My Dad drank Strohs, so that and the beer my next door neighbor made in the basement, were the 1st. In high school, we drank Schlitz Malt Liquor, at 59 cents a quart, more buzz for the buck. As Auggie said, when Miller bought Strohs, it went to swill. Pabst BR was good in the 70's, don't know why it turned to shiest. We had a beer called Norwester, in Oregon, it was a Heffy, very good, very regional. That brewery also had a seasonal wheat called Smith Rock Bock. Like a lot of the Oregon craft breweries, they were bought, pumped full of preservatives and sold nationwide, killing a great product.

Good choices. I have been a mostly pale ale and amber ale guy the past few years. Have been liking Jackie O's Amber Ale most recently

I'm in Cali, where's Jackie O's made and do you know if it is available nationwide?

I'm in Ontario on vacation drinking Carling. It was the best beer available at the idiotic socialist liquor store in town. Pretty embarrassing that it is the highest selling beer in the UK, and #2 is Carlsberg, which is Danish and also sucks.

I'm not an amber ale guy, but Jackie O's is a great brewery. I like the Dark Apparition (Russian Imperial Stout) and Mystic Mama is a good IPA.

Back in the '80s before double IPAs and such Carlsberg Elephant beer was considered sophisticated white boy malt liquor. Stuff is basically a Danish version of Mickey's and I never got the hype.

LIke many, my beer life story starts with what my dad drank, dipped down to cheap beers in HS/college, and has now evolved to a full liking of many mass-produced and micro-brews.
Back in my youth my dad had long phases of buying the same beer repeatedly. Strohs is my early memory, then Miller Lite, then Bud Light.
I went cheap when I was young, Keystone for a while, or Busch.
Then a long phase of mainsteam. MGD was a go-to, or Budweiser, then Killians when feeling glamorous.
Yuengling is favorite now, but I buy all kinds. Wife likes Michelob Ultra. In restaurants, anything on draft, and in travel I buy the local favorite.

One of my best friends just opened a brewery recently, it's called March First. They are small right now, just opened a taproom in the Blue Ash/Montgomery area on Kemper Rd. Give it a shot, they have some good beers.
