
Just haven't researched enough about Boardman and Fitch.
Both have had some very good teams over the year.
Was thinking of the Mooney 73 team.
Think that may have been the team that won State over WWR in Akron.
30,000+ at that game.

Who?!? I thought this was very far fetched but it looks like he has a few d2 offers and at maybe an Air force offer?

QUOTE=Huge Ted;6789540]Any of you Struthers fans go back far enough to have seen those undefeated teams in '67 and '68?[/QUOTE]
I played against the '68 team. I think they were ranked 5th in the state that week. Probably should have been ranked higher but poll voters were concentrated in Columbus and other areas and I don't think Struthers got the attention they deserved. Upper Arlington was "voted" state champion.
They were the best team I saw in my 4 years of HS football. The Murphys, Pittmans, and Gary Zetts were outstanding. We were losing 40-0 at halftime. Our coach, Dave Beckman went into the Struthers locker room at halftime and was yelling at Bob Cummings not to put in the reserves in the second half. I guess it was a pride thing.
We lost 54-0 if I remember correctly. I don't think I made a single tackle in that game. Pittman kicked my butt. He went on to Iowa State coached by Earl Bruce and was third string All American his senior year. Bruce Murphy played for Pitt and they won the national championship in 1976. I think he was a captain.
Three of the top ten ranked teams in the state that year were from the Mahoning Valley.

About 40 days left til Wilcat football.
Will be here before you know it.
Coming home for Crestview.
Will post updates on a Struthers-Liberty thread.
Really lucky they're broadcasting that one.

I see the cats are sticking with the flat red helmets.... I am partial to the shiny red tops with the black stripe down the middle with the s on each side.
Kuntz is very basic though. That's fine.
The uniforms are some of the nicest in the valley though.

Yes he is . I talked to one of the coaches and he said the kid is a difference maker, he said so far no issues with him . Everything has been yes sir and no sir. Hopefully he keeps that attitude up . He will play offense to , he will play FB on offense.

HE74,
IIRC, it was 54-6. Hubbard scored in the 4th.
Struthers homecoming.
Different breed of football back then.
With the schools being so much bigger then, there was plenty of talent on most SVC teams.
Back then it seemed like the whole town came out for home games.
Teams also traveled real well on the road.
A lot has changed sinced the mills closed.
A lot of community spirit seemed to die with the mills.
Still, nothing like NE Ohio high school football

Yeah not a bad it wil give Richards a break and also keep him fresh on denfense, that's going to be one big FB. I think he is 6'0 250

I highly doubt this idea gets past doubles.
Good in theory.

Agreed. If his attitude is what everyone makes it out to be, don't see this idea working out.

I can see him and Richards in the backfield at the same time at certain points too, possibly in a power formation, even tho Willie is a power back. Maybe a little Maryland I would be cool in spots

I was gonna say something similar.
If that experiment does make it past doubles, I think it'll be situational. Short yardage and goal line packages... with either Mitchell or Richards at tailback.
Maryland I would be interesting. Whittenberger at up back. Richards/Tomko inbetween. And Mitchell/Donnadio at tailback.
They could also run som Full House or Wishbone type stuff.
The offense can be very flexible this year. They'll be fun to watch.

They'll hang their hat on defense, though.
