Captains to pick teams for NBA All-Star Game after format tweak

Quote:
The NBA All-Star Game is switching formats this season, as two captains will select the teams without regard to which conferences the players play in, the league announced Tuesday.

The players who win the fan vote from each conference will be the captains.

There will still be 12 players selected from each conference for the game in Los Angeles on Feb. 18. Five players from each conference will be selected as starters, with the fan vote being worth 50 percent, player vote worth 25 percent and media vote worth 25 percent. Seven reserves for each team will be picked by each conference's head coaches.

I like it. Lots of potential for drama. If Lebron and Durant are the captains, could have a scenario where Lebron picks Draymond ahead of Love, or Durant picks Westbrook ahead of Curry, etc.

For that very reason it will suck. They will just pick teammates first. But the game always sucks, so who cares.

I haven't watched the NBA All-Star game in years. The other events are interesting but the actual game is brutal. Of the three major sports, it's by far the worst to watch. The NFL is only a notch above. Both should think about getting rid of their games because they aren't even good exhibition games.

MLB is the only one that has a reasonable game that is worth watching.

You have to hand it to the NBA, they aren't afraid to try things, even if they don't work or are silly. From a tradition standpoint, the NBA has the least amount of it. In fact, pro basketball mostly tries to run from it's past.

Few people watch the all star game anyway, so this is more of a publicity stunt than anything else. In fact, we've already talked more about the all star game than we normally do just because of this.

The Pro Bowl is by far the worst imo.

Agreed, NBA ASG is clearly better.

Yeah, there’s no question the NFL Pro Bowl is by far the worst all-star game. Not even close.

I understand why some people make that argument. The NBA all-star game is just an exaggeration of a regular season NBA game. No defense and an offensive exhibition.
