Whenever someone proves his wrong he just ignores and moves on, keeping his head in the sand. (Which happens a lot) no surprise he didn't address your post EP.

He needs to figure out his next topic to troll.

I think it’s hilarious when he doesn’t respond, but he isn’t ignoring it, trust me.

Thoughts on reports of Sonny Gray for possibly Shed Long or Tyler Stephenson?

One of them (preferably Long)? Possibly yes.
Both of them? No way.

Neither of them are lighting up the minors, ecspecially Long. Grays been a solid pitcher over the last five years so why not?

Last place organizations owe their lack of success to, among other things, trading off their top prospects for "solid" free agents whose contracts are up within a year.

I think either one of Stephenson or Long is a steep price.

A top 10 prospect out of a farm as deep as the Reds should be able to get you more than a 1 year rental of a #4 pitcher.

I think I'd shop that offer around the league and see who else might be "available".

Gray "solid"?? He was awesome 2013-2015 for Oakland. 2016 he was terrible. 2017 he bounced back a little but very bad again in 2018 (ERA around 5 and WHIP 1.5). Why take him for a year and give up a high prospect?

The only way it makes much sense to give up that high of a prospect is if the Yanks take Kemp as well and the Reds sign Keuchel.

I don't think that's their plan though.

Sounds like Long and a draft pick for Gray.

Two ways to look at it:
1) Top 10 prospect plus a future draft pick for a 1 year rental off a down year is a huge over pay.

2) A prospect blocked by an All Star and Top prospect plus a future draft pick for a previous All Star with a lifetime 3.66 ERA and 12.9 WAR. Good move for the Reds.

Prospects are exactly that, prospects. Shed Long and a draft pick is not a bad deal for a starting pitcher who has had success at the major league level. For the Reds to contend this year they need to catch lightning in a bottle. I like the deal.

Well ok, you’d rather have Mahle and Romano starting and Long in AA? Last place teams also have lots of inferior talent and do what the Reds have done the last 5-6 years and that a big ole nothing.

I dont think this year should be the goal. The goal should be to make a window for as long as possible. With that said 1 yr rentals in a down year dont help that window.

Sounds like the deal is pretty much done. Just figure out the details like medical exams and such.

The question is, do they stop here or still go after Keuchel or Kluber?

I don't expect them to sign Keuchel and Krall said a Kluber deal is not likely.

My guess is they look to upgrade CF next. AJ Pollock?

I concur that Long seems blocked right now, so the deal isn't terrible. But, taking Gray for just one year means what? The Reds are serious about contending this year? If so they need to do more.

Serious about maybe being a 500 baseball team, I guess.

I think going after Keuchel would be a mistake for the same reasons y’all don’t like the Gray deal. He has steadily declined over the last several years and wants a long term deal. What if the Reds sign him and he continues his downward spiral? Can you say Homer Bailey? On the other hand Gray is only 29 and if he has a good year for the Reds you can try to sign him in season. Would love to have Kluber but pretty sure the asking price is too much.

Plus Keuchel is whining on social media about not being signed yet.

With Gray this team could be an 84 win team. That's not enough to make the playoffs yet but it puts them in the hunt.

I suspect the Reds may add a reliever yet but otherwise will hold money and prospects for trade deadline. If the Reds are in a position to acquire they will be able to. If not, sell off and try again next offseason.

The Reds have very good young nucleus to build around. Just a thought, would anyone else be willing to trade Votto at the trading deadline if the Reds are hovering around .500? He is 36 and his numbers are starting to creep downward, this year might be the time to move him for prospects. I still think the Reds are a couple years away but they seem to be trending in the right direction with the build up of the farm system. Life in a small market allows you a chance every 10-15 years to compete with the big boys, this is the reality of MLB
