So are the fab 5 transfers underclassmen or seniors? Is LE gonna be a one hit wonder?

LE and their transfers will face off with Wellington and their transfers on Saturday for the state title. Should be good one.

I'm becoming increasingly disturbed that the Lutherans are placing this much importance on athletics. The OHSAA needs to investigate these faith-based schools and how their practices are ruining HS sports.

Agree. You lose your right to be "angry and bitter" when the other team doubles your score. Regardless of how LE assembled their roster, Delphos St. John simply wasn't very good. There has never been a year where this team would have been good enough to win state, even if they played other "traditional" teams.

Wow, what a statement! Blame the team that was beat for not being good enough to keep it close so that they can complain how a small private in a metro area accepted 4 transfers. Please don't attack me saying St Johns is private as well, I know that, but they draw from a village of 4,000, not Cleveland!

I second the notion that transfers are ruining HS sports. He isn't referencing or criticizing the kids. He is criticizing the notion of kids transferring to making a high school team essentially an AAU team.

People question why the crowds are much smaller than they have been at the State Tournament. There are several reasons why they are smaller. The games being on TV, the prices being higher, competing against the NCAA. However, one thing that is definitely a factor is the fact that some of these private schools have "transfers" and there is no connection to these kids. The school can't rally around the kids who have grown up or have been in a feeder school.

Transfers also create the "have" and "have-nots" in HS. It takes the parity out of high school sports. When you have 10,12, 14 teams that have one or two really good players the supporting cast comes into play, and you end up with great games and you end up with teams that have a chance. However, with all these transfers you are putting teams together that have 4 or 5 or 6 really good players (aka an AAU team) and when you play a team that has a "normal" roster (non-AAU team) you end up with games that are extremely lopsided and not very entertaining.

The only defense I will give this "movement" so to speak, is this seems to be the norm. Change sometimes is great and sometimes it sucks. The change that is taking place or has already happened is going to be a good thing or a bad thing. I believe it just depends on who is talking about it. To me, I am a traditionalist. I like teams that grow up together, I like teams that work together, I don't like the AAU teams that are being created. However, it is what it is, and we have to deal with it, like or hate it.

We had 6 transfers this season. Only 4 got significant minutes. See my man Coach Jones at the podium yesterday? Tate on his left, Burge on his right. Both new this year, his two best players.

Motley at 6'8" is a great rim protector. How many schools can boast getting a 6'8" transfer their senior year? He made your tall white boy look weak.

Sanders, don't sell him short. He would start on every D4 team in Ohio.

This thread and this post created by you is dripping with smugness. If thats a word. But in reality probably all 4 teams at Canton regional would have beaten DSJ. Malvern missed a layup at buzzer which would have beaten LE in regional semi-final. If Warren JFK doesn't take 1st half off LE very well could have lost Regional final. Maybe DSJ is not very good. At Columbus you gotta bring your game. LE brought theirs. DSJ left theirs at home. I'm not a Lutheran East apologist but they did what was allowed in the rules. Maybe McDonald will see LE next year in the regionals, you better get some more transfers.

I knew we weren't far from this refrain, the sentimental piece. Neither LeBron nor any of his 4 friends whom he played with came up through Akron's CYO ranks, how was their attendance at the Schott? or CSU? or even the Q (Gund Arena back then)? They drew very well as a result of being stitched together.

LeBron wasn't a transfer. He was at St. V for all four years.

Waiting to see if in the two largest revenue sports, and the 11 titles, how many go to private schools? Football was 6 of 7....Sooner or later I feel separation is coming. Competitive balance is a sham..It will change nothing. As far as DSJ, yeah they did over achieve and this wasn't one of their strongest teams but those kids got to state. Don't disrespect what they did.

people would come out if they watched him come up through the feeder program, I think people came out to see the Irish.

This is a big part of the attendance issue at the State tournament.

Schools like LE, Wellington, Cornerstone, et al; transfers, recruiting, open enrollment, et al, are making a mockery out of high school sports.
