I think you are overestimating the amount of players those schools sign from NEO. Last season, Akron had 2 on scholarship and CSU and KSU had 1 each. Of course, there could be more of an emphasis on keeping kids in the area by the new coaches at Akron and CSU.

I think that can change and should change. I understand going out of area for guys but there is plenty of talent in NEO for these schools. I mean can you imagine some of these schools and the fans they will get if they keep a little d1 talent in state. Look at all the d1 talent from the state of Ohio that played in NCAA tourney this year.

Imagine almost all of that staying in state at all the schools, Ohio St, Dayton, Cincy, Xavier, Ohio, Akron, Kent St, CSU, Toledo, BGSU, YSU, Wright St, Miami

High school class of 2012 (I think)...

Nance from Revere not recruited by Akron, Kent, CSU.
Is now on the Lakers.

Walker (6'7 pg from Stow) not recruited by Akron, Kent, CSU.
MVP of Reese's East-West All-Star game final 4 weekend.
Was on Miami Heat summer league team.

Hmmm....

"Walker"
Timing and luck can be everything. There's always some that aren't going to fit or someone's already been recruited into the position and there's no more scholarships. Doesn't mean they're not valued. Brett Lauf, All D2 b-ball and soccer and who put up big numbers against Wauseon and local city league, cranks out 7-8 3's with high percentage ends up at D2 Grand Valley. Hurts for local fans because his brother was a valued player for Toledo and Brett has even more upside, but schollies are an issue. Big man needed and guards already filled. It happens. You just wish them best of luck. It's not a blame game on the Ohio coaches.

Yes, but he's had his own off-the-court problems, too.

Interestingly, Illinois may want Bragg to play the 5 spot if he goes there.

The Illini also need another big player who can man the paint. They would be short-handed if things ended today, but I think they can still snag another big talented player.

Using the third scholarship on transfer Carlton Bragg would be the way to go for me. He is a 6-foot-10, 240-pound big man who could start at the No. 5 spot for the Illini. This would be a cure for the weak paint presence for Illinois in 2018, but they would have to just push through with Leron Black starting this season at the No. 5 spot.
I can't see either Bragg or Black playing center, though.

I saw Black play in high school, and believe it or not, he was on the same team as Florida's Chris Chiozza.

According to this article, Akron and KSU were both interested in McCollum but went with other options. Marshall was a top-50 prospect by Rivals and Scout who was a 2-time MAC Defensive Player of the Year and career blocked shots leader. Holt was a 2-time All-MAC performer and is KSU's career 3-point field goals leader and #10 on its' all-time scoring list.

Akron was very interested in him but had only one scholarship to offer and eventually gave it to Zeke Marshall. Kent State expressed interest, too, but gave a scholarship to Randal Holt. Bowling Green and Miami (Ohio) also recruited McCollum.

Good point. Although CJ was tiny in high school which likely concerned some coaches. He had a crazy growth spurt in college if I recall.

Never saw that coming. Thought he wanted to play closer to home and family. Like always we wish him nothing but the best.

Wow, can't believe he didn't want to play at Akron and have 3 games a year air live on Sports Time Ohio for their 700 home viewers???

Good for Bragg.
