been told that the top external candidates interviewed were (in no particular order):

Nathan Chivington (Fairborn Head Coach)
Brett Kopp (Bethel Head Coach)
Kyle Boze (Centerville Varsity Assistant)

They also interviewed the freshman coach, Youker.

Boro has openings in math (Chivington) and intervention (Kopp).

Let's get it all out there, there have been numerous issues the last several years. Frankly, it would be interesting to know the entire story, as only a select few probably do. I couldn't disagree more about an "experienced" coach. The big wiff by the program was missing out on Cupps, who allegedly applied for the last job and wasn't given the offer. Cupps will orchestrate a top-level Centerville program for as long as he chooses to stay. The things I hear that he is doing to get their program in order, all the way down to the Hustle program - will build success for years. Most importantly, the best candidate for the Springboro job has been coaching the Freshman team. For those who don't know, it's Kyle Youker. He is respected by current players, parents, and recent alumni who have watched a circus the last several years. He holds young men accountable on defense and shot selection, doesn't play favorites OR politics - and can flat coach. The young men will even learn a lesson or ten along the way. And as long as Troy Lewis is willing to stay involved, Youker can corroborate basketball strategy with the best mind in the area, along with Troy being there as great role model for the team & program. Surely the AD will make the right decision

Could not agree more, best coach in Springboro the past 10 years. Honest, hard working, high expectations for the kids on and off the court, understands match ups on the court, plays to win each and every game, coaches all of the kids not just a few. Respected by players and parents alike, and does not play daddy ball. Good guy who deserves the shot, he will bring the fresh perspective and accountability this program needs.

Everyone started out somewhere first, Youker is dug in deep and can be counted on to do the right thing.

Can't blame Nathan for getting out of Fairborn considering the crap that happened to his brother and the parade of idiot parents.

Chivington will be in for a treat if he has a bad parent situation already and expects Springboro's folks to be less invasive, misguided, etc.

Unless the administration digs the internal guy, this should be Chivington's job.

Cupps was already @ Centerville
Troy Lewis is a wonderfull coach better person.
Troy Holtrey will be @ Goshen watching Alec play basketbal
Should be offered though.HOF coach - nothing to prove.
Kyle is too smart to take this opprtumity.
Nathan is a quality coach and proven winner.I wish him well as I believe also he has the job.Excellent choice.
Loaded with a good Senior class. Junior class have not proven they can compete and parents are tunnel vision on their kid only.

Bash the coach all you want. Goes with the territory.
As for his son 20 GWOC coaches voted him to the All GWOC CONFERENCE TEAM his Senior year along with Maverick Morgan .
they are the only two Panthers to receive this recognition.Since we have been in the GWOC. He graduated in the Top 10 in all offensive
Career Springboro Panther records.

Holtrey coming back? A friend of a friend says he wants to coach again. How's that for inside info!
+1 Can't see Troy coming back with Alec playing @ Goshen.

Just as critics like you who run your mouth and have never taught or coached in their life. I imagine your fat slob sitting in your underwear and slandering good folks who choose to lead young adults Get your degree and go into coavhing.Surely a guy who can spot phony coaches should be in demand.

Players and Asst. Coaches feelings about the head man are all that truly matter.

In my post I said nothing about the kids offensive skills lacking. He was a good scorer. I was stating that he was not a good defender. The only reason an athletic kid has to be a poor defender is either lack of effort or knowledge, which I believe both of those would be directly related to the head coach that just so happened to be his father. Holweger's teams underperformed.

Thoughts

Holtrey is not a Hall of Fame Coach does not have credentials, would have if left alone to continue coaching.. CHIVINGTON is a nice man and Average Coach with lots of public discipline problems at Fairborn. I imagine a tough place to Coach
Hollwager and Byrne gamed the system during Holtreys problems for their own benefit to coach their kids.
Why don't schools vett their coaches or hire someone to advise them, their choices are often poor.
Too bad what happened to Troy Holtrey they have had no one since Gerald Saunders who could carry his jock.

The only person who stabbed Troy Holtrey in the back was Troy Holtrey. Troy Holtrey sacrificed friends to save his job, selling them out in hopes it wasn't his turn. Troy Holtrey is the one who noted when queried about the lack of booster tax filings that the Boosters did not take in enough money to meet the minimum criteria of $25,000 for IRS filing purposes. This answer was offered while he was AD and trying to get everyone to love the $495 pay to participate fee at the high school. It was also during the time that Tom Harves, Booster Treasurer for 20 years was absconding in my humble opinion with well over a $1,000,000 from the kids funds as no one was watching the watchers. Mr. Harves pled to stealing only $440,000 over the previous 7 years. Amazingly he only stole during the time period that the statute of limitations covered this particular offense not any during the previous 13 years. Troy Holtrey also had a spreadsheet that he used to account for all of the reported transactions for the Boosters and each team participating in fund raising. The Boosters under Mr. Harves, and while Troy Holtrey was AD, collected 10% off all fund raising for each team to supposedly fund other operations. The excel spreadsheet showed Booster monies each year well in excess over the $25,000 amount Troy Holtrey claimed they did not make. This story is too complex, long standing, well documented, and fact filled to put into a paragraph. Brutus se fecit. (Latin)

Any school that lets an AD or other administrator coach is stupid. BUT too many friends, family members and successful coaches get A D jobs that they are unqualified for or the opportunities for conflicts of interest are just too tempting and they fail in a myriad of ways. Examples are endless.

Too bad what happened to Troy Holtrey they have had no one since Gerald Saunders who could carry his jock.
Holweger when offered the job originally when the board decided to go another direction state unequivocally:

"I do not want a job with another person's name attached to it".

Mike took the job a year later, but he wanted nothing to do with getting involved in the aftermath of that storm.

That is when they recruited Jay Byrne to run the team with a well respected Troy Lewis on the bench next to him. Jay was smart enough to let Troy Lewis do his thing and the result was one exciting season.

But Jay only agreed to do this one year because it was Maverick Morgan, Ryan Murray, Jake Pfahl, and Sean Kennedy's senior year. Jon Kyle Byrne played because he was able to feed the 6'10" post, everyone else had problems with consistency in that area. Its not as easy as it appears to do that job. On the downside, Jon Kyle's knees were so bad he could barely move up and down the court. Great free throw shooter, very good passer, but defensively a liability. Why no other teams attacked him while they were on offense is still a mystery to me, but they never did.

Coaching is getting to be a tougher gig every year, Springboro needs a man who is well respected by parents, children, the community, and within the school district. Kyle Youker is the man. He is tough, he is fair, and simply does not tolerate nonsense. I suppose that is why everyone knows where they stand with him and appreciate that idea.

100 % accurate. Kyle would be an excellent choice,
if he wants to move over the 16" from Asst. to Head.
With Coach H the staff remained intact all the way down to the 7th grade.
My take remains Coach Nathan will be named after Coach Kyle turns it down.
Either one of these two coaches is a good one.
Troy Lewis loves the game and I'm sure he will continue.
