One more Yr at the bottom before making a big leap in 2019-2020. The Soph Class is the real deal.

I'd love to go back to the WBC basketball thread to see which class was spoken more highly of for basketball the Senior Class, the Junior Class or the Sophomore Class. It easily would have been Seniors #1, Juniors #2 and distant #3 the Sophomores. Funny how that narrative has changed.

Looks like a solid schedule against teams that will play a variety of styles.

Was there ever a WBC thread? The current Srs had a pretty good Frosh team, but lost some kids through the yrs, most notably Wertz who decided to focus on golf.

EXACTLY!!!

You know what you can't predict in 7th grade...basketball success. This is a DIRECT result of crowning kids in 6th and 7th grade on the westside. None of you will admit it, but this is a problem. Coaches and parents get enamored with the 6th and 7th grade kid who is a year older and is dominating weaker kids in grade school. You know what that doesn't predict...high school success. It's been my platform for 3 years. It's one of the main problems in how this school evaluates talent.

STOP DOING IT!!!!!

And that fact that pboy even asks "was there a WBC thread about this" is pure proof that he's an effin nutjob. He crowned the current senior class, and that's around the time I started posting telling him to slow his role because all of those kids were physically more mature than everyone else and it will catch up to them. He will also deny that.

Focus on the kid that can play that hasn't hit puberty yet. That's the kid that's going to be damn good. Those kids don't have the "name" and are lost in the shuffle.

NONSENSE! Absolute joke of a post.

You put this class on a pedestal from the very beginning. I won't even begin to count the number of posts you predicted state titles in multiple sports for this senior class coming out of grade school.

We all know you're an idiot, but at least be honest.

Can you imagine the melt down if the 2019-2020 Team doesnít make a ďBig LeapĒ? Omar will say more non feeder talent was needed, Sans the current 5th graders are really good though

It would be inexcusable as they’ll probably only win 8-10 games this Yr. Anyway, there’s one big time non Feeder talent that would put them WAY over the top. The odds aren’t in E’s favor, but it’s not impossible. Adding him to the Jr-Frosh class would be the best team Elder’s ever had.

I'm still flaberghasted he asked if there was a WBC thread about this. LOL

Good ole pboy. Part of me wants to be his life mentor.

I'm also very much enjoying the sans sarcasm.

19 days until the first game; does anyone know when they have scheduled scrimmages and where. Sounds like this year is going to be tough. We lost three probable starters. One being our best defensive player. This is the first year in awhile that we don’t have a true scorer.

Have to think with the injuries that we'll be seeing more Sophomores on Varsity this season - probably Keehan, Larkins, Nieman and Walker.

Yeah, they’re going to have to take their lumps this Yr, but this should be building into something better for the future. The GCL is down outside of Moe, so maybe they can get 8-10 wins.

I expect the lineup to look like this, at least for the beginning of the season:
1-Cluxton, Walker
2-Luebbe, Keehan, J.Byrne
3-A. Byrne, Merz, Domenicone
4-Royer, Nieman
5-Holmes, Larkins
*Keep in mind O'Brien, Bittner, Austing, and pretty sure Keyes are inured.

3 starters? Bittner and O'Brien? Did another get hurt as well?

Edit - nevermind, saw the post above.

I’d start Merz at 4, move Royer to 5. Keehan should definitely be the Starting 2, Luebbe is more of a PG.

Is there any chance Keyes or Austing play this Yr?

I would let this team run like crazy. Cluxton and Walker aren't big, but they can make plays for others off the dribble. Royer is athletic, Byrne(s), Luebbe, and Keehan can shoot.

I hope their offensive philosophy is different than the past few years. I don't think it will work with this team. I do like that most of these kids are athletically/offensively minded and not just defensive guys.

Iíd doubt it, but I wouldnít be shocked to see some Frosh on JV. Especially with 2-3 Sophs playing Varsity full time

Everyone hopes the offensive philosophy changes. Probably not to many of us though who think it actually will! Everyone seems to want the kid from Oyler. Does anyone really think he would be interested in the current style of play for Elder Basketball?

I've been watching the basketball team for a long time. It only seems this slow down, focus on defense first, approach has been used for the past 5-10 years. It was never like that before. Even when they didn't have the strongest teams, at least the kids had an offensive mindset.

I (and most everyone else) just don't seem to understand the rationale, especially as basketball is moving in the complete other direction. I wish someone would explain the rationale. I know there are kids that can score, I've seen it for years.

Itís an educated guess: Keehan, Walker, then either Larkins or Nieman.

If heís only interested in style of b-ball, none of the GCL schools would be in his best interest. Even though Moems been extremely successful, they still run a half court, Motion type of Offense. Iíve heard the Oyler kid is probably going to Taft anyway. It sucks, but I guess I can stomach it.

It's not so much the style of offense as it is the focus on defense. They constantly run 2-3 guys out that are defensive specialists. Those type of players are important, but in spot circumstances. The defensive guys seem to be starters and play alot of minutes. Just doesn't seem to make alot of sense for teams that struggle to score.

At least from the list of kids listed, it doesn't seem to be that type of team, which is a good thing, I hope.

I agree with what your saying, just don’t see it happening. Omar, Moeller Plays almost every style well. Think that’s what makes them so good. Moe also seems to be deep about every yr.
