He certainly was a great college player. But for every Baker I can name 10 Dunbar grads who just didn't get it done as college players, or at least not have the careers that were anticipated. On another note, why hasn't Donald Smith been mentioned as one of the 10 greatest players. He is my all time favorite Dayton area high school player, and he had a great career at UD. Without a doubt the best pure shooter to ever play in our area.

Geron graduated....and like I said all tell me how all those guys are not reaching there potential.

I do not understand your comment. You could say that about any school or sport for that matter. Some schools have players go to college and have average / below average careers and some have very good college careers, but never make it long term in the pros or don't even get drafted. Luke is a great high school player and I hope he continues his success in college. If you want to compare Luke to players that already played at college is a bit unfair. After Luke is done playing college, than we can discuss his career to those from other schools that didn't have great careers in college. I am sure Luke will do fine at Duke. Whether he can dominate in college time will tell.

Should take this discussion and run with it. If I remember The Enquirer had A top 50 list for Cincy. It was great! I would like to see DDN put it together Basketball season. It would lead to some great debate.

Gaines, Haris and Furlow from South too. I would think

Also Vince Smith and Kalan Smith, Juwan Norvell, Scott Belue and the Blanton Twins from Trotwood.

Darry Martin and Anthoney Talley, Steve Wright from Colonel White

And probably one of the best player from Dayton many have never heard of except if you were in the city. Juan Gay. Turbulent career but his senior year of HS and one or two years of Jr. College got him to DePaul when DePaul was still good. He was unreal!

I will have a Top 100 Dayton/Miami Valley Top 100 from the last 50 years out in October or November. The Hom/Men list will be extensive

yakyak, Andy McCullough averaged over 30 ppg. his senior year at Meadowdale and was 1st team D-1 all-Ohio.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Sedric Toney. (Or did I miss it?)
His post high school resume is better than most of the people mentioned here. Is he ignored because he played at Wilbur Wright?

Great start, troyboy. Still missing a few...Romain Sato belongs on this list. Maybe some additional Alter players: Andy Meyer, Jack Zimmerman, Waleskowski(s)...

Derrick Brown- Chaminade Julienne/Xavier/NBA
Romain Sato- Dayton Christian/Xavier/Euroleague
Jermone Tillman- Beavercreek/Ohio- Physically a man child in high school

Also I must add... These lists are fun and it makes for a good debate, but Kennard has accomplished and will accomplish much more than most of the people we mention on here IMO. He's the real deal and I don't think many people truly understand how good this kid is.

So true Troy... Not sure why DPS followers will not give him the credit he deserves. Is he an All-time great HIGH SCHOOL player still to hard to say? I think you need to graduate before you can be an All-Time great but for the 3 years he has played not sure anyone has a better resume than he does.

There has been many great players in Ohio's Past. I would include Luke in that conversation. When you start talking about the greatest of all time in the state or area than you have to start looking at who was able to lead their teams to championships. That is were Luke loses steam as well as the league he plays in. Maybe he can get that championship this year and if he does than he definitely deserves to be there in the conversation

Luke was on 700 WLW for an interview last night. The gold medal game would fall on his birthday if the US were to make it.

It takes more than one great player to get out of Dayton D2 Sectional. One of the toughest in Ohio.

Middie85Alum.. I will not completely disagree with that however, I do think people put way to much on championships.. To win a championship you have to have a great TEAM... Very seldom can one person win a championship. Look at the NFL would you rather have Dan Marino, Big Ben, Brad Johnson,Trent Dilfer. 3 of those won chapionships one didnt and pretty sure we all would take Marino out of that group. If you look at most of the guys listed on here they had great talent around them Luke does not.. Dunbar is a factory or great players with great teams which makes every player on that team better.. Middie85Alum here is a name of a grerat player you will know but a lot wont Frank Back..

I understand your point about winning championships, but I have never heard of anyone ever saying Johnson or Dilfer was one of the greatest QBs or even a Top 50 QB. I have heard Marino talked about being one of the greatest QBs, but when the conversation goes to the elite QBs, than his lack of Championships come up. Sometimes there are players that may not have the team firepower to win a championship, but are able take their teams to a regional championship or even put their team on their back and win titles. Marino did get his team to the Super Bowl and is in the Hall of Fame. The only way Johnson or Dilfer gets into the Hall of Fame is if they pay to get in. Luke is definitely one of Top player in the Dayton Area. If you go to the State of Ohio he would need more hardware in my book. If he lights It up in college, than that would probably put a different light on him lacking the hardware.
