Billy's worth what we pay him now strictly from a defensive standpoint, at least our pitchers would agree.

That's because word is already out that the "best centerfielder" in baseball is a dud with the bat. No one in baseballs values him as much as you do. The time to trade him for maximum value was 2 yrs ago, when the cat wasn't out of the bag yet.

Hamilton is not considered the best CF in baseball by anyone. He very well may be the best defensive CF.

Yeah I was clamoring for them to trade him but I guess he is the best centerfielder in baseball now.

Yeah, seems dumb to trade away the best CF in the game.

Don't tell Mike Trout. He will be disappointed.

And as I've said on here many, many times, for me, your up the middle players, Catcher, short stop, 2nd base and centerfield, it's defense first, then offense.

How are you shocked he isn't on there? I hope the dude goes on to big things but at this point in his career there isn't a chance he is top 15

14red overrates every red. Remember when he was touting Tucker Barnhart as a viable starting MLB catcher, instead of what he actually is-- a mediocre backup.

I hope you don't believe everything you read. This dude blows his credibility putting Joc Pederson on this list. He's had a 1/2 season of good baseball under his belt (of course he plays in LA).
I can only guess this person has no idea who Billy is. Now Billy's not in the top 5 or 10, now this is OVERALL centerfield skills. Billy's in the top 3 defensively, I'll never waiver off that. Many of these guys listed in the top 15 are not even everyday centerfielders. Many play left or right and play a few games in center. This article is just trash...

Would you trade Hamilton for Pederson straight up? Is there anyone out there besides 14red who wouldn't?

Agreed, and Joc is the Dodgers second best young player. Seager is incredible, I'd trade any 10 Reds (except Peraza, Iglesias and Duvall) for Pedersen and Seager. Those guys will be studs for the next 10-12 years.
And look around baseball at all the young studs: Trout, Betts, Harper, Seager, Pedersen, Story, Altuve, Correa, Machado, Lindor, Arenado, Bryant, Rizzo, and many others I can't think of off the top of my head.
Why can't the Reds find a guy like that???

14Red is most likely a Cards or Cubs fan in disguise, who dislikes any potential deal that would make the Reds better
In other news, Scott Feldman may be the opening day starter. Gonna be a fun year man

Bird and I spent years on jjhuddle explaining to you that batting average is almost a useless stat. OBP and OPS measure the value much better.
BA was used back before computers and calculators were invented, and people could easily do the math on BA. Please come into this century with your thinking. See EP's stats above. Not even close.

The guy is literally a pinhead. Pederson is already an above average hitter with legit power and an improving contact/line drive rate...expect him to get a lot better going forward. Hamilton is a leadoff batter who struggles big time to get on base, I hope he gets better, but unfortunately I don't see the same trajectory.

Two weeks from opening day! We'll have a patchwork rotation, but we have alot of young arms so we should be ok for now. One name that's been popping up the last few weeks is Sal Romano, right handed starter. It also appears Robert Stephenson is going to be coming out of the bullpen, at least for now. He could be a 2-3 inning guy out of the pen ever few days. Pretty excited to get this season started!

By "should be ok," do you mean "will have the worst rotation in baseball?"

So Stephenson, apparently one of the Reds top 5 prospects isn't good enough to make a horrendous rotation. Awesome
With that said I'm still excited to watch Reds baseball

Translation - "We have enough arms that we won't need to forfeit. Not sure we will get the opponents out much, but there will be guys with a pulse on the mound."

Reminds me of the days of running out Paul Wilson on Opening Day.

We like to call them "learning opportunities", and yes, there will be plenty of them.
