I don't get the Swenson's thing. It's just not a great burger. It's ok.

Red Robin has great tasting options.

For drive-thru's, though, Sonic is best.

...In-N-Out is a California based chain with restaurants in 6 states and Burgatory is a smaller Western Pa chain. I was at one near Pittsburgh over the weekend and their burgers are incredible along with their milk shakes that you can get with a shot of whatever you want in them or without alcohol.

Then you are missing out. Best cheapo feed-the-whole-car burgers around. Pretty big double cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato and fresh onion for $2. Great onion rings, thicker-than-typical-fast-food fries, OK chicken sandwiches. Used to have a tremendous deal on a chicken strip basket, real whole breast pieces, but they made 'em a little smaller. Still whole chicken pieces.

The old Burger King in Northfield had a very visible kitchen. Front and center was a cooker with a giant, slow, wire mesh conveyor belt, open on the sides. The conveyor went over these giant toaster coils. The burgers went in frozen, thawed as they moved along, and began to drip fat and blood. These juices fell directly on the coils and caught fire, the flames touching the passing burgers. That's how they got the flame for the "flame-broiled" that they advertised. Nasty.

Not sure I'd go without the shakes and fried mushrooms. I'm good for twice a year.

They put a little brown sugar in the burger. Maybe some like that more ?

I usually get a burger somewhere every few weeks. Maybe more in the summer.

I'm guessing this is solely based on the quality of the burger and not cost. I rarely go to 5 guys because there is no hamburger place where - for a burger, fries and drink it's over $10??? Their popularity is solely based on the anti-McDonald's market.
Got a McDouble, small fry, large coke, $3.00. Cannot beat that.

No Whataburgers are in Ohio, it is a southern chain. The Burgers themselves are nothing great but they do have a green chili topping which is good topping for a burger, also not a big ketchup guy but they have a chipolte ketchup that is a nice adult update to a kiddy condiment.

Cannot forget about Big Kahuna Burgers

That's more like $4.50 now and you get considerably less food than what you get for $10 at 5 Guys.

DQ's food is very good for 'fast food'.

Does DQ still use their "Brazier" broiling method to cook its burgers? They dumped the name but that open flame cooking method that gives the burgers a nice Caramelization made it stand out from the comp. The rest of the product stunk and the burgers were so small to maintain the very low menu cost that they were borderline slider size. Their margin is all about dairy products.

Sure you can. You can spend a little more and eat something that's actually fit for human consumption.

Just curious - why would think this is nasty? Haven't you eaten a hamburger cooked on your backyard grill that does the same thing?

Full disclosure: I do like the flavor of BK's burger patties, and I think their fries have a good flavor also.

There is just something about fat+heat being the sole source of fuel for the flames that seems objectionable to me.

A Whopper is good now and then, although it's been a few years. Ever get a double Whopper ? I always found that even though I was still hungry, I'd have a hard time finishing it. The taste gets weird when they cool off a bit.

Of the places to eat by my work you got McDonald's DQ and a Sonic. Never would have thought DQ would have had decent fast food. Their burgers aren't small aren't they are the best of the 3. Was surprised.
