O.J. Simpson Parole Hearing: Nevada Officials to Decide Fate in Coming Days

Quote:
Next week, four members of the Nevada Board of Parole will convene in Carson City to consider the case of Inmate #1027820. The parole hearing will likely be routine, save for one boldfaced fact: The inmate is O.J. Simpson.

Those parole board commissioners must decide whether one of the most infamous men in the nation, imprisoned nearly a decade ago for a bungled Las Vegas robbery, walks out of prison.

But according to two former chairs of the state parole board, the commissioners will treat O.J. Simpson, who turned 70 last weekend, just like any other potential parolee notorious as he may be.

It is about time he gets out of jail, so he can focus on catching the real killer.

I always thought that this botched robbery was a set up to get OJ for his getting away with a double homocide. I don't know what the other participants in the robbery got for their jail time, but if they got the same sentence as OJ it would blow my theory out of the water.

based on Nevada's point system for patrolling inmates, he's got a bit better than 50% chance of getting freed this week

The hearing will be streaming live on multiple sources, here is a link to the NBC news one: http://www.nbcnews.com/video/watch-l...-1002679875727

Heard a couple lawyers speak about his chances today and they have it as high as a 90% that he walks out today. He has served his minimum time, been an exemplary prisoner, and they need the space in the jail for someone that really needs to be off the streets so he will probably walk and it will be done quickly so it doesn't turn into a dragged out circus. Another thing discussed was his treatment in prison, dude had no problems at all and was treated like royalty. Don't expect to see the typical harden inmate when he walks into the hearing; one thing the guy didn't miss was a meal while inside the pen.

OJ Simpson granted parole

O.J. Simpson will soon be a free man, after spending nearly nine years at Lovelock Correctional Center for armed robbery and other charges.

The former USC football star and Hall of Fame running back appeared before a Nevada parole board on Thursday, who came to a unanimous decision to grant Simpson parole. The earliest Simpson can be released from custody is October.

The prison stint stems from a 2008 incident in Las Vegas, in which Simpson and others attempted to recover personal memorabilia at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino.

Taco MacArthur has a little shameless behaviour in the past
The most shocking part of this was he's been in jail for 9 years. I thought that sh*t happened like 5 years ago.

I don't feel like researching the whole thing but can someone give me a quick run down on the whole robbery of personal memorabilia?

Basically a bunch of collectors had a lot of his stuff, from what I recall the way they obtained it was a bit sketchy. They claimed to own it, he claimed it was still his, and he got a bunch of goons to try to rob them in a hotel room to get it back. The biggest issue is they had guns during the robbery and someone recorded the audio during the whole thing as well.

As others have mentioned, his sentence of 33 years was WAY more harsh than it would have been for anyone else who was convicted of the same crime.

And that is the truth. Be it as it may, you either have to stand up for the justice system, or the entire thing falls apart. For his convicted crime, 9 years is an appropriate amount to serve.

There's a hilarious Norm MacDonald bit about how OJ got acquitted for double murder yet went to prison for stealing what was arguably his own stuff and how guys that steam their own stuff are at the bottom of the prison order subject to ummmmm...certain things a double murderer might be able to avoid as they're at the top of the pecking order.
