How much TV do you watch a week?

Wondering how much TV folks actually watch a week. I know my consumption has gone way down and my wife and kids barely watch any anymore.

Unless it's a live sporting event or a handful of TV shows, that's it.

I don't watch any news or talk shows anymore. Most are so far left or right it's tough to watch.

Very little. Maybe 3-4 hrs a week....I don't even watch much sports unless UC basketball, NBA playoffs (but just a fraction of it) and NFL football.

Either my gauge is off, or these options are horrible. Even 10 hours a week seems like a lot to me... 30 seems impossible.

Almost all of my TV watching now is very "inactive" as I turn it on in the background but am more focused on the internet. I actively watch a couple shows on Netflix. As for over the air/cable, just sports.

I'm also very similar to this. I almost always have the TV on, but very rarely am I watching it except for a few shows and some sporting events.

Not really sure how to answer the poll.

I was thinking the same thing.

We'd probably see more variance if the options were:

a) Zero
b) 1-2
c) 3-5
d) 6-10
e) 11-20
f) 20+

I fall in the 3-5 range most weeks. Extrapolate that out to 6-10 if there is a big sporting event or two (Ohio State football, Super Bowl, NBA Finals, World Series)

Probably in the 3-5 hour range here as well. Throw in half a football game once a week during the fall.

This is basically how I am... I might have a TV like The Office or something on Netflix running in the background, but my face is in my phone as I play games on it.

Descartes is an unknown quantity at this point
Excluding Live sports, less than 10. There's only 3 shows I'm dead set on watching each week: Better Call Saul, Fargo, Silicon Valley.

At first I thought mine was lower, but when I totted it up, probably 25 hours a week. A little news in the morning, my shows in the evening, nothing during the day

Basically I'm just watching:

- local news
- Law & Order (the older ones)
- MASH
- NCIS
- Turner Classic Movies - watched "Cover Girl" (1944) all the way thru for the first time last night. Great stuff.

The wife's got me beat - she alternates between HGTV and Say Yes To The Dress for 30 hours a week just on those shows alone.

I can go weeks without watching tv. I'll watch a show here or there if something if I'm walking by and something my wife is watching looks interesting. On average I'm probably in the 1-2 hour range.

Isn't this question the most likely (or 2nd most likely) to elicit a dishonest response?

Possibly surpassed by, driver who is weaving at 2:30 AM...

Officer: Have you had anything to drink?
Driver: Yes, two beers.

Is TV watching something a person would lie about?

Why?

I figure 20 hours a week is 3 hours a day. 10 hours is less than 1.5 a day. I find it hard to imagine people aren't watching some form of television. Just because it's netflix, or hulu, or some app streaming on your phone or laptop that you're not watching something at some point in a day.

Most of my watching is stuff from DVR I have recorded, some news, sporting events (when home, I probably watching part of all of something almost every day). And if not, Netflix or Amazon Prime finding something.

Outside of the Bengals and NFL playoff games, not really. I'd watch UC football and basketball but they're not really on tv all that often, especially since I didn't have cable for the past 7 or 8 years.

Yeah, we're so accustomed to the TV/computer screen being on that it doesn't register that we're "watching". I don't watch streaming TV, so I'm safe there.

My estimate probably was on the low side.

In addition, I probably estimate I eat less than I actually do.

Wow....

Let see, Hockey playoffs... that is 2 games a night on average... now, I have 2 TV's side by side in my living room so is watching 2 hockey games at the same time count as 6 hours or 3?

I have my shows I watch plus horror movies.... I used to be an outdoors person but health issues keep me in more than I would like to be but I would say easily 30+ hours a week....

Work ethic? I try to curb my wasted time of my own self indulgence down to just a few hours per week. If you look at my new years resolution one I listed was to spend less time on Yappi making these posts. Doing well so far.

I too turn TV on in background when I grab my tablet to check commodity prices and see what's new on Yappi. But to admitt to as much time as I actually spend watching TV would be analogous to admitting a character flaw in my mind.

I would "say" I watch about 2 hours per week but bet it's closer to 10 ( 1/2 hr each morning for news, 1 hour each evening to relax.)

Wasting time is a character flaw, for those carrying the protestant work ethic or some similar conviction of time and purpose.

Everyone has activities they engage in that are not necessarily productive. If you believe the above, why the heck do you post on here?

I don't consider going to the movies or watching a Cavs game at the bar part of this. When I think of "watching tv", I'm thinking of time spent sitting on the couch watching a television series or the news
