...When you were a kid

...when I was a kid, on Saturday mornings I couldn't wait to start watching cartoons and now there are no networks that air them anymore. Feeling kind of nostalgic, I was thinking back to the ones I use to like....what were yours?

The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Johnny Quest, Bugs Bunny, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Astroboy, and Popeye were a few of mine.

I remember getting up to watch Tarzan (not a cartoon). I was never real big on cartoons, I WOULD OCCASIONALLY WATCH.. Flintstones, Jetsons, George of the Jungle, Gumby (more of a claymation show).

Bugs Bunny/Roadrunner, especially my boy Marvin the Martian
Jonny Quest
Bullwinkle and Friends
I recall a Hot Wheels cartoon, too.

Not a big fan of Tom and Jerry or Tennessee Tuxedo.

...watching Rocky and Bullwinkle, there were a lot of satire that really went over little kids heads but adults caught them right way.

Loony Tunes was king for me on Saturday AM with some classic moments still etched in my memory. What kid from the era didn't get their 1st taste of opera from Bugs Bunny or even a history lesson>

But the real action was weekdays after school when the Three Stooges and Little Rascal shorts would play. This is where I figured out that comedy was mostly about timing>

Oh, wow, does this topic bring back memories.
My favorites? Bugs and Daffy Duck.
Right behind -- Roadrunner
Rocky and Bullwinkle......I liked it better when I was in HS. Yes, as 4cards said, I finally got the satire that went over my head when I was little.
To show that I'm old, I loved Quick Draw McGraw.

Wasn't JQ on at 7:00 at night? I remember it being the only nighttime cartoon, up to that time. Sat. morning, Mighty Mouse, Fury, Roy Rogers, Looney Tunes, Sky King, Clutch Cargo, and Heckle and Jeckle.

My earliest favorites were Supercar and Fireball XL-5, the marionette shows by Gerry Anderson, circa 1963. I had a children's book for each show, and an FXL-5 lunchbox and thermos in first grade that was my pride and joy. I bought a repro lunchbox some years back just to have as a memento.

Others I enjoyed watching:

- The Porky Pig Show - the closing theme in the barn where the kids start crying at the end of the show always made me sad.
- Casper The Friendly Ghost
- Hector Heathcote
- Deputy Dawg and Touche Turtle
- Milton The Monster
- Marine Boy - a Japanese production similar to Speed Racer. I was sure there was such a thing as Oxy-gum you could chew to stay underwater indefinitely
- Beany & Cecil (the animated version)
- The Impossibles - Multi-Man was the coolest
- Spa-a-a-c-e Gho-o-o-o-o-s-t!
- Wacky Races
- Scooby Doo
- The Archies Show

the summer long promos for the next season of new cartoons. I remember those and the anticipation more than the actual cartoons. And false memories. Most of those commercials are in my head in color but we didn't have a color tv probably until I was in my teens. Could be magazine and comic book ads mixing with my tv memories?

LOL - I loved going to visit my relatives in Buffalo NY. Not only did they have five channels compared to Columbus' four, they got watch the above cartoons during weekdays, plus The Three Stooges.

WKBW had great cartoon shows every weekday - Rocketship 7 in the morning, and Commander Tom in the afternoon.

If you've watched David Boreanz in "Bones", his dad was a Buffalo weatherman who hosted Rocketship 7 back in the day.
